WWE DVD Best of Clash of the Champions - matches selected
TheU_2001 replied to BigBadMick's topic in Pro Wrestling
Was this a U.S. Tag Titles match? I'm almost positive that Doom were the World Tag Team Champions at this point. Yes this was for the US Tag Team Titles. -
My singles and tag ballots are both submitted. I was halfway done submitting my singles ballot with match suggestions and everything, but then something happened and it got erased. So I had to start all over again. Needless to say, but after that only the top 20 singles got match suggestions and nobody from the tag teams did, although my tag teams ballot, almost anyone could pick the suggested matches for the teams I voted for. This was a lot of fun. I know others put way more work into this than me, as I am fairly new here. But still, it was a blast, so thanks.

Steamboat for sure. Flair and Shawn were both heels for big parts of their careers. Rey will be up there though, and Misawa/Kobashi too if they count in this category.
-
I agree. Yes he was a great worker. But he won't be in my list because of the above.
-
I'm looking forward to the ballots/results.

I honestly always thought about the Bret Hart quote when El Dandy was brought up, then watched some of his stuff after hearing about him on WTBBP podcasts top 100 matches. He's actually pretty good, and is ranked in my top 100 now.
-
That's probably not the high vote on Hogan.
-
Ok, now I have a better question. So for criteria, is this a best worker list or best overall list? Because there are some wrestlers I would rate above others depending on the type of list being compiled. So I guess my question is what criteria should be applied when compiling my list/ballot?
-
Details on how to vote will come out in March And now I read this...oops.
-
How do I submit a ballot/vote? Sorry if I missed this somewhere.
-
Probably Hogan, maybe Vader.
-
Without a doubt yes.

After listening to the multi-part podcast of the top 100 matches to see before you die (on wwe network), I started watching the list and giving star ratings to the matches. So that's what I've been watching recently.

Kevin Sullivan, Sheamus, Roman Reigns, Evad Sullivan, and I'm sure there's more that I just can't think of at the moment. Oh wait, Big Show too. And the Bushwhackers.

[1996-11-24-WCW-World War III] Rey Misterio Jr vs Ultimo Dragon
TheU_2001 replied to Loss's topic in November 1996
I recently rewatched this match the other day. I feel that it is one of the best PPV openers of all time. Dragon as the J-Crown champion was awesome, and he and Rey make for great opponents. There is a slew of amazing moves done in this match, and Dragon does a great job of dismantling Rey throughout. Rey has a few great comeback spots, and there are a few instances, where you thought he might just pull it out. Dragon's slingshot Powerbomb at the end is amazing, and it gets quite the pop from the crowd. This is just an overall great match, and the J-Crown was an awesome championship(s). Plus I really miss the old Rey and Dragon was always awesome as well, one of my favorites. ****1/2- 18 replies

This Rumble is actually one of my favorite Rumbles. (I also really like 1992 and 1990.) I enjoyed Valentine and Martel both going long. The LOD eliminating the Undertaker was a cool spot. Bret looked good in this Rumble as well. Earthquake proved to be a force, that would be hard to eliminate. Piper and Gorilla are great on commentary in my opinion. And of course, after Slaughter wins the title (apparently not only because of the war, but he was picked by Hogan because Hogan wanted to work with him), there was only one option to win this, and that was the Hulkster. Davey Boy looked good in this Rumble as well, and lasted for a good while. I just wish that Warrior would've dispatched Slaughter earlier in the night, and Hogan vs Warrior II could've headlined Mania VII. (With Hogan getting his win back), although that booking would've eliminated Savage vs Warrior from ever happening, which is Warrior's best ever match. Anyways, it's one of my favorite Rumbles of all time, and I enjoyed it as much the other day watching it as I did the hundred or so times I watched it as a kid. ****

[1990-10-27-NWA-Halloween Havoc] Ric Flair & Arn Anderson vs Doom
TheU_2001 replied to Loss's topic in October 1990
I absolutely love this match. I think that both teams work well together, and this is my favorite match from this show. I wish this had a clean finish, and always wanted to see an ending to this feud, which we never really got. Flair/Arn cheat like crazy to get an advantage over the powerhouse Doom team, and I always have just loved this match. I watched it again today actually. I would've liked to see Doom break away from Long and go face in 1991, instead of splitting up. Lots of great spots in this match, the Arn assisted figure four, the spine buster, shoulderblock off the top, DDT; basically the whole finishing sequence is great. ****1/2 -
This match is a work of art. It's one of the best tag team matches in North American wrestling history, and possibly the world as well. So many great moments, possibly the best mystery partner reveal ever, Steamboat in general, Dustin's work in the match is great, and of course everything about The Enforcers. Arn and Larry were on top of their game for sure. The Enforcers might be the best short-lived tag team in history. I wish they would've been kept together longer. I get the appeal of having Arn and Bobby team up, but Arn and Larry were a better team. I absolutely love this match. It's a work of art for sure. *****

[1993-02-21-WCW-Superbrawl III] Vader vs Sting (Strap)
TheU_2001 replied to Loss's topic in February 1993
I watched this match again about a week ago, and as others have stated, it almost gets better after repeated viewings. This in my opinion was Sting's best rivalry. This match is just brutal from beginning to end. Vader bleeds from the back and the ear (and called Sting out on it on a recent Table for 3 on the Network). This was their second best match in my opinion as well. I would rank their first big three matches as: 1. GAB 2. Super Brawl 3 3. Starrcade 1992. GAB felt very much like Cena vs Lesnar from Summer Slam, and has been one of my favorite matches since my youth. This match was a great stipulation match though. Vicious shots taken and given out by both guys. And the vignettes leading up to it, were also kinda funny. Stinger!!!! Come to my White Castle of Fear!!!!! ****3/4- 23 replies

[1993-02-21-WCW-Superbrawl III] Great Muta vs Barry Windham
TheU_2001 replied to Loss's topic in February 1993
This was a match that I always had high hopes for, as both can be great workers when they want to be. This match though, was not very good. I'd say it's pretty average, as it is worked at a deliberate pace and Windham is just having a hard time trying to get heat. Muta keeps him in a headlock for what seems like half the match. The finish picks up quite a bit, with Muta twice attempting the moonsault, and missing the first time and hitting Windham's knees the second time. Windham then hits the implant DDT and wins the belt. Flair then comes in the ring and straps the belt on Windham, thus foreshadowing their upcoming feud. Flair had just returned from his stint in WWE and was doing commentary for the match, and wasn't good at it for the record. **1/2- 14 replies

For only an eight man Battle Royal, this was ok. Granted many of the competitors were competing in their third match of he night, but I thought it was cool that Muta wins the thing. It was also an ironic twist that he had to eliminate his lethal lottery partner, Barry Windham, to do it. For the end of the night, this was a good way to end the show. ***

I watched this match for the first time in ages the other night, and was blown away at how good Williams looked in this match. Misawa does his usual great job of selling, as Williams is just throwing one bomb after another at him, before finally hitting him with the Backdrop Driver. Misawa also does his amazing job on offense as well, trying to use his speed and cunning to beat Doc and hold onto his titles. The elbows play a key in this match as well, as usual in Misawa matches, and there are points where it looks like Misawa will be successful yet again. Misawa doesn't bust out any of his big moves though like the Tiger Driver '91 or Tiger Suplex, he sticks to his more basic offense of the Tiger Driver, elbows, face lock, and frog splashes. They may work with lesser competition, but not with Williams on this night. Williams is able to hit two backdrop drivers during the match, to put Misawa away and win the Triple Crown. ****1/4
