  1. Titles in wrestling have very little value as it is, but it still irks me to see them outright being devalued. There wasn't any real reason to put it on HHH if it was going right back to Orton. What' so hard about Vince telling HHH he only gets his title shot if he beats Umaga? HHH/Orton still goes down in the ME, and HHH has the excuse of already having worked a match in the evening as to at least partially why he lost.
  2. Lacey vs. Daizee Haze from the first SHIMMER show. Anyone who's only seen Lacey doing the loudmouth manager shtick in ROH needs to see this yesterday. Really good stuff, with Lacey pulling out all kinds of brutal ways to dish out punishment, and Haze doing a great job with her selling, and then making a great comeback (with a better Yakuza kick that Chono) and pulling out the win.
  3. For the last two months, my sister in law and I have been having this argument. I keep telling her that Cena is on something, and she insists up and down that he's not. Because he's not juiced up like Batista, and he didn't get named in the sting. Needless to say, after today, she's not up to arguing anymore.
  4. "He kicked him in the Uterus!" - Bobby Heenan
  5. So it's already confirmed that Misawa's first ROH match will be Misawa/KENTA vs. Morishima/Marufuji, and rumor has it that night two will be Misawa/KENTA for the GHC. So ROH is shelling out huge money (and charging huge ticket prices) for two matches that could easily happen in NOAH, rather than showcasing their own talent in some form. Maybe I'm just overly cynical with ROH, but does anyone else get the idea that only reason Misawa was even booked was so that Gabe could get the ego boost/bragging rights of saying he got to book Misawa?
  6. Well Impact going to two hours will solve all of TNA's problems . Now that Impact is cramming two hours worth of booking and matches in to a one hour show, does anyone really expect them to slow down and *not* try to cram 4 hours worth of stuff into a two hour show?
  7. Yeah, unless NOAH wants to shock everyone by putting the strap on Joe, don't bank on Marufuji being champion. There's almost zero chance of NOAH running a Budokan with a poor draw vs. a 1st time outsider on top.
  8. Maybe it's just been too long since I've seen him, but did anyone else think that Rey looks to have put some weight on when he came back last night?
  9. Maybe I'm just too cynical, but ROH, the company that's supposed to be all about the great wrestling and classic matches, charging people that much to see someone who's frankly less than a shell of his former self at this point in his career seems like a con.
  10. Would ROH Charging $100 a pop for tickets to the NYC show with Misawa be considered a con, considering that at this stage in his career he's so broken down that he's little more than a Japanese Scott Steiner.
  11. Isn't Spike TV helping TNA pay the big names like Sting, Christian, and Angle?
  12. Watts says that they told him to keep the losses under a million, and he cut them down to about $400,000.
  13. I was watching a clip of the Team 3D shoot on Youtube, and when they got talking of Bubba's rep as a bully, he started talking about how he could put a match together better than an agent who was never anything special and never drew a dime. Does anyone know offhand whom he's referring to? I was thinking Johnny Ace at first, but I don't think he had a hand in putting matches together. And the only other agents I know of (AA, Steamboat, and Hayes) all were something special and did put asses in seats.
  14. I have to admit that I marked out a bit for the IRS cameo.
  15. The exact JR quote from BTM that Cody referenced is "I could care less who wins, I could care less who loses. As long as we've got an ass every 18 inches, I'm a happy man."
  16. Surely Gabe thought that Ricky Marvin would pack the house, and if he hadn't gotten hurt, then BxB Hulk would have made ROH millions!
  17. Vince Russo conned WCW into thinking he was the sole reason that the WWF was able to turn the tide in the Monday Night War.
  18. And it ends at $637
  19. Rick Rude's famous Raw/Nitro appearance, and he was still popping up on ECW TV as well.
  20. He was just the first name that popped into my head, since I'd just watched the Steamboat/Youngblood vs. Slaughter/Kernodle cage match. Would Dory Funk Jr. or Jack Brisco be a better comparison?
  21. I may get a little heat for this comment: But I like Necro for more or less the same reasons I like John Cena. Neither of them is Ricky Steamboat for basic wrestling, but they're both good at laying out a match and sticking to the story.
  22. Anyone who points to Joe/Punk II as an example of how to work a headlock and make a match interesting needs to see Steamboat and Youngblood in this match. They're never lazy about it, and always find creative ways to either apply it, or work back to it. I loved the spot early on when Kernodle almost made the tag and Steamer just yanked him back and grabbed the headlock. There were a bunch of other nice touches as well, Slaughter saving Kernodle from the charging Steamboat (?) and having him go face first into the cage. Steamboat and Youngblood had a nice blind tag. And Crockett's reaction to Slaughter coming off the top was priceless. I do agree about the ref pushing Sarge back to the corner though, it really wasn't warranted at all. It'd work if the heels had been pushing him or something, but all Sarge did was just alert him to the pin going on.
  23. This was my first look at the Dirty White Boys, they seemed like a solid team. I'd have liked to see a bit longer match, but both teams did pretty well with what they had. And the one thing I always liked about Mid South/UWF TV Main Events was all the hype about how there was only so much TV time left, it was a great tool to help get the TV audience into the match.
  24. Wow. . . . five years of hindsight really do put a different spin on that.
  25. He's calling himself Resident Evil in these here parts.
