  2. Crimson Joe went conservative but that's fine. I'll go with some teams I think would have worked in any era ... - "Playboy" Buddy Rose, "Loverboy" Dennis Condrey and "Nature Boy" Buddy Landel - Adrian Street, Steven Regal and Billy Robinson - Dick Murdoch, Ron Garvin and Wahoo McDaniel (I could easily see this as being a team in late 1986. Did it ever happen?) - Sgt. Slaughter, John Cena and GI Bro - Bill Dundee, Crusher Blackwell and King Kong Bundy (Can you imagine chickenshit heel Dundee hiding behind these two mountains? I think it would be awesome)

    RAW 1000

The reason you should have faith in this heel turn is that Punk has proven he can be the most hated guy on the roster. During the Jeff Hardy feud, he played the role to near perfection. As leader of the Straight Edge Society, he was only getting cheers from a very small group but was also getting 1980s NWA Heat with little granny's yelling at him and people throwing shit at him as shown in the San Francisco handhelds. Punk as heel against the top guys should be pretty awesome.

    RAW 1000

Just got back from Disneyland. My buddy was keeping me updated and said the crowd was half cheers / half boos. Was it a complete heel turn?
  8. From project comments on Darsow's offense...
  9. I don't think anyone is arguing this. I know I'm not. Where you and I have a disconnect are in the quality of the matches, at least the ones I have watched. You love them. I think they have been merely ok with Darsow actively sucking. We may never be able to bridge that disconnect.
  10. WHAT IS IT!? This never got answered. It will when the set comes out Exactly. Trying to keep some shit a surprise. Was hoping this would disappear in all the talk of how fat Demolition are. Speaking of which, the point was not if they could wrestle but if the two wrestlers fit the gimmick. I mean, fuck, I love Bill Eadie. I pushed for his matches on the NJ set and the Mid South set. I am hoping he will pop up on the WWF set. However, the wrestler doesn't really fit the gimmick. Darsow as demon warlord really feels out of place. For instance, if U Warrior and Sting came into the WWF as Demolition, in the same make up and outfits, it really would have been an instance of two guys filling out the gimmick of Vince's vision of his two Road Warriors. There have to be more roided dudes from the 80s who could fill the gimmick. The problem with Demolition is that when they took off the masks, they just weren't as scary. Make sure we are keeping the two arguments separate. 1. Do the two wrestlers fit the gimmick / was it a cool gimmick? 2. Were they a good team / have great matches? You can think the two wrestlers were joke in the gimmick but still think they were a good team. Or you can think they were a cool team with shit matches. Or you can think they were a shit team with a shit gimmick. Or you can think they were a great team with a great gimmick. At this point, I think the gimmick was lame / Roadie ripoffs with wrestlers that didn't fit the costumes. It has nothing to do with the quality of matches for the most part. Maybe if you want to say that when they were trying to portray themselves as badasses but didn't wrestle like badasses, it hurt the matches. This is a valid argument. For me, the jury is still out on if they were a good team. The matches I have seen so far have not blown me away. Still, between Exposer, Kris Z and myself, we will watch every handheld, tv special, commercial tape, house show and compilation to make sure they get a fair shake in the 80s process. Right now though, I want to find more Moondogs vs. Garea/Martel matches.
  11. Jerry, watch Vision Quest.
  12. WRONG I agree with Vic. Demolition did not stink because of Bill Eadie.
  13. For the project, the Rockers match is nominated. May or may not make the set but not a lock. I didn't care for the MSG match so someone else will have to push it through. Need to rewatch the SS 88 match. At this point, what you and I consider great are on polar opposites so we may never remedy the situation. I found it laughable that someone thinks they are on equal footing with RNR and the MX much less every single team you listed. That just boggles my mind. I may have to lock this thread because we have reached a point where nothing productive can happen from this point forward (except the Loss super post if he chooses to do one).
  14. That is easy when you do not want to find it. This is bogus. We are actively searching for great matches. I dont waste my time looking for bad matches. From the matches we have watched, I wouldn't call any of them great. Still looking for one. Hell, we found an awesome Big John Studd match. We found Kamala's best match ever. We discovered a great series of Piper-Orndorff matches. I still have hope for Demolition.
  15. The "too fat" argument is a perception argument from watching them live when they actually wrestled. As a kid, after seeing the Road Warriors, it was hard to take them seriously when the Roadies were ripping shit up in Crockett. Hell, I hated Dick Murdoch and BuddyRose on my tv screen too when iwas a kid. I thought Murdoch was too fucking old and Rose was a fucking slob. As an adult, I have both firmly entrenched in my Top Ten wrestlers of all time. Still looking for the great Demolition match that was great because of Demolition. Too gay? Who made that argument? I get it with the bondage gear and S&M getup. Not really what was going through my mind when I was a kid. Too silly? I never made that argument. Hell, if Eadie and Cooley would have remained a team, I could see them on my current favorites list. Every matching have watched so far, Darsow has been a buzz kill but I think he is one of the worst wrestlers of the 80s.

  17. Johnny, I prefer you start as many threads as you want!
  18. Can't wait to listen to this.
  19. For what it's worth, the Rockers-Demo match has been nominated for the new WWF set but isn't a lock. I plan on watching it this summer.

  22. I don't know a fucking thing about trademarks. Explain these different classes to me.
  23. This is the thread to do just that. Keep the Kane conversation out of threads about other wrestlers.
  24. I LIKE ALL OF THESE MATCHES… The Rockers VS The Orient Express Royal Rumble 1991 - Excellent fast paced tag with plenty of big moves and keeping the crowd rocking the entire time. I am going to start working on the 1991 yearbook next month so I should have more to say then. April, 19, 1992 WWF World Champ Randy Savage pinned Shawn Michaels - Great match for Shawn in this period but it was Macho Man wrestling on one leg. Pretty easy to generate heat when you are attacking a one legged man but I give Shawn props here. 1993 WWF I-C Champ Shawn Michaels vs. Marty Jannetty Royal Rumble 1993 7/19/93 Shawn Michaels vs. Marty Jannetty - I really like this series… the break-up angle and the matches. What I enjoyed is that even though Shawn was clearly going to get the big push coming out of this, he actually allows Jannetty to play him as an equal as it should be for two tag partners who just broke up. I don’t think either should be considered MOTYCs for 1993 which was a loaded year match-wise but I think after working together for the past 6 years, they know each other well enough that their TV matches are almost always good. In the house show matches I have seen, not so good. A lot of headlocks from Shawn and laying around. WrestleMania X March 20, 1994 WWF I-C Champ Razor Ramon beat Shawn Michaels - I don’t penalize this match because better ladder matches came after it. Both guys broke out big spots, shit that just wasn’t being done at the time at a national level and it deserves its status as a legendary match. 10/30/94 Shawn Michaels/Diesel vs. Razor Ramon/123 Kid - My buddy Naylor loves this match. I enjoy it too but I think it loses some of its luster on repeated viewing. I don’t know how much credit you give to Shawn in this match but the thing I remember most is Nash laying down for the superkick for 6 minutes so he wouldn’t fuck the rest of the match up.
