Has anyone's character been more protected than Taker's ever? I wouldn't argue with someone who put them on their list because he sort of an iconic figure but I don't know if he would make it in my Top 300.
-
Why did he need to lift a weight? He was great in Texas. He had some hot tags and six man matches in UWF. He had some decent matches in Crockett. He was one of the best talkers ever, had tons of charisma, sold his ass off, could brawl with the best of them and drew big money. He has all the ingredients.

You just like shitty wrestlers. It's ok to have bad opinions here at PWO where the only expectation is that you are a wrestling fan.
-
It was a committee that also included Childs and Kris Z. If anybody felt that strongly about those, they could have fought for them or included them as personal picks. Why waste time worrying about old ass Dory Funk when I could watch more Tenryu & Hara tags?
-
Liger's 1989 run is as good as any other run in his career. A top 20 pick without thinking too hard.

This was my write-up... Road Warriors vs. Dory and Terry Funk (10/10/86) - Terry's Manny Fernandez mustache is doing him no favors. Too much Road Warrior domination and no-selling for me to nominate but the Funks are making this hard since they are really good at selling and bumping here. The Kris Z follow up... Dory & Terry Funk vs. The Road Warriors (Animal & Hawk) (10/10/86) YAY Terry is back and with his hair/mustache combo, he looks like he is ready to star with Nina Hartley more than starring with Patrick Swayze. The Roadies were in full Roadies in Japan mode as far as selling here. This was entertaining but not a nomination.

You and I view wrestling differently. It's no biggie.

The way Fujinami was the king of New Japan, Lawler in Memphis, Jumbo in All Japan and Bock in AWA... Dibiase was the Mid South king. So many great matches in that short span alone that he will be on the list. He was also my favorite guy as a kid pre-MDM. That will factor in somehow.

it wasn't stand up shtick or Owen-Foley level stuff or even Andre strutting (which is awesome). There was some shadow boxing, Dick flying out of the ring after getting outsmarted and some hiding the punches from the ref (which is awesome). It wasn't a jarring juxtaposition that made me laugh like Rude-Dingo stopping mid-match to have an arm wrestling contest.

This is bullshit. We didn't reject him because we expected him to be the best brawler of all time. We rejected him after watching a shit ton of matches and coming to the realization that the guy wasn't very good.
-
Or that. There is so much to celebrate in wrestling that I could never hear the name Benoit again and be perfectly happy as a wrestling fan.

Too many classic matches to ignore. Ten years ago, for Smarkschoice I thought he was worthy. After the DVDVR sets, he is even stronger. I don't know what footage explosion you are talking about that damages Kerry as a worker.

I just watched that match and I'll disagree with you. The comedy isn't fucking over the top. It is subtle and isn't really a focus as much as it is O'Connor outsmarting Dick in that run. Dick gets fed up and they start duking it out. I had no problem with it but I am really glad I got to watch the match. Raised the stock of both guys in my view.

We threw out the question on the show but should throw it out here... this is probably the best in-ring feud in WWF/WWE history. The way the story arced from technical title matches to violent, blood feud is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen unfold. Not one bad match in the bunch that we watched and talked about on the show.
-
I think it is sad that we are spending so much time on this guy when there are other guys we could be focusing on.
-
He isn't underrated for that time on top. The matches sucked, relied too much on garbage and screwjobs. When he was boss in TNA, we had his vision of what good wrestling is and it was crap. Great little Memphis run.
-
Did somebody actually nominate him or are you just posting wrestlers?
-
I think I would put AJ in my Top 750.
-
Jerry Lawler, Bill Dundee then everyone else.
-
Until they bring back blood or Ambrose gets his eye kicked in by a coked-up Pat Tanaka, I can't put Ambrose in the same category as Embry. Phil is probably right about the amount of top performances but Rich feels better. Plus, Embry wasn't on our Top 5 bleeders or featuring Donny in Alabama.
-
He had good-great performances in Memphis against Savage and Lawler including sweet tags with Bundy. Probably says more about Lawler and Savage carrying a very green Rude than it does about Rude. If you don't like the Rn'R vs. RNR matches then that is just a difference of opinion because I love all that shit. I also liked Rude in World Class but I seem to be in the minority on that one.

I watched the Cactus matches about 7 years ago when I picked them up from GB. Maybe longer? I watched almost every Memphis match/segment when putting together the yearbooks. Other promotions, I could walk away from. With Memphis footage, I was glued to the TV set. I watched the Funk matches when a compilation of Dylan Waco's favorite wrestler was being put together.

Way high on my list because of the strong performances on the AWA set. Wahoo vs. Bock is a legendary performance. The Hennig series is legendary. Man, I wish we had even more prime Bock out there.
