  1. You decide... From this week's Observer... Well, on one hand, I don't blame him if he really needs the paycheck and bygones should be bygones. On the other, can you really believe Cornette has any conviction left? first Heyman, now Russo? Next... Ed Ferrara!!!
  2. One in the same. He was also Samoan Savage in WCW

  4. It is funny you should mention watching matches because I was telling Loss the other night that the only time I really get a chance to watch wrestling is when I am making my comps. That is one of the reasons I rely on suggestions and research in putting them together. However, sometimes, I have to do chores and watch the kids while making them so if I know a match is going to end in 30 minutes then I may come back 28 minutes later to stop the recording. Still, I have seen more wrestling while compiling the comps than if I never made them at all.
  5. To be fair, HBK looks small next to everyone else as well and always has. The real test for Punk will be his political skills.
  6. WWE TV only got its own disc because the VQ was subpar and putting it on a 4 hour disc would make it one giant blur. That is the only reason. On this current 2006 set, I am putting the TV matches separate as well as the Tim Noel handheld on a 2:30 disc. As for separating footage on the comps you are doing, I disagree with some of the points made and agree with others. For instance, I am against putting Flair's Mid South run on a Crockett set becasue while it may give you an idea of the touring champion, it doesn't really follow any NWA story arcs. I would argue the same thing for the Portland matches he wrestled. Those should go on a Portland set. However, if I was making a Flair comp, all of it would be fair game since the wrestler, not the territory, is the focus. The trick would be to make sure to include Crockett matches (for an example) that were shown on Japanese TV on the Crockett set. Those All Japan Classics have matches from the AWA, NWA and Florida mixed in with the All Japan matches. Just because it was shown on AJ Classics doesn't mean I would include it on an All Japan set. The exception would be when a certain belt is being defended. If Jumbo defends the AWA title against an All Japan wrestler then I see no reason why it should not go on an AWA set. I do agree that handhelds are fair game and should be included if they deserve merit. A good match is a good match and we aren't so far removed from the days of shitty 4th gen tapes that I can't sit through a decent handheld on a DVD full of Master VQ commerical matches.
  7. HEy John, if you look through the first few pages of this thread then you will see that Loss has done his fair share of commenting on matches.
  8. I enjoyed reading these posts but let me say this... The dilemmas you guys are discussing are the main reasons I tend to stick with comps of wrestlers.
  9. I htought about doing the same thing for 87-89 since that is what the Stampede I converted is heavy on.
  10. That's going to be a great project. Will, go and watch Atlantis vs. Dandy and make us anxious to get the DVD's. Total letdown. The entire thing goes less than ten minutes. This is a "lets progress the storyline" match... not a "let the wrestling tell the story" type of match. Do NOT be hyped up for this match.
  11. The Misawa-Morishima match was on March 5 and it wasn't until recently that Dave satrted hyping him.
  12. What's worse than Flair still showing up is that he can still deliver a promo better than 9/10 of the roster. He is also one of the few wrestlers that the crowd genuinely cares about. What does it say about McMahon's company when the only guy besides Cena who fans can respond to is a guy who should have retired for good in 1994. Seriously, the same situation happened with Nitro when Flair was in the highest rated segments, delivered the best promos and made the fans care more than any other talent on the roster.
  13. Dusty Rhodes- Dusty is a wierd one for me. I love his feud with Tully and all of the gimmick matches it produced. I think his best one-on-one match may be with Bob Backlund but I can't turn away from Big Dust when watching mid-80s Crockett. . Bob Backlund- I love Backlund. To think, he has had the best matches I have seen with Dusty Rhodes, Ken Patera, Ivan Koloff (singles match), Greg Valentine, Antonio Inoki (w/ possibly Vader challenging him), Buddy Rose, Adrian Adonis, Don Muraco (again, arguable), and Pat Patterson. Yet, the guy has so many people who hate his guts. I think my upcoming comp will show him in a favorable light which is the whole purpose of the comp. Dump Matsumoto- Just now picking up her stuff. A note to watch her and Jaguar over the holidays. Atlantis- One of my favorite luchadores. After I do the El Dandy set, I seriously have to look into doing an Atlantis primer. Do you hear that, Jose??? Jim Breaks- I have Famous Mortimer;s comp and I enjoy British wrestling but I still don't think I have seen enough of him to truly evaluate him. Sgt. Slaughter- I don't like him as much as Loss does. I'll have to talk to KHawk about some cjhoice AWA but after his singles matches with Sheik and Adonis, what else does he have? After his tag run against Steamboat and Youngblood, what else does he have as a tag wrestler? Adrian Adonis- I don't like him as much as Loss but his team with Murdoch was great. His team with Ventura was not so great. His Portland stuff was good but I think that is becasue him and Buddy Rose were great opponents for each other. CM Punk- Man, even with all the "MOTYCs", I think my favorite Punk experience was his Raven feud. The matches were dogs but I loved the interaction between the two. I still dig the Joe matches but is that because of Punk or Joe? Roddy Piper- No comment right now. Randy Savage- I am putting together a Savage comp as well but I think I may have over-rated him in the Smarkschoice poll. However, his best stuff is gold.
  14. Becuase it seems every company in Japan overlooks Joe. Even when he was putting on great matches as an ROH only guy, he was curtain jerking in Zero One.
  15. Let me add my enthusiasm in you getting those dates finished John. If you have holes to fill, I think we can look over Lynch's Mexio list and fill those dates in but since Bob's discs are not from week to week, it can be confusing.
  16. If you go home voluntarily, you don't collect your paycheck... but I agree with you
  17. OK, I know at the other board, we were allowed to download. What about here?
  18. I don't think Angle loses under any circumstances... maybe a double count out or double DQ.

  21. The most insane, awesomenest interview ever. Some highlights... His failed drug test was because he was injected with cortisone. WHen he looks at the TNA roster, he sees a ton of guys he can have 5 star matches with. He can't say the same thing about WWE. He had a part of the ten greatest matches in WWE. Pride offered him 30 million over 5 years. 1 million per match plus 3 million in endorsements each year (3 matches a year) UFC offered him 10 million for one match and to sit in the crowd at events. I a msure Bix or someone else can list more.

  24. Useless fact... wrestling is not cool. Talk to a teenager about wrestling and they will wince. Talk to them about UFC and their eyes light up.
  25. Well, the 3 disc comps have a disadvantage of covering less ground and just being "samplers". I originally designed the first 4 to be distributed for the smarkschoice poll but got more love for them at DVDVR and CM so I then started focusing on more complete comps. I really don't like rating them because someone might get the impression that since Rude is the "7th best" comp that it is inferior to something like Dibiase which was designed from a completely different mindset.
