  1. Always love seeing Ted DiBiase and Steve Williams succeed, and it was great to see the Funks show up at the end! I thought Dick Slater might be able to do but Jumbo Tsuruta's just too good! Magnum, T.A. catching One Man Gang for the Belly-to-Belly is a really cool visual to end the show on!
  2. An excellent bit of drama in the main event! Butch Reed getting the better of the interlopers was so satisfying!
  3. Ricky Steamboat remains champion, yes! A well deserved win for Cabin Fever, and a unification match is always a great way to get someone over. Curt Hennig and Brian Adias need to get their heads back in the game, pronto!
  4. Lanny Poffo really is such a neat mid card act, it's great to see him get his heat back after a loss! The Riches totalling screwing the Armstrongs was tonnes of fun and I suspect it's building to an almighty blowback. What a main event! It ends with such a good visual of Nikita Koloff passing out, keeping him strong enough for a return somewhere down the line.
  5. There's such a strong heel presence here! The faces are going to need to coalesce or else find an ace in the hole!
  6. I love the TV title match finish, such a fun way to get heat. It'll be really interesting to see the issue between the Union and the Olympians develop!
  7. Wonder Women of Wrestling – Episode No. XL – 1st of September 1986 – Airing Live! – Las Vegas, Nevada Advertised Match: Debbie Combs & Misty Blue Simmes & Babyface Nellie versus Wendi Richter & Peggy Lee Leather & KC Houston The programme kicks off this week with highlights from the supercard, mainly revolving around the crowning of a new world champion. When we get to the television title match, it’s obvious that Medusa Miceli has been rattled by the aftermath of her match at the supercard, she appears distracted and hesitant throughout and has no one at ringside to help her. Velvet McIntyre takes full advantage of the situation and presses the champ at every turn. The two women go hard and become quite ruthless towards the end but the finish could’ve been predicting from the opening bell as Medusa Miceli misses a crucial opportunity to execute her signature move and Velvet McIntyre capitalises. Velvet McIntyre defeats Medusa Miceli in 14:44 by pinfall after a swinging hurricanrana to win the WWW Television Championship After a brief video interlude, we get to the interviews. Medusa Miceli is enraged, tosses a chair across the hall and promises to get even with everyone who’s wronged her. Velvet McIntyre gushes about her victory and wishes luck to her friends in the main event tonight. A commercial break then takes us through to the first match-up for a newly formed team of Penny Mitchell and Candi Devine. They face Vicky Carranza and Lady Apache. A totally inexperienced team up against a low ranked but established team makes for an interesting match, with all participants having something to prove and a series of mistakes to deal with. In the end, it’s the sheer mercilessness of Penny Mitchell that gets the job done. Penny Mitchell & Candi Devine defeat Vicky Carranza & Lady Apache in 13:01 when Penny Mitchell pins Lady Apache after a swinging neckbreaker Another video interlude then takes us to the interviews. The faces are disquieted by their loss and come to the realisation that they’ll need to be twice as good as any opponent that resorts to dirty tactics in order to stand a chance. Penny Mitchell uses her interview to gloat, promising to do great things now that she’s free of the deadweight that was Candice Pardue. The second commercial break then takes us to the main event. Debbie Combs and Wendi Richter enjoy the bulk of the ring time, with the hyper-confident Wendi Richter holding a distinct advantage over the demoralised Debbie Combs. The match is a fun back-and-forth with a relatively predictable finish. Whereas Wendi Richter is a cut above the other competitors, her tag partners are nowhere near skilled enough to help her capitalise on that advantage and both Misty Blue Simmes and Babyface Nellie fight with an awareness that they have to make up for a slightly shaken Debbie Combs. Debbie Combs & Misty Blue Simmes & Babyface Nellie defeat Wendi Richter & Peggy Lee Leather & KC Houston in 15:20 when Babyface Nellie pins KC Houston after a running knee drop to retain the WWW Trios Championship The programme ends with a shot of the three champions celebrating, though Debbie Combs appears unhappy with her performance.
  8. Scott Hall came out of that six-man looking great! I'm really pleased to see Brian Pillman get an impressive singles win. What a fun main event, the Hart Foundation are excellent champions!
  9. Great build to Labour Day! I love the frightening image of Ricky Steamboat in the Full Nelson, saved by the bell!
  10. That confrontation between Butch Reed and Jake Roberts was a great way to sell the card in Baton Rouge!
  11. Dick Slater looking really strong heading into the Spectacular! There's nothing like a Terry Funk piledriver to top things off!
  12. Wonder Women Wrestling AUGUST SUPERCARD 1986 Live from: Las Vegas, Nevada The broadcast kicks of with a music video hyping up the main event before transitioning to the standard light show. Just before the opening match gets underway, the commentators explain that is part of two round tournament. The Glamour girls square up against Lady Apache and Vicky Carranza in a fun and fast-paced fight the goes back and forth to begin with but eventually ends with the heels in firm control – their tactical acumen and willingness to break the rules gives them an edge that neither babyface has much hope of countering. Leilani Kai & Judy Martin defeat Lady Apache & Vicky Carranza in 09:51 when Leilani Kai pins Vicky Carranza after a big boot to advance to the second round A graphics package filling in the very simple tournament layout fills in the gap to the second match in the round, this one between the team of Desiree Petersen and Selina Majors and the team of Brittany Brown and Ashly Kennedy. This match is more even-handed and hard-fought, with the slightest advantage going the faces, on account of Desiree Petersen’s experience. The two teams sprint to the finish, however, and take risks they otherwise wouldn’t to avoid being too worn down later in the night. Desiree Petersen & Selina Majors defeat Brittany Brown & Ashly Kennedy in 11:32 when Desiree Petersen submits Brittany Brown with a Boston crab to advance to the second round A music video, this one detailing the journey so far for the Monsters and hyping up their match later, takes us through to the third match of the night. Winona Little Heart and Susan Starr attempt to dethrone the tag champions, Wendi Richter and Peggy Lee Leather. By now, the structure of these matches is familiar; Wendi Richter has an undoubtable edge as a competitor but little interest in collaborating with her less effective tag team partner. The faces catch onto the fact that Peggy Lee Leather is the weak link early on but that doesn’t translate into guaranteed success as both of them suffer brutal beatings whenever they’re in the ring with Wendi Richter. A scare for her partner lets the former world champion know its time to wrap things up and, once she’s tagged herself in, she runs over her opposition. Wendi Richter & Peggy Lee Leather defeat Winona Little Heart & Susan Starr in 15:23 when Wendi Richter pins Winona Little Heart after a powerbomb to retain the NWA World Women’s Tag Team Championship After a plug for the merchandise catalogue – replete with images sent in by satisfied fans – we get to the first interviews of the night. The babyfaces are joined by their fellow Giant Slayers and congratulate them on their own victory earlier before grappling with their failure to capture the world titles – they worry that Wendi Richter may have effectively set herself up as a permanent champion. When informed of those comment, Wendi Richter concurs wholeheartedly, declaring herself to be a cut above the rest of the women in the company and saying that, if the rules allowed it, she’d defend the belts all by herself. Peggy Lee Leather nervously voices her support. The next match is an eight-woman tag team contest, pitting Medusa Miceli and her minions against Velvet McIntyre, Babyface Nellie, and the Star Girls. From bell to bell, the fight is a brutal and hellacious affair, with not a single woman escaping without a nasty scrape or bruise of some kind. Neither side has an and, as the match wears on, every involved becomes increasingly desperate to secure a flash pinfall. Any variation could’ve closed the match but, in the end, it was Luna Vachon who fell short. Velvet McIntyre & Babyface Nellie & Rockin’ Robin & Jamie West defeat Medusa Miceli & Luna Vachon & Mad Maxine & Rhonda Singh in 21:04 when Velvet McIntyre pins Luna Vachon after a swinging hurricanrana After the match, the Monsters remain in the ring for a dressing down from their leader. Far from simply screaming at them, however, Medusa Miceli decides to become physical and starts to pummel Luna Vachon mercilessly. When Rhonda Singh tries to pull her away, she gets a hard elbow to the face. Medusa Miceli and Rhonda Singh then end up in a brawl that is only ended by the intervention of Mad Maxine. She takes a dramatically long time to decide who to side with but, ultimately, decides to pick up her leader and dump her violently over the ropes and onto the floor. We cut away from the chaos as it dies down in order to collect at least one interview. The faces relish in both their victory and the implosion of the Monsters. Next up, the two teams that advanced for the first round of the tag tournament earlier in the night square off. All four women appear to have recuperated, making for a stronger match with a slower pace and more intelligent strategizing. In the end, it seems to come down to who wants in more and the faces, desperate to make up for their stablemates’ failure and reinsert the Giant Slayers into the title picture, are the ones with that little bit extra oomph. Desiree Petersen & Selina Majors defeat Leilani Kai & Judy Martin in 17:39 when Desiree Petersen submits Judy Martin with a Boston crab Another hype package for the main event takes us through to the interviews. The Glamour Girls allege that they were actually fighting injured as a result of the “extreme violence” of Lady Apache and Vicky Carranza and, therefore, deserve to have the result thrown out and the match rerun at a later date. The Giant Slayers, on the other hand, are ecstatic about their victories and the four all agree to redouble their training efforts, in order to eventually topple Wendi Richter. For the main event, Debbie Combs is given an elaborate entrance as she comes down to the ring, brimming with confidence. Lisa Moretti remains passive throughout, hiding her hatred well. As soon as the bell is rung, the gloves come off and both women take each other to the edge. Debbie Combs has improved since their last bout and yet she remains on the backfoot throughout. The commentators speculate that Lisa Moretti might have successfully rattled her psychological over the past few weeks. Lisa Moretti doesn’t leave anything to chance and takes every short cut she can, leaving every referee’s count to four, pulling her opponent’s hair and poking her eyes as often as she can. Debbie Combs weathers the abuse, however, and responds with force whenever she has the opportunity. The competitors trade signature moves and score a near-fall each before the finish. In the end, the match comes to a close with controversy. Lisa Moretti defeats Debbie Combs in 26:09 by pinfall with her feet on the ropes to win the NWA World Women’s Championship and retain the WWW Fighting Spirit Championship and the NWA Texas Women’s Championship The programme ends on a shot of a tearful and disbelieving Debbie Combs staring up at a gleeful Lisa Moretti taunting the crowd.
  13. I concur, Jumbo Tsuruta look really strong heading into this. Dick Slater is going to need to pull out all the stops!
  14. I really love Owen Hart get a chance to shine! Ron Simmons versus Stan Hansen will be cool hard-hitting match to see.
  15. Wonder Women of Wrestling – Episode No. XXXIX – 25th of August 1986 – Airing Live! – Las Vegas, Nevada Advertised Match: Lisa Moretti versus Misty Blue Simmes for the WWW Fighting Spirit Championship and the NWA Texas Women’s Championship With no time to waste, we open this week’s programme right at the opening bell of the television title match, with Babyface Nellie challenging an increasingly tyrannical Medusa Miceli. The monsters are at ringside, but they are reticent to get involved at several points for fearing of incurring their leader’s wrath. The two women go hard on each other and, by the time they get to the finish, they’re both gasping for breath. Ironically, it is Luna Vachon’s hesitation that causes her to be out-of-position when she tries to interfere, causing Medusa Miceli to collide with her. Luna Vachon takes a nasty fall on the outside, to the concern of her stablemates, and her leader is momentarily dizzied by the collision – for just long enough for Babyface Nellie to capitalise on. A near-fall from a roll-up spooks the champ so badly that she scrambles out of the ring. Babyface Nellie defeats Medusa Miceli in 14:21 by count-out but the WWW Television Championship does not change hands A hype package for the supercard on Saturday plays – with particular emphasis on Debbie Combs – and then we get to the interviews. Medusa Miceli is apoplectic and slaps Luna Vachon repeatedly, threatening to kick her out of the group but the rest of the stable convinces her to avoid going through with it – they mention an eight-woman tag match at the supercard that they don’t want to be a woman down for. Babyface Nellie is outraged by the finish of the match and demands another shot at the belt. A commercial break then takes us through to another match with the Monsters, as Rhonda Singh and Mad Maxine take on Winona Little Heart and Susan Starr. The story of the match is this: The faces are in-sync and more tactically sound, but the heels have a massive strength advantage. Medusa Miceli is at ringside and, intentionally or not, she negates her allies’ advantage by yelling instructions at them at every turn. In the end, Rhonda Singh is distracted at a crucial juncture and is taken out by a missile dropkick. Mad Maxine is more than willing to come to her rescue but an enraged Medusa Miceli tells her not to intervene. Winona Little Heart & Susan Starr defeat Rhonda Singh & Mad Maxine in 13:51 when Winona Little Heart pins Rhonda Singh after a missile dropkick After a brief video interlude, we get to the interviews. Medusa Miceli gives her stable a dressing down and declares that their match at the supercard will be make-or-break for all of them. The Giant Slayers are joined by their stablemates and promise to take the titles on Saturday, though they express some apprehension about facing Wendi Richter. The second commercial break then takes us to the main event. Debbie Combs is at ringside, as much to measure up for challenger as to cheer on her friend. Lisa Moretti is made more determined by the world champion’s appearance but also more prone to show-boating – the effects seem to cancel each other out. Misty Blue Simmes knows that she has an excellent opportunity to show up a long-time rival and insert herself into the title picture, so she holds nothing back, matching the champ’s ferocity and violence with her own. After a brief scare – trying to taunt Debbie Combs backfired on Lisa Moretti when Misty Blue Simmes slipped out of the lazy headlock she’d been put in to roll the champ up for a two and three quarters count – Lisa Moretti gives the match her undivided attention and puts it away. Lisa Moretti defeats Misty Blue Simmes in 16:49 by pinfall after a powerslam to retain the WWW Fighting Spirit Championship and the NWA Texas Women’s Championship The show goes off are to scenes of Debbie Combs and Lisa Moretti exchanging heated words.
  16. Great job on the blindfold match! The stipulation for the Patriots makes them look strong heading into their title match and I cannot wait for Ted DiBiase versus Nikita Koloff - what a show Baton Rouge has coming to them!
  17. I really like the idea of Brian Pillman and Vic Steamboat teaming up! Also, great story-telling in the main event!
  18. I love seeing the Russians running rampant! I'm looking forward to that blindfold match and that world tag title match is going to be a lot of fun!
  19. The Tiger suplex on Dick Slater is a great visual to end the show on. This feud has been great!
  20. That title for title tag match is going to be great! Billy Jack Haynes seems to be holding up against Ricky Steamboat but I'm not worried about the Dragon, he's unbeatable. Larry Zbyszko and Giant Haystacks makes for an intimidating team, for sure.
  21. Dusty Rhodes and Magnum, T.A. versus Blackjack Mulligan and Ron Boss is such a strong main event!
  22. Tojo Yamamoto is running roughshod over everyone! Great imagery, having Dick Slater hit over the head with the flag!
  23. Wonder Women of Wrestling – Episode No. XXXVIII – 18th of August 1986 – Airing Live! – Las Vegas, Nevada Advertised Match: Debbie Combs & Candice Pardue versus Lisa Moretti & Penny Mitchell The programme kicks off, once again, with the traditional television title opener. Intriguingly, this time Medusa Miceli is taking on the woman she infamously kicked out of her faction, Reggie Bennett. The rest of her are at ringside, all the unreadable expressions on their faces – apart from the occasional flashes of concern. Reggie Bennett is mad as hell and capable of packing one hell of a punch, so the match is far from one-sided, but Medusa Miceli holds a distinctive tactical edge throughout. The match goes longer than it needs to, as both women are more interested in inflicting pain on each other than scoring a quick pinfall. In the end, a weary and bruised Reggie Bennett struggles to keep up with her former leader, who slips past her and delivers the final blow. Medusa Miceli defeats Reggie Bennett in 13:41 by pinfall after a German suplex to retain the WWW Television Championship As soon as the match is over, Medusa Miceli wastes no time going to work on her opponent. Reggie Bennett is beaten mercilessly, and the rest of her stable keep the staff away. The violence only ends with the intervention of Rhonda Singh, who pulls her leader away – almost receiving a strike from the enraged Medusa Miceli for her trouble. The scenes eat through the interview time, so we transition from a traditional quick video package to a commercial break. We then head to the first of two tag team bouts. Winona Little Heart and Susan Starr take on Linda Dallas and Kat LeRoux. Both teams know that a victory here takes them through to a fight the Monsters and tantalisingly close to a title bout. The two teams are in-sync, both with each other and with their opponents, making for a match that flows almost seamlessly from an advantage for the faces to and advantages for the heels and back again. It could go either way but, in the end, it’s Winona Little Heart who proves she has just a little bit more oomph than the others. Winona Little Heart & Susan Starr defeat Linda Dallas & Kat LeRoux in 11:58 when Winona Little Heart pins Linda Dallas with a victory roll After a video package hyping up the main event, we get to the interviews. The Nasty Girls refuse to accept responsibility for the loss; their opponents cheated, Linda Dallas had her shoulder up, and so on. The babyfaces are joined by their giddy compatriots, Desiree Petersen and Selina Majors, and declare themselves ready to face the Monsters next week. A commercial break then takes us through to the main event. The animosity between Candice Pardue and Penny Mitchell is on full display, even before the match starts, as the two stare daggers at each other. Neither Debbie Combs nor Lisa Moretti is willing to let the match be decided by them, however, and they spent the bulk of the match in the ring together – a preview of their bout scheduled for the supercard. They’re both on top form and wrestle at a break-neck pace. Candice Pardue very obviously wants a piece of Penny Mitchell, but the heel finds it much more satisfying to tag herself out whenever they’re the ring together. A frustrated Candice Pardue, then, is easily identified as the weak link. Lisa Moretti spots this fact before Debbie Combs and decides to act. Lisa Moretti & Penny Mitchell defeat Debbie Combs & Candice Pardue in 15:02 when Lisa Moretti pins Candice Pardue after a powerslam After the match, the two champions predictably end up in each other’s face, ready to carry on the fight before members of staff pour in to keep them away from each other.
  24. That was a really strong tournament final, with a great feel good post-match celebration!
  25. You continue to do a great job building Lanny Poffo, I can't wait to see how far you take him! Ted DiBiase and Steve Williams versus Terry Taylor and Tom Zenk is such a solid main event!
