  1. I love the visual of El Canek in the back brace! Really fun angle with the Vin Man! Dick Slater and his allies look strong heading into the Big Brawl, that's going to be a really fun ten man tag!
  2. Wonder Women of Wrestling – Episode No. LXIII – 9th of February 1987 – Airing Live! – Las Vegas, Nevada Advertised Match: Velvet McIntyre versus Wendi Richter for the WWW Television Championship and the WWW Fighting Spirit Championship and the NWA Texas Women’s Championship We open hot this week but, instead of the traditional television title opener, it’s team tag action with Winona Little Heart and Susan Starr taking of Rhonda Singh and Reggie Bennett. The contest is fast and furious from the very start, with both teams correctly interpreting their opponents as a serious threat. Whilst the faces have the experience advantage and show it off with well-timed tags and double-team moves, the commentators point out that Rhonda Singh and Reggie Bennett appear to have almost entirely overcome their initial problems with miscommunication. The finish sees Winona Little Heart and Susan Starr forced to go high-risk in order to beat the strength advantage of the former Monsters. Their tandem offence ends with both of them snatched out of the air and slammed down. Rhonda Singh & Reggie Bennett defeat Winona Little Heart & Susan Starr in 14:03 when Rhonda Singh pins Winona Little Heart with a side slam A hype package for the main event then plays before we get to the interviews. The Giant Slayers use their interview to talk up the chances of Desiree Petersen beating Luna Vachon in the next match and try not to dwell on their loss. The heels simply declare themselves ready for a world title match, specifically claiming that they’ll snap Heidi Lee Morgan like a twig. A commercial break then takes us to the match between Desiree Petersen and Luna Vachon. The two women are wary of each other and hesitant to take risks in the early goings of the match but once Desiree Petersen demonstrates her technical superiority things heat up, with Desiree Petersen emboldened by her competitive advantage and Luna Vachon driven by desperation to pull off an upset. Eventually, however, Luna Vachon proves simply incapable of stemming the tide. Desiree Petersen defeats Luna Vachon in 09:47 by submission with a Boston crab We then get yet another hype package for the main event before moving on to the interviews. Luna Vachon rants incoherently about the breakup of the Monsters and eventually decides that all of her problems start and end with Medusa Miceli, a woman she promises to get her revenge on. Desiree Petersen revels in her victory and floats the idea that she’s now in line for a title match. A commercial break then brings us through to the main event, a triple title match. Wendi Richter doesn’t milk her entrance this time, however, and pre-empts the bell with a Lou Thesz press. Velvet McIntyre begins the match on the backfoot and stays on the defence throughout. The match features a lot of crowd interactions as the pair battle around the ringside area. We see a signature spot from Wendi Richter as she delivers a powerbomb on the outside at around the halfway mark. It takes all of her strength for Velvet McIntyre to kick out at two and the frustration of her opponent is just about the only serious opening she’s seen all match and she tries with all her might to turn into something. After two near falls, however, Velvet McIntyre is utterly spent. She briefly considers escaping with her title on a count out loss but instead chooses to go down fighting, punching savagely at Wendi Richter’s head as she’s brought up and sent down for a powerbomb. Wendi Richter defeats Velvet McIntyre in 16:55 by pinfall after a powerbomb to win the WWW Television Championship and retain the WWW Fighting Spirit Championship and the NWA Texas Women’s Championship After a brutal match, we end on a shot of the champ, barely able to stand as she spits venom at the crowd. * P.S. I am once again having to apologise for not being around! I got some work on my plate, but I will still try to make more time.
  3. Wonder Women of Wrestling – Episode No. LXII – 2nd of February 1987 – Airing Live! – Las Vegas, Nevada Advertised Match: Wendi Richter & Linda Dallas & Kat LeRoux versus Debbie Combs & Misty Blue Simmes & Babyface Nellie for the WWW Trios Championship This week, we open with a recap of the supercard and a brief hype package for today’s main event, which will be held inside a steel cage. The opening match is the traditional television title contest, with Brittany Brown challenging Velvet McIntyre. In what should’ve been an easy win for Velvet McIntyre, the champion appears distracted and hesitant. The commentators speculate that this is related to her failure to capture the world title as she makes mistake after mistake. In the end, it takes multiple near falls to shake the champ out of it, and she turns the tide with a sequence of moves in the finishing stretch that result in a three count – one that Brittany Brown kicks out of just half a second too late. Velvet McIntyre defeats Brittany Brown in 12:23 by pinfall after a swinging hurricanrana to retain the WWW Television Championship A brief video interlude takes us to the interviews. Brittany Brown is joined by her tag team partner Ashly Kennedy and speaks excitedly, almost as though she had won, about her performance, confidently predicting that she’ll be able to snatch the title on her second attempt. Velvet McIntyre, comparatively, struggles to explain her poor performance and simply claims that she won and “That’s all that matters.” A commercial break then takes us to some tag team action, with Rhonda Singh and Reggie Bennett taking on the Star Girls. The faces begin the match supremely confident, on account of their opponents’ rocky start, but are rudely awakened by the sheer power of the former Monsters. Rockin’ Robin and Jamie West are able to avoid a complete rout through the use of well-timed tandem offence and tactically minded tags in and out but for the majority of the match they are tossed around from pillar to post and battered mercilessly. In the end, Rockin’ Robin is unable to recover from having Rhonda Singh’s body weight dropped on top of her. Rhonda Singh & Reggie Bennett defeat Rockin’ Robin & Jamie West in 14:51 when Rhonda Singh pins Rockin’ Robin after a splash Predictably, Rhonda Singh and Reggie Bennett do not head back after their victory, and simply continue their assault, dragging Jamie West into the ring and brutalising both women until a horde of staff members and babyfaces can come to their rescue. They burn through their interview time, and we go straight from a sponsored video to a traditional commercial break. We return to find the cage already erected and the six women in the main event raring to go at each other. Before the bell even sounds, the match has already descended into pure anarchy. Every single woman in the match has something to prove and the best way to prove it is beat their opposition to a bloody pulp. For most of the match, the fighting is back-and-forth, chaotic but fairly even. Eventually, however, Wendi Richter produces a difference maker – a pair of brass knuckles hidden in her spandex. She then goes to town on all three of her opponents, which is when blood begins to enter the picture – no gushing torrents, of course, but red stains on hands, hair and faces and various parts of the mat. Debbie Combs manages to knock the foreign object out of the ring at one point but by that time, she and her fellow babyfaces have begun to show serious signs of fatigue. All it takes after that is a handful of powerbombs, the final one being on Babyface Nellie, elevated and assisted by the Nasty Girls for maximum impact. Wendi Richter & Linda Dallas & Kat LeRoux defeat Debbie Combs & Misty Blue Simmes & Babyface Nellie in 17:44 when Wendi Richter pins Babyface Nellie after a powerbomb to retain the WWW Trios Championship With no time to spare, we simply end on a shot of the immediate aftermath of the match’s bloody carnage. * P.S. Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I've been snowed under once again. Hopefully, I'll be back to my regular schedule tomorrow.
  4. Wonder Women Wrestling JANUARY SUPERCARD 1987 Live from: Las Vegas, Nevada We begin with a lightshow and fast-paced rundown of the card, specifically the one round tournament to determine who Debbie Combs will have to face in the main event; a four-woman battle royal. The opening match is the first match of the tournament, and it starts shortly after, with Velvet McIntyre facing Leilani Kai. Each woman knows that they need to balance securing a victory here with conserving enough strength for the main event, so the result is a highly tactical bout with a lot of hesitation followed by bursts of activity. Whilst each wrestler gets some time to shine and a chance to show of their signature move, Velvet McIntyre remains firmly in control for most of the match. Only a pin with her feet on the ropes comes close to getting Leilani Kai the win but the television champion powers out of it. Velvet McIntyre defeats Leilani Kai in 14:55 by pinfall after a swinging hurricanrana to secure a spot in the main event A brief sponsored video then brings us through to the first set of interviews. Leilani Kai has her stable surround her and massage her ego with tall tales of a biased referee, refusing to answer any questions from the interviewer that she doesn’t like the sound of. Velvet McIntyre struggles to hide her giddy anticipation in her interview and she promises to win in the main event. We then move on to the second tournament match – which doubles as a title match of its own – as Wendi Richter attempts to defend her newly won championships from Medusa Miceli. In stark contrast to the previous match, this one is intense and violent from start to finish. It becomes apparent very early on that Medusa Miceli is paying no mind to the main event and simply wishes to brutalise Wendi Richter here and now. At various points, the match resembles a barroom brawl and both women do things that would get them disqualified in any other context. Here, however, the referee is reluctant to let an important match like this end cheaply. The finish showcases the veteran instincts of Wendi Richter. Medusa Miceli manages to get her up for a German suplex but fails to bridge. When she goes for a lateral press, however, Wendi Richter has already rolled out of danger and onto the ringside floor. When Medusa Miceli is between the rooms, in a vulnerable position, the champ strikes and pulls her violently to the ground, before delivering two powerbombs in quick succession. The challenger is then dragged into the ring for a pin. Wendi Richter defeats Medusa Miceli in 21:03 by pinfall after a powerbomb to retain the WWW Fighting Spirit Championship and the NWA Texas Women’s Championship and secure a spot in the main event Another sponsored video then serves as a transition to the interviews. Medusa Miceli is initially beaten and despondent but cheered up by the arrival of Velvet McIntyre who consoles her. Wendi Richter is extremely irritable and promises to brutalise her opponents in the main event. We are then taken to the final tournament match, as Lisa Moretti takes on Rhonda Singh. The contest is very traditional, as Rhonda Singh delivers big moves and strong strikes but is just as often outpaced and outwrestled. Lisa Moretti employs her new defensive style to great effect and enrages her opponent with a seemingly endless array of escapes and reversals. Reggie Bennett does a lot of work at ringside but it’s not enough to secure her partner the victory. The finish sees Rhonda Singh run at her opponent, only to have her momentum used against when Lisa Moretti manages to transform the sequence into a powerslam. Lisa Moretti defeats Rhonda Singh in 13:47 by pinfall after a powerslam to secure a spot in the main event Predictably, Rhonda Singh and Reggie Bennett are not willing to let things go and immediately begin attacking the victor. Wendi Richter sees a perfect opportunity and storms down to the ring, only to be blindsided by the cavalry – in the form of Velvet McIntyre, Medusa Miceli and Debbie Combs – and knocked down. Eventually half the roster is filling up the ring and involved in a massive chaotic brawl. A few music videos are then played for the at-home audience whilst staff get things under control. After that we’re finally able to move on to the next match, with the Nasty Girls facing a challenge from Misty Blue Simmes and Heidi Lee Morgan. From the outset the match is competitive back-and-forth with a familiar narrative, namely that the heels are a better overall unit, but Misty Blue Simmes is the better individual competitor. We get near falls galore in the finishing stretch, making it obvious that this is anyone’s game. In the end, it seems to be a matter of Misty Blue Simmes being in the right place at the right time as she’s able to dodge a spear from Linda Dallas that instead connects with Kat LeRoux and sends her to tumbling to the floor. Without a moment’s hesitation, Misty Blue Simmes capitalises. Misty Blue Simmes & Heidi Lee Morgan defeat Linda Dallas & Kat LeRoux in 19:45 when Misty Blue Simmes pins Linda Dallas after a belly-to-back suplex to win the NWA World Women’s Tag Team Championship A hype package for the main event then plays before we get to the interviews. The Nasty Girls immediately demand a rematch and refuse to answer any questions. The faces, for their part, are over-the-moon and giddily sprint through the interviewer’s questions. We then head to the main event. Each woman gets an entrance but the small amount of pyro on hand is reserved for Debbie Combs, who comes out last. With a small number of participants, the normal strategy of a battle royal doesn’t really apply, and the match starts off as a free-for-all brawl. Lisa Moretti and Wendi Richter do display a particularly strong animus, however. We get big moves from each woman, including what would otherwise be match-enders, long before even the first person has been eliminated. Indeed, we reach the twenty-minute mark before Debbie Combs is thrown up and over by an extremely brief three-way alliance that breaks down just as soon as it’s formed. With the champ out, the match is thrown wide open. Velvet McIntyre becomes overconfident, however, and flies at Wendi Richter, who holds the top rope down and lets her collide violently with the floor. The rest of the match then plays out traditionally, with Lisa Moretti and Wendi Richter both desperate to hurt each other as much as to win. The finish comes with both of them tied up in the ropes and at risk of toppling over. In the confusing tangle of limbs, it’s Lisa Moretti who manages to extricate herself and give Wendi Richter a nudge over the top. Lisa Moretti defeats Debbie Combs and Velvet McIntyre and Wendi Richter in 32:01 in an over-the-top-rope battle royal to win the NWA World Women’s Championship We end on a shot of the victor on the verge of tears as she’s handed her title.
  5. I love the visual of Larry Zbyszko and Al Perez scoping out their competition. Tommy Rich is irrepressible and a real piece of work. I don't like Buzz Sawyer's chances but I'm ready to be surprised! Big Brawl looks like such a great card!
  6. Dusty Rhodes and the Road Warriors versus the Four Horsemen! What an amazing main event! The Russians have been doing a lot of damage in the background. Randy Savage fits in so well here!
  7. Pacific has such a great roster! It's great to see Texas Red building momentum! I see the Playboy Club is growing but I'm not afraid for Barry Windham, not yet! It's cool to see Ronnie Garvin back. Time will tell how well he can keep the Crazy Gang at bay!
  8. Wonder Women of Wrestling – Episode No. LXI – 26th of January 1987 – Airing Live! – Las Vegas, Nevada Advertised Match: Misty Blue Simmes & Heidi Lee Morgan versus Rhonda Singh & Reggie Bennett We kick things off this week with a recap of the previous episode’s main event. In addition to that, the commentators talk up Lisa Moretti’s return to in-ring action tonight before we move on to the traditional television title match. Velvet McIntyre has to face a challenge from Penny Mitchell, a woman who wastes no time before getting nasty and dirty. With Candi Devine at ringside to help her, the challenger pulls out every trick and shortcut she can think of, whilst making sure she inflicts as much pain as possible. The result is an ordeal for the champion as she fights through the pain and overcomes her opponent’s endless cheating in order to come out on top. Velvet McIntyre defeats Penny Mitchell in 12:02 by pinfall after a swinging hurricanrana to retain the WWW Television Championship A brief video package – focusing on Lisa Moretti, her feud with Wendi Richter and her return to the ring tonight – plays before we get to the interviews. Penny Mitchell is apoplectic, frustrated as much with herself as with her opponent. She vows to inflict suffering on the next woman who gets in her way. Velvet McIntyre reiterates her call for a world title shot and makes it obvious that she’s worried the return of Lisa Moretti might push her down the line. A commercial break then takes us through to the match the commentators have been waiting for, as Lisa Moretti takes on Lady Apache. Whilst the match is clearly designed to ease Lisa Moretti in, Lady Apache gives it her all, driven by the prospect of beating a former world champion. Lisa Moretti, for her part, remains respectful throughout the match, leading to a clean and technical contest. In the early goings, Lisa Moretti shows some hesitation and works a mainly defensive style, giving Lady Apache the edge. Once things start to heat up, however, Lisa Moretti becomes more and more confident, eventually forcing Lady Apache onto the backfoot. The finish comes when Lady Apache goes high risk but gets caught as she flies towards her opponent. Lisa Moretti defeats Lady Apache in 11:31 by pinfall after a powerslam After the match the two women shake hands. The somewhat jovial mood is darkened, however, when Wendi Richter storms down to the ring. Staff swarm inside in anticipation as the two former world champions stare each other down. Wendi Richter is the first to blink, jumping into the crowd of staff members for a chance to get a hit on Lisa Moretti. The chaos burns through the interview time, and we cut to commercials. We then come to the main event. Both teams are itching to get start. They don’t wait for the bell and, instead, clash in a two-on-two brawl inside and outside of the ring, until they’re coaxed back into order by staff. Each woman is given time to shine, and the two teams share half a dozen near falls. Rhonda Singh and Reggie Bennett prove to be stronger as a unit, but Misty Blue Simmes has the edge as an individual competitor. Predictably then, the finish comes down to whether or not Heidi Lee Morgan can extricate herself from danger and tag her partner in. This time, she manages to do so, and Rhonda Singh gets a chop block and a diving splash for her trouble. Misty Blue Simmes & Heidi Lee Morgan defeat Rhonda Singh & Reggie Bennett in 16:42 when Misty Blue Simmes pins Rhonda Singh after a diving splash The bell rings to signal the victory but the fighting continues unabated, as the heels refuse to accept defeat. We fade to black on scenes of an uncontrollable brawl.
  9. Keiichi Yamada is great opener! A video package like that is a great way to build anticipation for a guy like Stan Hansen. I can't wait to see what he accomplishes here!
  10. Big Brawl sounds like an amazing card. The Caribbean Death Match could draw from the stipulation alone! I love Larry Zbyszko and Al Perez as a unit, and their match against Lightning Strike should be a lot of fun!
  11. A bunch of great matches here! I'm looking forward to see what Cactus Jack gets up to. The Midnight Express are always going to pull off a killer main event, especially with great opponents like these. I loved the chaotic finish, and look forward to seeing how Severn, Jarrett and Pillman can follow this up!
  12. A solid introduction for John Tenta! I'm solidly behind the Rainbow Warriors, I hope they get a chance to shine. Konnan and Curt Hennig are a great get for the Brigade - they're such a cool babyface stable! That was a fun return for Texas Red! I'm really looking forward to seeing his development going forward!
  13. Austin Idol and Buddy Landel make for a really fun heel duo. I'm sure the Rockers have a great year ahead of them here! A chaotic multi-man main event is a great way to end a debut show! I hope Harley Race gets an opportunity for revenge some time soon!
  14. Wonder Women of Wrestling – Episode No. LX – 19th of January 1987 – Airing Live! – Las Vegas, Nevada Advertised Match: Medusa Miceli versus Wendi Richter for the WWW Fighting Spirit Championship and the NWA Texas Women’s Championship Once again, we open hot with the television championship match, as Velvet McIntyre takes on Rhonda Singh. Knowing full well what kind of challenge awaits her this week, Velvet McIntyre has brought Medusa Miceli down with her to act as a check on Reggie Bennett at ringside. Within minutes, the two participants have brutalised each other and appear sweaty and exhausted. At one point, the champ manages to roll out of the way of a match-ending splash but, more impressively, the challenger weathers a swinging hurricanrana and kicks out at two. Sensing that she has no other option, Velvet McIntyre decides to go high-risk and catch Rhonda Singh with a flying crossbody. In the end, she manages to hit her perfectly just as she turns around. Velvet McIntyre defeats Rhonda Singh in 14:55 by pinfall after a diving crossbody to retain the WWW Television Championship The champ invites Medusa Miceli into the ring to celebrate with her but, just as they raise their arms, assaulted from behind by an incensed Rhonda Singh and her partner. Blindsided, they struggle to fight back, especially the thoroughly exhausted Velvet McIntyre, and are only eventually saved by the intervention of staff. With our interview tie interrupted we cut to a brief sponsored video that transitions directly into a commercial break. Afterwards, we get to some tag team action, with the newly minted team of Misty Blue Simmes and Heidi Lee Morgan taking on the Glamour Girls – officially just Leilani Kai and Judy Martin but, in reality, they have to deal with Despina Montagas and Liz Chase almost as much. The match follows a traditional formula, with Heidi Lee Morgan as the face-in-peril, allowing Misty Blue Simmes to get considerable shine when she clears house. The match is very tough for the faces, but fortune is on their side as Liz Chase misses her cue and fails to get the referee’s attention in time to save Judy Martin from a pin. Misty Blue Simmes & Heidi Lee Morgan defeat Leilani Kai & Judy Martin in 12:38 when Misty Blue Simmes pins Judy Martin after a diving splash A hype package for the main event then plays before we head to the interviews. The Glamour Girls are their usual shouty and stompy selves, issuing threats and challenges before consoling themselves with the belief that Misty Blue Simmes and Heidi Lee Morgan will be crushed by Rhonda Singh and Reggie Bennett next week. For her part, Misty Blue Simmes claims she’ll be a tag team champion by the end of the month. A second commercial break then takes us through to the main event. Medusa Miceli is still hurting from her altercation with Rhonda Singh and Reggie Bennett earlier in the night and Wendi Richter can sense it like blood in the water, attacking her on the entrance ramp, dragging her into the ring and refusing to let up. By the time the champion has extricated herself from the assault she’s a limping and bruised mess. For the rest of the match, she has to rely entirely on her wits, in order to doge or reverse all of her opponent’s offence. This strategy works initially but eventually causes Wendi Richter to become enraged. Medusa Miceli eats a powerbomb on the outside and only manages to kick out of the pin attempt at the last second, primarily saved simply by the time it took for the challenger to drag her inside. With nothing else left in the tank, Medusa Miceli pulls out a desperation move and gets Wendi Richter in a small challenge. It comes very close to finishing the match but, at the last possible moment, the challenger is able to roll her onto her back and force her to break it off. Medusa Miceli eventually falls, exhausted, to her knees in front of Wendi Richter, unwittingly putting herself in the perfect position for the challenger’s signature move. Wendi Richter defeats Medusa Miceli in 17:01 by pinfall after a powerbomb to win the WWW Fighting Spirit Championship and the NWA Texas Women’s Championship With no time to spare we end on a shot of Wendi Richter holding her new titles up to a chorus of boos. * P.S. I should be able to get back to commenting regularly from now on. Sorry again!
  15. Wonder Women of Wrestling – Episode No. LIX – 12th of January 1987 – Airing Live! – Las Vegas, Nevada Advertised Match: Wendi Richter versus Babyface Nellie This week we get straight into the action with the television title match as Velvet McIntyre takes on Reggie Bennett. With Rhonda Singh in her corner, yelling advice and instructions and occasionally getting personally involved, Reggie Bennett presents a serious challenge to the champ, capitalising on her strength advantage with a serious of big moves. Velvet McIntyre is more than capable of adapting to this style, however, and focuses clever escapes and reversals, culminating in an effective transformation of a powerbomb attempt by her opponent into her own signature move. Velvet McIntyre defeats Reggie Bennett in 14:15 by pinfall after a swinging hurricanrana to retain the WWW Television Championship A brief video interlude then takes us to the interviews. Reggie Bennett and Rhonda Singh share their interview time, choosing to unsubtly ignore the specifics of the match and focus on what they promise will be a dominant tag team run. Velvet McIntyre simply reiterates her calls to be given another shot at the world title. A commercial break then takes us through to some tag team action and a debut, with Heidi Lee Morgan teaming up with Misty Blue Simmes to take on Brittany Brown and Ashly Kennedy. The match is laid out very simply. Misty Blue Simmes starts things off softening up her opponents with relentless offence, allowing Heidi Lee Morgan to tag in and get a brief showcase and shine sequence before eventually struggling to compete with a regrouped set of opponents. When it looks like the newcomer might lose, however, Misty Blue Simmes comes to the rescue and finishes what she started. Misty Blue Simmes & Heidi Lee Morgan defeat Brittany Brown & Ashly Kennedy in 13:02 when Misty Blue Simmes pins Brittany Brown after a diving splash A hype video is then played for the main event – yet again playing up the unhinged behaviour of Wendi Richter – before we get to the interview. The heels struggle to explain away their loss but eventually settle for issue threats of revenge towards Heidi Lee Morgan. The faces are all smiles and promise the viewers that they have big things ahead of them. A second commercial break then brings us to the main event. The match is a hellacious battle from bell to bell. Wendi Richter wants to send a message, and Babyface Nellie came prepared to return it to her. They wail on each other until they’re bruised and exhausted, at which point they transition into a brutal race to the finish, each one going for big moves whenever they get the chance. Eventually, Wendi Richter goes to the well, tricking her opponent into leaving the ring and then planting her to the ground with a sickening powerbomb. In the end, she’s able to roll herself into the ring, breathless and bloody, just in time to beat the ten count. Wendi Richter defeats Babyface Nellie in 15:49 by count out We end on a shot of a teary-eyed Babyface Nellie being helped to the back as Wendi Richter triumphantly taunts the crowd in the background. * P.S. Once again, sincere apologies for my week long absence!
  16. Wonder Women of Wrestling – Episode No. LVIII – 5th of January 1987 – Airing Live! – Las Vegas, Nevada Advertised Match: Wendi Richter & Linda Dallas & Kat LeRoux versus Debbie Combs & Misty Blue Simmes & Babyface Nellie for the WWW Trios Championship This week, we kick things off with a promotional video hyping up the year to come, promising the debut of two new wrestlers this week and more later. We then head to the television title match and the first of the two debuts, as Malia Hosaka challenges Velvet McIntyre. The match is very even to begin with, as the challenger puts her all into making her debut a success and the champion, by contrast, appears over buoyed by the confidence gained from successfully carrying her title into the new year. We get a good technical showcase for the two women, as a result, and a few high spots to please the audience. Eventually, as the match wears on, Velvet McIntyre begins to ground herself and regain a definitive advantage, causing Malia Hosaka to resort to increasingly dirtier tactics. The cheater doesn’t prosper here, however, as the champ continuously widens the performance gap between the two before heading into her familiar finishing sequence. Velvet McIntyre defeats Malia Hosaka in 14:21 by pinfall after a swinging hurricanrana to retain the WWW Television Championship A sponsored video interlude then gets us through to the interviews. Malia Hosaka tries to make a good impression with her first interview, though her haughtiness is difficult to mask, promising to be back for the title in the not-too-distant future with a better game plan. Velvet McIntyre celebrates her victory but declares that she feels entitled to a world title shot, after having made good on her promise to carry the title into 1987. A commercial break then takes us to the next match, and the next debut, as Princess Delta Dawn challengers for the dual titles of Medusa Miceli. The champ is by now used to dealing with larger women so, after the first few minutes of explosive offence from her opponent, she adapts to her style and proceeds to work a slow methodical strategy of undermining and disabling the challenger’s legs before getting ambitious towards the end, with an impressive show of strength. Medusa Miceli defeats Princess Delta Dawn in 12:01 by pinfall after a German suplex to retain the WWW Fighting Spirit Championship and the NWA Texas Women’s Championship A music video hyping up the feud between Wendi Richter and Debbie Combs – and by extension tonight’s main event – then plays before we head to the interviews. In stark contrast to the night’s other debutant, Princess Delta Dawn does not gracefully accept defeat and screams at the interviewer incoherently before knocking the table over and stalking off. Medusa Miceli gives a subdued interview, commenting on various goings-on throughout the roster and backing up the desire of Velvet McIntyre to see a world title shot. The second commercial break then takes us to the main event. From bell to bell, and even beyond, the match is a chaotic mess, with Wendi Richter and Debbie Combs getting very violent and the other women contributing to the never-ending carnage with fights on the outside and regular violations of the tag team rules. Though it looks like the faces might eventually steal away the titles, Wendi Richter decides to render this impossible once her temper gets the better of her as she picks up a steel chair and goes to town on Debbie Combs. Debbie Combs & Misty Blue Simmes & Babyface Nellie defeat Wendi Richter & Linda Dallas & Kat LeRoux in 15:37 by disqualification but the WWW Trios Championship does not change hands We end on these chaotic scenes as the six women brawl and staff rush into the ring.
  17. Pacific has such a cool roster of talent! I'm desperate to see Bret Hart get another chance at beating Barry Windham one-on-one! Brian Pillman versus Eddie Guerrero is a great midcard match, and I hope a win can give Brian Pillman the momentum and confidence he needs to get some gold! The Midnight Express are always fun, seeing them up against British Steel would've been a real treat. They've found an equaliser for Big Bubba Rogers, unfortunately that's still not a guaranteed win against a team as good as them.
  18. Scarlet-Left

    UWF

This show was great, culminating in a fun multi-man brawl! I like this gimmick with Kevin Sullivan as the devil in Vader's ear. Will he give in or eventually grow tired of this pest? I'm very much looking forward to "the massacre of the century"!
  19. What an amazing card! Tommy Rich pulling one over on Jerry Lawler was a great shocker and should net him a tremendous amount of heat. That main event was perfect! Curt Hennig is exactly the right opponent for Ricky Steamboat and the finish was solid!
  20. Wonder Women of Wrestling – Episode No. LVII – 29th of December 1986 – Airing Live! – Las Vegas, Nevada Advertised Match: Velvet McIntyre versus Misty Blue Simmes for the WWW Television Championship We start the programme off with a recap of the supercard – focusing heavily on the main event and the actions of Lisa Moretti – and post-event clip of Wendi Richter hassling Pat Patterson and other staff members, demanding that the decision be reversed, and her title be returned to her. We then transition to our opener, a tag team bout between Rhonda Singh and Reggie Bennett, and Desiree Petersen and Selina Majors. The contest is a fun traditional back-and-forth with each woman given some time to shine. As things wear on, however, it becomes increasingly clear that the heels have decisive power advantage and only a few fleeting examples of miscommunication give the Giant Slayers any breathing room at all. Rhonda Singh & Reggie Bennett defeat Desiree Petersen & Selina Majors in 10:02 when Rhonda Singh pins Selina Majors after a splash A generic promotional music video – hyping up “the Stars of 1987” – plays before we get to the interviews. The faces are joined by their stablemates and complain about the sheer physical strength of their opponents, Selina Majors in particular is breathless and hugging her ribs to sell the splash. Rhonda Singh and Reggie Bennett use their interview time to denounce the Monsters as a concept, pledging to focus on building a more in-sync deadly duo composed of themselves alone. A commercial break then takes us to an interesting matchup, with Lady Apache getting an opportunity to pull off a coup against the former world champion, Wendi Richter. Wendi Richter wastes no time before going to work on her opponent, pushing her into each corner in turn and abusing the referee’s five count. Lady Apache is shown no mercy, but openings still present themselves, whenever her opponent argues with the official or becomes distracted by jeering from the crowd, and she seizes each and every one of them. By the halfway mark, both women are bruised but it’s Wendi Richter who has the wherewithal to fight through the pain. Lady Apache knows only a high-risk move could possibly net her the win, so launches from the top rope, only to be evaded and come crashing harshly to the canvas. From there, she’s easy pickings. Wendi Richter defeats Lady Apache in 12:45 by pinfall after a powerbomb The violence doesn’t stop there, however, as an incensed Wendi Richter decides she’s not finished and brutalises Lady Apache, as staff scramble into the ring – a few of them are given a thumping for there trouble as the chaos eats through the interview time. Eventually, Vicky Carranza comes rushing to the ring to help her partner, at which point the victor finally relents and heads to the back. We get a brief promotional video hyping up the main event before we cut to commercials. Both women are determined to win. Velvet McIntyre needs to make good on her promise to carry her title into the new year and Misty Blue Simmes needs to prove she can still pull off a win when the stakes are high. Things are respectful to start, but the mutual good will very quickly evaporates as their technical abilities prove to be a match for one another. We get a good showcase for each wrestler’s move set, and a near-fall each before the finish. In the end, it comes down to guts and sheer passion, as they become audibly frustrated with each other and with themselves. Velvet McIntyre defeats Misty Blue Simmes in 15:11 by pinfall after a swinging hurricanrana to retain the WWW Television Championship It takes a while for them to get over themselves but eventually the two women manage to shake hands and we end the programme on a shot of Misty Blue Simmes holding up a teary-eyed Velvet McIntyre’s hand.

The a magazine is a great way to get us prepared for the landscape of 1987! I, for one, definitely want to see Vader gain a "killer instinct".
  22. Amazing wall-to-wall action at Christmas Chaos! Great multi-man fun, with a battle royal followed by an six-man tag! The Road Warriors versus the Minnesota Wrecking Crew! That's just a great match-up! JJ Dillon taking the Doomsday Device is a good way to cheer the crowd up after the Road Warriors were screwed out of the title! Drama in the Russian camp! Randy Savage is going to make an amazing US champ! As much as I'd have loved to see Harley Race take the title, Tully Blanchard winning is good bookend, with Ric Flair winning the opener. The Horsemen are riding high!
  23. Wonder Women Wrestling DECEMBER SUPERCARD 1986 Live from: Las Vegas, Nevada We kick this programme off with a light show as the cameras tour a Christmas-themed set. The ring ropes are red, white and green and the canvas, still plastered with sponsors’ logos, has been made to sparkle with glitter. The commentators run down the card during our opening match, a tag team bout between the teams of Winona Little Heart and Susan Starr, and Brittany Brown and Ashly Kennedy. Each woman has added a Christmas-themed touch to their outfits, and we start with a fairly traditional match. The faces have to shake of their lack of confidence from recent losses, whereas the heels have to work up enough self-belief to mount a successful challenge. Both teams get some time to shine but as the match wears on, it becomes increasingly clear that the Giant Slayers are much better team. Winona Little Heart & Susan Starr defeat Brittany Brown & Ashly Kennedy in 13:21 when Winona Little Heart pins Brittany Brown with a victory roll A music video hyping up the main event – Wendi Richter versus Debbie Combs – plays before we get to the interviews. The heels blow off the result as a fluke and promise that 1987 will be their year. Winona Little Heart and Susan Starr are joined by their stablemates and chat giddily about their victory and proclaim it a sign of things to come. The next match is a four woman battle royal, designed to settle any scores that may remain after the implosion of the Monsters. The contest is nasty from the start, with Rhonda Singh especially determined to assert her dominance over the others. Mad Maxine remains relatively passive, by contrast, preferring to play the immovable object throughout the match. Luna Vachon and Reggie Bennett initially try to team up but when there attempt to oust Rhonda Singh is foiled, they change tack. Luna Vachon slips into the role of helper for Rhonda Singh, helping her eliminate Reggie Bennett and then take the fight to Mad Maxine, who gives her a hard chop on the head for her trouble. Rhonda Singh eventually takes Mad Maxine out with a clothesline – though it takes three separate attempts – and turns her sights on Luna Vachon. The two go on to have a relatively ordinary match, but Rhonda Singh remains firmly in control after a massive running powerslam. The finish involves Rhonda Singh running at Luna Vachon, to eliminate her with clothesline. Luna Vachon pulls down the top rope, in an attempt to send her opponent flying out of the ring. Reggie Bennett, at ringside, notices this, however, and uses all her strength to push Rhonda Singh back into the ring. A distracted Luna Vachon then falls prey to a full nelson, which Rhonda Singh holds for an uncomfortable length of time before dumping her out. Rhonda Singh defeats Reggie Bennett & Mad Maxine & Luna Vachon in 16:06 in an over-the-top-rope battle royal A sponsored video then takes us to the interview with the winner. Rhonda Singh claims to have always been the strongest link among the Monsters and says she’s got what it takes to go all the way to the top in 1987. The match that follows is the first of our three championship bouts, Medusa Miceli looking to head off a challenge from Velvet McIntyre. They’ve fought before and spent weeks training together, so the opening five minutes are chain of reversals and counter reversals, as all either one of them can do is look for the briefest misstep from the other. The first to stumble is Medusa Miceli but Velvet McIntyre is too over eager and tries to convert that into a pin attempt which doesn’t even get to two. They respectfully break apart after the pin before going another round. Eventually, grappling Is replaced with striking, and we start to the two trading blows. With Velvet McIntyre knocked off balance, Medusa Miceli is able to score the first big move of the match, dropping the challenger over her knee with a backbreaker. The match continues in a fierce back-and-forth fashion like this until they both begin to make mistakes more frequently as a result of exhaustion. Both then intuitively race to the finish, dropping their defensive styles. Medusa Miceli defeats Velvet McIntyre in 21:51 by pinfall after a German suplex to retain the WWW Fighting Spirit Championship and the NWA Texas Women’s Championship We get another video detailing Wendi Richter’s behaviour at the previous supercard to transition us to the interviews. Velvet McIntyre and Medusa Miceli once again share the interview time, talking each other up and speculating on the main event, both now agree that they expect Wendi Richter to retain the world title. The penultimate match sees Rockin’ Robin and Jamie West challenging the Nasty Girls for the tag team titles. Once again, this is a familiar matchup, with both teams knowing each other inside and out, but here there’s not even a shred of mutual respect. The Star Girls hold nothing back and the champions live up to their name, running through every dirty trick in the book. The faces go for big moves and team-up manoeuvres whenever they can but every poke in the eye, stamp on the foot and rake of the back adds up and they spend the match on the back foot. Linda Dallas & Kat LeRoux defeat Rockin’ Robin & Jamie West in 19:11 when Linda Dallas pins Rockin’ Robin with her feet on the ropes to retain the NWA World Women’s Tag Team Championship After the match, the Star Girls attack the victors, blindsiding them and proceeding to stomp a mudhole in them. Staff rush in to break up the chaos but, once they’ve wrestled the faces away from their opponents, the Nasty Girls retaliate, and the staff lose control. They eat through their interview time until a large enough mass of people can get them to the back. A brief promotional package – promising new stars and big matches in 1987 – then takes us through to the main event. Wendi Richter, in red and white singlet, once again milks her entrance, in order to drive her opponent up the wall. It works, and she’s able to get a nasty kick in when Debbie Combs tries to spear her before the bell. The action only increases in ferocity from there, as both women appear practically murderous in their intentions. The two have a brutal back-and-forth, with plenty of crowd interaction and ringside brawling. Eventually, Wendi Richter spots Lisa Moretti in the crowd and cannot help but torment her, allowing Debbie Combs some much needed room to breathe, regroup and strategize. The result is the champ losing control of the match in its second half and having to deal with a few pin attempts that come extraordinarily close to putting her away. When the challenger decides to go high risk, however, and mount the turnbuckle, she is instead sent violently crashing to the outside by a hyper-aware champion. When the referee goes to check on Debbie Combs, however, Lisa Moretti seizes her opportunity and mashes Wendi Richter over the back with a steel chair before scarpering. The champ gets to her feet just as the challenger enters the ring and delivers the finishing blow. Debbie Combs defeats Wendi Richter in 28:47 by pinfall after a neckbreaker to win the NWA World Women’s Championship We end on a shot of a jubilant Debbie Combs as the commentators bid the viewers a Merry Christmas.

Vader is such a good monster here! Jake Roberts versus Rocky Johnson would've been a treat to see live. Let's see where the Snake goes as the champ here, in a solid upper-mid card spot! A big six man, with the Freebirds involved is a guaranteed treat, and I loved seeing Michael Hayes take the coward's way out! What a great entrance for Bruiser Brody! I can't wait to see what else he gets up to in the UWF! The main event was such a great rollercoaster of emotions! It's great to see the Sheik's plans crumble before his eyes, and Butch Reed retain his hard-won title!
  25. Randy Savage versus Nikita Koloff could very well end up stealing the show!
