  1. To be fair, Tajiri had some decent success in the Fed for a guy his size. He was U.S. champion and tag champ with Eddie Guerrero.
  2. You must not have lived through the 80s.
  3. Any word on what what the big secret is?
  4. If you read closely you would know that Loss claimed I made a statement that I did not make. I was elaborating on a previous point while clearing up any confusion between me and Loss. It had nothing to do with you or your statements. I even agreed with your point if you read the thread. Once again, read the thread... Loss stated... Once again, referring to loss, not you.
  5. No, I didn't. I was talking about Punk being the hometown hero. There is no way you could know that was part of the story unless you heard commentary or knew where Punk was from. Ultimately, the story in the ring (the headlocks, the comebacks, etc,) are what makes the match. Plus, the fact that he is a hometown hero may be a proven formula but it doesn't guarantee the match will be good. Kurt Angle always gets a monstrous response in Pittsburgh but that doesn't always translate to a good match in the ring.
  6. Where did I say you couldn't tell who the babyface or underdog was?
  7. No, if you don't hear the announcers talk about Punk being from Chicago, mentioning that the match is in Chicago and then put "respected and dominant champion" into words then you would never know based on the actions in the ring. You would only know that the skinny white guy its trying to take down the bigger fat guy. If you want to put my description into play along with Kawada's then that would be more reasonable.
  8. I do not disagree with that statement except that tyour description deals more with what is going on outside the ring and mine deals with what is going on inside. There isn't anything too complicated about my paragraph that describes 3 matches.
  9. With Joe-Punk, watch all three matches in succession. It makes the 2nd one that much better. Also, where the hell do you guys get off syaing there is no emotion in the match? Who isn't showing any emoton? The Wrestlers? The fans? yourself? If it is you who are not connecting to the wrestlers then so be it but if you don't think there is any emotion in the crowd or the wrestlers themselves, you are blind. Anyway, in the first match, Punk threw out all he could and kept getting blasted by Joe's big move counters yet somehow was able to go the distance with him. Still, the work dragged in some places and was spotty as hell in others. Still a good match for the time involved. In the 2nd one, he works the headlock and actually gets the headlock over as a meaningful move in the year 2004 in an attempt to wear down Joe so he can actually connect with his big spots thinking that will put Joe down while not allowing Joe to hit his impact moves. So, in this match, you have Joe getting countered and when he finally hits his big moves, he takes over until Punk is able to ground him again. Then you hit your stretch run where Punk tries to put Joe down knowing he is in a race against the clock. In the 3rd and final match, Punk gets busted open early and it is a war of attrition as Joe sees blood and capitalizes and Punk triesto defy the odds but ultimately realize that it is a futile effort as Joe just destroys Punk. Pretty effective storytelling to me.
  10. THe truth is I have watched so little WWE TV over the last few years I couldn't even tell you what she looks like.

  12. You should tell us about it. The short version: Parsons was teaming with various Von Erichs against the Freebirds. These two would get paired up in singles matches culmiinating in a hair vs. hair match in which Buddy Roberts lost so Roberts ended up wearing a wig and headgear ala Kurt Angle.
  13. No lie, my uncle (by marriage) looked like friggin David Manning.. and gasp... his name was Dave!
  14. There is no way in hell Bronco Lubich (sic?) is still alive. He could be but I wouldn't bet on it. While you were receiving your WCCW from KZ, I have been converting a ton of footage from 1982-84. I was going to cut them up and make comps from the comps but there is no need. Even the sub-par matches have a purpose and are worth watching in the grand scheme of things. Hell, one of the most entertianing feuds going on at the time was Iceman King Parsons vs. Buddy Roberts and neither is what I would label as a phenomenal worker.
  15. Disc 2 is complete. RIght now, I am guessing it will be between 5-6 discs.
  16. I think part of that was also the suicide of a buddy of his.
  17. Eh... I think at this point, ROH could put Ric Flair against Ricky Steamboat from their primes in the ring and you would still dislike the product so there is no point in arguing.
  18. In defense of the "This is awesome" chant.... I think the atmosphere and experience of seeing Kobashi in the ring against one of ther favorites inspired the chant not because they were witnessing a great match 2 minutes in. I can't believe so many people miss that and assume the fans are referring to the quality of the match itself.
  19. No problem. What I plan on doing is giving the discs to sek and Loss for sure to distribute if they are willing to make the copies. From there, you would talk to them about how you can obtain a copy. Preferably, they only ask people to cover shipping and disc cost but I can't guarantee that. It would also be great if someone else could help distribute as well. So, I'll provide the footage but I need someone to do the leg work.
  20. For ROH, the best worker now is clearly Bryan Danielson. At the beginning of the year you could make the argument for James Gibson, Punk, Danielson and to a lesser extent Joe. For TNA, I have a bunch of shows that I have been collecting but I have not really watched anything. For WWE, the best workers were clearly Eddie and Rey when working together this year. Now? I wouldn't know where to look. I can't honestly say who the best talkers are because I haven't watched too many complete shows. I watch matches here and there from TNA, watch my favorites go to work in ROH and watch the EJ comps for WWE but do not actually sit through the skits and the silliness that comes along with it.
  21. Meltzer was one of them.
  22. I don't think a private ballot will prevent you from posting who you voted for.

  24. Fuck it, I'll stand up as the ROH apologist and take on your guys' points as best as I can... This is simply a matter of perspective, and something I will address later in something Loss said. One of the reasons I like ROH as a whole is because I actually see guys who look like they give a shit what their fans want. Whether they actually pull this off or not is another story. Compare that with WWE that seems to back their way into a good match or story. I thought the Three-way from the very first show was a beautiful match. Between that and Dragon-London, probably the best of the year. Every single sequence in that match made sense. Every move was executed flawlessly. Mix in a little comedy and each wrestler playing their roles perfectly and I am a happy camper. With the exception of the ending, I think it smokes the WM20 Three-way. As for Punk-Joe, if you didn't like the feud or the matches, I really do not know what you expect out of a wrestling match. I agree with you because I don't really enjoy scrambles or alot of the garbage matches that ROH includes but this kind of bothers me about some of your criticisms. People are complaining that ROH matches all try and be a MOTY but if you look at their cards, they usually have a little bit of something for everyone. There is usually a comedy moment mixed in (CSC, Colt Cabana, RIng crew Exprress, Ebessan). They try to approach the Pure Title differently than the World title. If you're an ECW mutant, they have had plenty of those "hardcore" moments. They have the spotfests, the ROH main event style that you guys tend to criticize and are now attemting to move into a Southern style. Whether they can actually pull that off remains to be seen. What I have seen alot of here is over-generalizing. With Loss, I can understand becuase I sent him comps of ROH and not complete shows so he has a limited perspective. For the rest of you, you don't really have ground to stand on here. This was also a criticism of NJ Juniors of the 90s. I agree to some extent except if those 100lb kids are fighting other 100lb kids, I don't see the problem. What kills me, and this is a criticism of ROH, is when they have these kids go toe-to-toe with the "Main eventers". I agree. The biggest problem here is that the announcing is recorded later while a couple of guys are watching the matches in the studio. This is also a reason why you hear the constant pimping of MOTY!!! Usually, people on their message board and DVDVR are already pimping the matches so the annoucners are just reinforcing a belief that people that buy their product already believe. As for the emotional investment, I think any genuine emotion while watching the match was probably spent when watching it live. Agreed 100%. But lets get some perspective here. WWE crowds will do the same thing. WCW crowds used to be scary silent when our favorite cruisers or Netgods were wrestling their hearts out but then go batshit for Luger vs. Hogan. So, is it the promotion's fault for not feeding the fans what they want or the fans' fault for not appreciating a good match? I think all promotions suffer through this. Let me think of a few examples where the listing for a big show was just screwy. What do you mean by this? Eh, I disagree with this. There is enough bad wrestling in the world where you do not have to include shit matches on a card for someone to know what a good or bad match is. I think this was also the purpose of our Creat-a-Card project from awhile back. You can costruct a great card from top to bottom while offering different styles and plenty of variety without dipping into negative stars. Tell us what you really think. But seriously... you didn't really elaborate on anything so I won't bother to respond. I only want to know what match you actually saw that was pimped as *****.
