Why must you hate on BxB Hulk, Dave? Hating on DG guys I'm a fan of aside, it was an interesting listen, and I hope Bix does make this a regular thing.

Is there a more loathsome personality on wrestling TV than Mike Tenay?
MikeCampbell replied to Bix's topic in Pro Wrestling
I loved him in his early WCW days, because he was the only commentator who really knew a lot about the business, and especially with WCW bringing in so many new faces. -
I'd say it's normal to an extent. Most people like to visit graves and talk to their loved ones, but given Benoit's road schedule it's not like he could swing by there any time.

In the Benoit thread over at DVDVR one poster brought up a very good point, and, honestly, I've actually spent the bulk of my morning running errands with it floating in the back of my mind. Many wrestling fans have feelings of utter contempt for Invader I for what happened to Brody, and similar feelings for Russo and McMahon over Owen Hart (and yes, I'm well aware of the vast difference in those two situations). If it's concluded that Nancy and Daniel were in fact killed by Chris, before suicide. Will that change how we, as wrestling fans view Benoit?

WON awards front-runners for the first half of the year

I'd definitely not call Khali fat. He's the only wrestler over 7-feet tall that I've seen who looks in half-decent shape. -
If the next ROH show or ROH PPV is called "A Night Of Tribute II" then count me in for a 'Fuck You, Gabe'

Benoit misses Vengeance due to family emergency
MikeCampbell replied to sek69's topic in Pro Wrestling
If the WWE did, in fact, want a heel ECW champion, then they're first order of business should have been booking one of the heels to win the qualifying matches on ECW TV. Not too sharp, that one. -
Are ROH & TNA at the lowest level of buzz in their histories?
MikeCampbell replied to Bix's topic in Pro Wrestling
I actually have to give ROH credit for making the Delirious push work out so well and get over with fans as good as it has. And uber props to Danielson for the 5/13 match more or less putting him on that level. Strong was almost at that level in late '05 early '06 but then they spent most of '06 with him as Aries' sidekick, and now he's really not much above what he was in 04, simply part of the group. I remember back when everyone was positive that he was the one to take the belt of Danielson. -
Are ROH & TNA at the lowest level of buzz in their histories?
MikeCampbell replied to Bix's topic in Pro Wrestling
I think part of the problem with ROH is the loss of Joe, Aries, 'Cide, and Daniels. But also it's sort of becoming 'exposed' to a certain degree that ROH is still below WWE and TNA in terms of exposure. Everyone made a big deal about ROH 'turning the corner' and getting on PPV. But they're PPV model isn't vastly different than what the territories and what Japan did for years in the 80's and 90's with their TV. Edited down versions of a full show, and then the full show released later (that being the case in Japan with major shows). Not that it isn't smart for them to do it that way, because it is, but at the same time, it's a far cry from the same sort of PPV scale that WWE and TNA have to work with. -
What's the source of that little article, Bix? The Wiki entry on Powerteam USA lists Dave Sheldon (AOD) as being part of the group.

I was having an e-mail conversation with J.D. Dunn concerning The Black Scorpion, specifically his comment that Al Perez was supposed to be the Scorpion. I'd always heard it was Perez on the first night, but was supposed to be The Angel Of Death, which he said made sense since AOD was part of Power Team USA with Sting and Warrior. This got me thinking, who was the fourth member of the group and did they do anything notable in the business?

I don't know how much ECW you've got, Loss, but I'd love to see either the match where Dreamer "blinds" Sandman (IMO the angle that really started ECW's hot period) or one of Raven's earlier appearances in ECW. -
DVD #1: Sting/Steamboat/Windham/Rhodes vs Rude/Arn/Eaton/Zbyszko
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in DVD Discussion
I liked this alright, but it was what it was. Anyone familiar with any of these guys, with the angles surrounding this, and with the Southern Tag formula could probably tell you how this was going to go. Not that I think it was bad or anything, especially with all the good workers, there just wasn't much that stood out for me, aside from Arn's fake tags, Rude's selling of the Atomic Drop, and the angle afterwards where Rude lays out Steamboat. -
DVD #1: Fabulous Freebirds "Badstreet USA" Music Video
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in DVD Discussion
The Jimmy Garvin cameo was rather cool, but there was far too little wrestling in the video for my liking. Although the little bit shown was cool, almost makes me long for a Freebirds/Von Erichs comp. -
This was just a boatload of fun, I remember being pissed when I first heard about it happening, because I didn't have cable at the time, and even at age 11, I knew it would be awesome. I didn't get much audio thanks to my fiance watching Interview with the Vampire in the other room and ignoring my pleas of "Turn it down!" But the match itself was tons of fun, with both guys playing their roles very well.

I wasn't literally comparing Hogan to Batista, I was just simply giving my opinion on what sort of role I'd see Hogan playing had he come along in 2004. And yes, Hogan does probably kill Batista for actual in-ring work. But Hogan would still be coming along at a time when the pendulum in the business was swinging toward a greater emphasis on being an athlete and good wrestler. I think this is rather debatable too. It wasn't like Hogan was toiling in the AWA with no hope of ever breaking out. And Hogan's initial run in WCW was a fresh face and fresh matches for the company. Compare the buyrates of Bash at the Beach and Halloween Havoc '94 to that of Starrcade '94 (Hogan/Flair for the former - Hogan/Beefcake for the latter) and it sort of hints that Hogan's freshness was already waning. Hollywood Hogan in the nWo was definitely a much needed shot in the arm, but he also wasn't around all the time. A few promos and maybe an occasional Nitro match, and then his PPV shots.

I have to agree as well that the big thing was the timing of it. Even more so considering the general smart markedness of the wrestling world in 2004. He's probably wind up being regarded much like Batista. Very over due to good booking, and he's kill Big Dave on the mic. But his lack of ability in the ring would wind up being a big hindrance.

Vince could bring Sid into ECW to rid ECW of Bobby Lashely.

One Night Stand was the first WWE PPV I've caught since WrestleMania, and I'm about a month behind on my RAW watching. When I was watching the RVD/Orton match, my first thought was "When did Orton learn how to sell?" Was this just a one off, or is Orton actually getting better?

The Ric Flair/Ted DiBiase NWA Title match from Mid South, with the Dick Murdoch angle. The Rock 'n' Roll Express vs. Tully/Arn for the NWA Tag Titles, when the horseman win the belts. Tully/Arn vs. Windham/Luger, when Barry turns on Luger and joins the Horsemen (the match that should have been on the WWE DVD) -
Sid Vicious' weapons of choice are a squeegee and safety scissors. Ric Flair wishes he was Paul Roma.

I actually found high school to be sort of fun from a wrestling fan perspective. Because when I was younger I'd routinely get picked on for liking wrestling. But in '98 or so when it started gaining steam, everyone and their brother suddenly wanted to be my buddy and bullshit with me about it.

The problem with wrestling nowadays is that it's *so* different from what we watched as kids. I think the worse thing you'd see in wrestling those days was a fireball, or maybe the word "ass" being spouted off. I recall the Big Bossman being bleeped for saying during a promo about Nailz. If my kids love wrestling, I'd treat it the same way my parents did. They let me have my fun with it, and bought me the magazines, action figures, video games, tapes, etc. But also making damn sure that I understood that I only watch it, nothing I tried to do anywhere (Except in the basement on my WWF Wrestling Buddy).
