  1. Man, I thought this poll and the Bret-Flair poll would be much closer. If I wasn't playing devil's advocate, it would have been 11-0 at last count. Damn, back to the drawing board.
  2. This is why I voted Rey. There is no arguing Eddy is usually a better character but I love to watch Rey "dance" in the ring.
  3. I actually chose Rey but I have also seen most of the best he has had to offer in Mexico. I also think that Rey is an incredible seller and has had just as many high end matches as Eddy. Trust me, this is like choosing between my children but I think history will look more fondly on Rey when all is said and done.
  4. Defend your pick!
  5. OK, I didn't word that properly... Guys like Kawada, Hansen, Vader, Misawa, Kobashi, etc. have all inflicted damge that hurts their opponent. When they go in the back, they are the walking wounded. Listento shoot interviews form the guys who wrked All Japan and they all say as much. In Foley's book, he tells the tale of Terry Funk punching him and it hurt like hell. Funk tells Mick something to the effect of "Awww, you just thought I was good or something". On the flipside you have guys like Bobby Eaton who had credible offense but in their shoot, the Fantastics say it was like bumping off a pillow. So, why I can see the argument that Eaton is a great worker, why do we heap praise on guys who are either careless (Hansen, Vader) or just notoriously stiff (Kawada, Dr Death), do end up injuring their opponents, but have great matches?
  6. On Dundee... Why? Before Tim mentioned him in another thread, I have never seen or heard anyone heap praise on Dundee. Now, I have seen people praise the Dundee-Lawler feud, but not on Dundee himself. As for Rey Mysterio... I buy Rey since he is so fast and so smooth that you really believe this guy is using his quickness to either frustrate the opponent until he gets caught slipping or to blow him up so Rey's cardio plays a role in how he gains the advantage. If we use Rey, I guess we could say the same thing about Waltman who was flirting in the land of the giants for a long time.
  7. Some Inoki love... the more NJ I watch, the more I like Inoki's matches. He's no Jumbo but who is? You know, this is a point to ponder... some people say the point of wrestling is to make it look real without actually hurting the guy (ie Bobby Eaton) and others say the point is to make it look real even if it hurts the opponent legit (ie Stan Hansen/ Kawada/ Vader). So which is it?
  8. I disagree strongly with that. I buy Benoit as a badass. I buy Eddie as a sneaky bastard. When Benoit goes against HHH Rock, Austin etc. , I believe he ahs a chance to beat any of them. When Eddie faced JBL or Big Show, Eddie's performance was so good that I did not roll my eyes, thinking to myself "this little guy can't hurt these giants". If you don't buy them as champions it is because of a lack of faith in the promotion, not the performers.
  9. I was with you until I saw you left Samoa Joe out.
  10. I think Rhino was a horrible choice to go over as their champion. As much as we like the fact that Jeff Jarrett is not their champ, at no point in time during his career (ECW, WWE, TnA) have I ever thought of Rhino as World Champion material. Monty Brown, Joe, and Abyss are all unknowns in the mainstream world that could have been inserted there and not had the stigma of being a WWE JTTS.
  11. I agree. I think pushing Gagne helped hasten the demise of the AWA as much as anything else. Embarassing physique... vanilla matches... unbelievable finisher.... ridiculous push. After watching the NWA guys and WWF guys destroy people who looked like Gagne week after week on TV, how in the hell can you take this guy seriously? Greg Gagne = Vernon Deaton/ Lee Peek/ Alan Martin I know nothing about him except he was in Florida. Why is he on your list? From a physical standpoint, Shane was ok. Still, seeing him take these joke bumps and appear two weeks later on TV without a cast or a scratch was horrible.
  12. I had to beat you because I feel you are doing us a disservice by not posting entire results
  13. Didn't see this coming...
  14. If you are going to mention Kevin Sullivan then there is no way you could exclude Bill Dundee... unless of course you put the two against each other.
  15. I liken this to any gimmick match that goes bad... live by the gimmick, die by the gimmick.
  16. Kendall Windham
  17. More spoilers...
  18. Ok, I am not buying... and after reading the spoilers... I am glad I am getting this on DVD in a few days and not shelling out 30 bones. So... courtesy of Meltz, here are the results so far... Spoilers.... Don't go further....
  19. DUH! Ok, well, you will have a better copy soon enough.
  20. How do you have that match? Also, I think it probably is just a phase. I don't know how long you were watching All Japan matches but after seeing them for so long, it can get mind numbing. After recording about 42 hours of NWA straight for a week, I didn't want to look at it again. Same thing for me and Memphis. You have the privilege of just kicking back and watching it at your discretion. When I transferred the last batch of Memphis, I was happy it was done... esp. since I couldn't just fast forward through horrible, horrible JD Costello interviews. With that said, I loved Dutch's interview about chewing tobaccy with Dundee and how hurt he was when Dundee betrayed him.
  21. More NWA goodness coming your way... Koloff & Murdoch vs. Garvin & Windham. 3-14-87 When I walked into the room, I was worried that Petrov would have been on the apron but it was a pleasant surprise to see Murdoch in all his evil splendor.
  22. RnR v Manny/Rude. They keep referring to themselves as R N R (Ragin' N Ravishin'). It ends in a DQ and sets up the title change.
  23. Tm, found another RNR vs. RNR match on the 12/14 WWW show. This was non-title and in front of a big crowd.
  24. Sure he did but he wrote several paragraphs on the RNR vs. RNR match and asked one Lanny Poffo question. No one commented on the RNR but everyone jumped in on Poffo. That depresses me.
