  1. I don't think all of those matches are great. Part of my dismissal of the Cactus matches is how much Foley has fallen out of favor with me over the years. I don't think any of those hold up to the best Tommy Rich singles stuff we have, nothing compared to Dundee, Lawler, Dutch or even the big Koko matches. I liken him more to Rick Rude who should have way more memorable performances for as long as he was around. In terms of angles and moments, he has tons of them... the Lawler feud, the broken neck, the New Fabs, Russians vs. Watts feud, breaking Doc's arm, etc. As one of the best wrestlers, he'll miss my cut.
  2. I should have the NWA DVDVR project wrapped up before this project finishes. I'll evaluate Barry then.
  3. I enjoy watching Eddie Gilbert but he doesn't have the singles matches that the other Memphis guys do. He has moments but not enough to crack my Top 100.

    Butch Reed

That was a loaded set with all time classics.
  5. I love me some Rick Rude matches but I think he misses my personal cut. Top 200 for sure. Just misses my 100.
  6. Dick Murdoch vs. The Nightmare (7/14/85) Dick Murdoch vs. Butch Reed (9/22/85) Dick Murdoch vs. Butch Reed (10/14/85) Ted Dibiase vs. Dick Murdoch (JIP) (12/27/85) Ted DiBiase vs. Dick Murdoch (12/31/85) Steve Williams vs. Dick Murdoch (6/13/87) Barry Windham vs. Dick Murdoch (7/11/87) These are the singles matches from the Mid South set. He has the Jumbo matches from the All Japan set, the singles Windham match from WWWF, the Abby brainbuster match, the Nikita Koloff match and more I can't think of off the top of my head. Add his tag matches and I don't see how he isn't a Top 30 guy. Everything I love about wrestling, Murdoch is great at and he has the match list to back it up. Just to refresh people's memory, this is what I said about Murdoch in the microscope...
  7. If I am going to put on Garvin and Valentine, I can't leave Tito off. He won't go high but he'll be on the list for sure.

    Butch Reed

I have stated that Butch Reed and 2 Cold Scorpio could fight for best black wrestler of the modern era. I have to think about his placement but I don't think I will leave him off. Notable matches from the Mid South set... Butch Reed v. Iron Shiek (4/8/83) Mr. Wrestling II & Magnum T.A. vs. Butch Reed & Jim Neidhart (12/25/83) Buddy Landell & Butch Reed vs. The Rock n Roll Express (3/28/84) Dusty Rhodes & Jim Duggan vs. Butch Reed & Hercules Hernandez (8/19/84) Butch Reed vs. Skip Young (9/23/84) Ernie Ladd & Butch Reed vs. Magnum TA & Master G (Ghetto Street Fight) (11/4/84) Rock N Roll Express & Butch Reed vs. Steve Williams, Kamala & One Man Gang (2/25/85) Hacksaw Butch Reed vs. Ted DiBiase (7/25/85) Ric Flair vs. Butch Reed (8/10/85) Dick Murdoch vs. Butch Reed (9/22/85) Butch Reed vs. Ric Flair (10/11/85) Dick Murdoch vs. Butch Reed (10/14/85) Butch Reed vs. Ric Flair (11/8/85) Dick Slater v. Butch Reed (11/22/85) Butch Reed vs. Dick Slater (No DQ) (12/13/85) Buzz Sawyer v Butch Reed (No DQ Dog collar match) (12/31/85) Butch Reed vs. Dick Slater (1/1/86) J Add in a good run with Doom and his Blackwell match, Reed should make my list.
  9. Dude, I am not a math expert. I really should let mookieghana answer that on. Then again, if people are doing their due diligence and then not putting Dandy on their ballot, their ballot is shite.
  10. He is in my Memphis category. Had memorable performances in every company he was in. He was a legend. He also presents a dilemma that I face with guys like Steamboat. Savage, Steamboat, Dibiase... these are guys I have personal attachment to even though I know there are better guys out there. Do I ignore these guys who gave me hours of entertainment from my youth?
  11. It depends. If ten guys have Dandy averaged at the tenth spot (lets say at 90 points a pop) for 900 points. Arn averages out at 50 on 25 ballots (1250 points) then I think Arn goes ahead unless there is a bonus system for Top Ten placements.
  12. I won't have him in the Top quarter but he'll rank well. I think the Regal match may be his best singles match ever but I love that match so there it is.

    Bret Hart

Funny that Punk and Bret are two of my favourite wrestlers of all-time. Add in Muraco, who is the same way. Not to get off track but there is a Muraco thread where I beg you to actually list and argue for some great matches. There isn't even a Muraco thread (or I missed it in the search engine). Bret and Punk are in the conversation. Muraco isn't. Anyway, Bret has too many good-great matches for me to leave off. He won't beat out the Memphis and lucha guys but he'll place in the Top 100.
  14. It isn't just that he could be carried like a guy like Bulldog. he kept having great matches over and over. It wasn't like Lawler carried Kerry to one great match and they had a bunch of duds because he was doped up. They kept having great matches. Same with Flair and Gino and Adams and the Freebirds,
  15. When I put together a Steamboat set years back, the Muraco matches stood out as being below average. Since I have yet to see a standout singles Muraco match from the 80s, it just reinforces the idea that Muraco won't make my list of top 950 guys.
  16. Disqualified for killing his wife & kid.
  17. There has been lots of talk about great matches and Kerry was absolutely a big match worker. He had the benefit of working with greats like Flair, Jumbo and Lawler but he also worked with guys like Hayes, OMG, Kamala, Chris Adams and Gino Hernandez to positive results. His WWF run absolutely hurts him but he had an amazing run of big matches. This is a list of singles matches that made (not nominated but made) the DVDVR lists so far. I didn't include any tag matches including the amazing run of matches with the Freebirds or the Dynamic Duo. Add in the pride he had in introducing Gorky park and Kerry will be on my list again. Michael Hayes vs. Kerry Von Erich (2/7/83) Genichiro Tenryu vs. Kerry Von Erich (4/7/83) Terry Gordy vs. Kerry Von Erich (No DQ) (6/10/83) Michael Hayes vs. Kerry Von Erich (Country Whipping Match) (9/5/83) Kerry Von Erich vs. Michael Hayes (Loser Leaves Town Cage Match) (11/24/83) Ric Flair vs. Kerry Von Erich (5/6/84) Terry Gordy vs. Kerry Von Erich (World Title Match) (5/7/84) Ric Flair vs. Kerry Von Erich (5/11/84) Jumbo Tsuruta vs. Kerry Von Erich (2/3 Falls) (5/22/84) Kerry Von Erich vs. Ric Flair (5/24/84) Gino Hernandez vs. Kerry Von Erich (7/20/84) Kerry Von Erich vs. Terry Gordy (Lumberjack Match) (8/17/84) Chris Adams vs. Kerry Von Erich (1/11/85) Chris Adams vs. Kerry Von Erich (2/8/85) Kerry Von Erich vs. Ric Flair (4/28/85) Kerry Von Erich vs. Ric Flair (5/4/85) Kerry Von Erich vs. One Man Gang (11/15/85) Rick Rude vs. Kerry Von Erich (12/13/85) Rick Rude vs. Kerry Von Erich (3/7/86) Al Perez vs. Kerry Von Erich (3/6/88) Jerry Lawler vs. Kerry Von Erich (6/27/88) Jerry Lawler vs. Kerry Von Erich (9/17/88) Jerry Lawler vs. Kerry Von Erich (9/23/88) Jerry Lawler vs. Kerry Von Erich (Cage Match) (11/25/88) Jerry Lawler vs. Kerry Von Erich (12/13/88) Jerry Lawler vs. Kerry Von Erich (Title vs. Title) (12/15/89)

    Tommy Rich

Unless somebody else steps up and declares they will be the high voter for Tommy Rich, I will probably be the high voter for Tommy Rich. Loved his early Memphis stuff. Loved his post-World title run Memphis stuff. Wished their was more Georgia footage out there. He has enough complete high-end matches that I have no problem putting him high on my list. Add that he made the transition to a great mouthpiece for the FBI and Rich is A+ in my book.

    Mick Foley

I like Foley. I don't love Foley. Won't make my list even if he made my Smarkschoice list.

    CM Punk

I wouldn't have any other Indy guy from the last 15 years above him except for Daniel Bryan. With that said, that is a lot of luchadors and Memphis guys to overcome. Also, I think his 2003 is really under-rated. Rewatched the Terry Funk match that got shit on because of the bad finish but that match was a feather in his cap. ROH fans were not used to the type of booking (for better or worse) so it gets shit on. His feud with Raven was compelling because it felt real (even though you knew it wasn't) and entertaining without the MOTY stuff. Add the MOTYC stuff that came after and he has a good case.

    Chris Hero

I have seen 3 MOTYCs with Hero on the card out of seeing him in 5 matches live. I really enjoyed his Indy run pre-WWE and the few times he was allowed to shine in NXT. Not a lock but not off the list.

    Cesaro

He needed a stronger Indy run to pop my list. I am one of the biggest Cesaro supporters but his run is incomplete.

    Fit Finlay

Actually some of Finlay's most heated matches are his below average matches we have on Handheld from Austria. The crowd would go nuts for him but the matches weren't always up to snuff.

    Mark Henry

I think Henry has the matches especially during the Hall of Pain run. His Orton title win made the MOTY set. His Big Show match with the collapsed ring was one of the most memorable matches I have ever seen live BEFORE the big spot. The Punk RAW match was going to MOTY levels before the DQ. The Cena MITB match proves he can pop numbers. With the exception of the Vader series, I don't think there is a Sting match out there that I enjoy more than the Hall of Pain run (maybe the Regal series but for Regal mainly).
  25. Do it!!! For shits and giggles.
