    NXT talk

Making Almas' bust of a WWE career into a gimmick being that he's too worried about fucking and getting fucked up to care about wrestling is so lol
  2. Right, it's a troll post, when other people in this very thread on this very board that you are also on acknowledged seeing it as well at other places. I'm suggesting literally the opposite of fetishism, as these people are obsessed with how much they hate the hair, not how much they love it. But nah, I just made it up for...what gain, I don't know yet, but I'll figure it out and let you know.
  3. That's...an interesting conclusion you drew. You think I'm calling those people obsessed with the hair women's wrestling fetishists?
  4. I'm betting Okada's super finisher is going to be another basic move. The rainmaker is a fucking short arm clothesline that was built up as a death move for the past few years. His super move is going to be something like a folding powerbomb.
  5. I hope to never see Undertaker on television ever again. Not even for the HOF.
  6. Yeah even other worked sports like roller derby don't use it. Except they do. So do things like American Gladiators, American Ninja, Harlem Globetrotters, etc. Sports entertainment is a classification, not a buzzword.
  7. Sports entertainment is also a real term that is used by things other than wrestling and dates back to I think the late 30s.
  8. That's such a minor thing to get pissy at. Like, of all the problems with a given episode of Raw, medical facility instead of hospital stands out to people.
  9. You'd have to be more detailed here as to what you mean. There's a definite increase in buzzwords these days compared to before. The biggest ones right now are people getting losing their shit to Nakamura being called "The Artist" every time he's mentioned and guys mentioning the full PPV name during promos. You know, like Hogan was always called the Hulkster or The Immortal One, Bret was always called the Hitman, Savage the Macho Man etc etc. God forbid people say the name of the show their match is on. Hard to get indignant over watching a company who makes its money with its branding selling you its branding every week.
  10. About to add a new choice: Anger at WWE's branding and marketing, as if they just realized WWE uses insistent terminology, something the company has been doing since the 1970s.
  11. Lana is a legit good dancer, gtfo. Although wtf is the point of a burlesque dancer type gimmick on a PG show for a non-wrestler who even if she wrestles is going to be bottom of the barrel. She's not even NXT house show level in the ring, so I can't imagine she'll be doing in ring stuff, and with Rusev ready to come back, it seems weird to have them on the same show but split and doing different gimmicks. I mean, I'm not really opposed to giving people something new to do, but I don't see where this specific gimmick can possibly go in this specific era and time.
  12. I lol'd
  13. I had a concussion in 4th grade (over 20 years ago) and I wasn't allowed to participate in recess for 3 weeks. Not even a sport. RECESS.

Who are you talking about? I'm talking about Vickie Guerrero and how much fans hated her so much they had to turn her heel
  15. The Dynamic Dudes weren't that bad.
  16. There were like 15 famous NFL players (and plenty of ones no one remembers) that retired between 1993-2000 due to concussions. And an insane amount of NHL players in the same time.
  17. I posted that on Wreddit and of course got downvoted, with people saying no one knew about concussions back then. In 1999. Even after CTE had been covered with dementia pugilistica having been talked about since the 1920s, and the preponderance of NHL/NFL athletes being forced to retire due to concussions and post-concussion syndrome throughout the 90s and some as early as 1980, and the WWF actually running a concussion/PCS angle with HBK in 1995, plus wrestlers like Bret Hart being forced to retire in 2000, people genuinely seem to think no one knew about concussions and their impact until a few years ago. It's bizarre. Nevermind the fact that young children who have never heard the word concussion know that hitting your head is bad and you should avoid it. Bryan seeing concussions as a badge of honor during training sheds some light on the rest of his career and why even after being forced to retire due to concussions, he still seems to talk about them like badges of honor and clearly still has plans to resume his in ring career after his WWE contract is up.
  18. With Brock as a champ who only shows up every couple of months, it seems like you should take this time to rotate various feuds and guys out of the "main event" spot. There's really no need for a singular top heel or face if you have a champion like Brock, since Brock is Brock and character alignment really means nothing at all in a match against him. If they knew Strowman was hurt and going to be out for a while, what makes the most sense to me is to use the post Payback angle to keep both he and Roman off TV for a few weeks to sell the brutality of the match itself and say Braun hurt himself when he KNOCKED AN AMBULANCE DOOR OFF IT'S HINGES. My opinion of Brock's title reign is the same as it was in 2014: A redux of his 2002 reign but on a monthly instead of weekly basis.

First off, can we talk about how fucking horrible wrestling fans are that they turned a beloved star's WIDOW into the top heel for like 5 years? Like, wtf. But back to Edge. The HHH comparison doesn't hold water with me after he went solo as a heel. Yes, Chyna and then DX as a whole buoyed him in 1997-1998. Stephanie and Evolution certainly did not.

Inexplicably pushed to that level to start with. Once he was pushed to that level, most of his heat on Raw as derived from Lita, and most of his heat on SD was derived from Vickie. I'm not sure there was ever a period in his career where he didn't need someone to play off of to make him look better. It's very obvious the decision that Edge was going to be a top guy was made in 2002 at the latest, and fans totally rejected the idea in 2003-2005 until the Matt/Lita thing happened. Yet, it never stopped them from pushing him hard. That's what is inexplicable to me. That they picked a dude who clearly wasn't as good as the people he was paired with, who was very average in the ring and mic, who wasn't particularly attractive either....someone high up decided he was going to be a main eventer and didn't stop until he became a "legend". Edge's push in modern WWE would have as hard of a backlash as Roman's, except he's not nearly as good in the ring as Roman has proven to be over the past 2-3 years.

Once again my comparison to Jeff Jarrett had nothing to do with his overness to crowds but in his clearly average/competent at best work and promos somehow getting him 6 years straight (minus injuries) of dominating the main event scene on whichever show he was on. For me personally, I have the same reaction watching Edge's main event stuff as I have trying to watch WCW 2000 and having Jeff Jarrett and the Harris Bros in every 3rd segment all show long.

Canadian dad smark humor. The worst. Although even now, Christian comes off as far cooler, far funnier, and has much better timing than Edge.

In what world is a cage match not a gimmick match?

Do you have a list of quality singles matches that didn't involve gimmicks?

A surprise returning main eventer will always get a big pop in the Rumble. I'm not sure that's the best way to judge his popularity. And it's always impossible to tell who was truly over or not on SD due to the sound machine. The Edge/Jericho match at WM that year was pretty heatless.
