  1. Anyone who points to Joe/Punk II as an example of how to work a headlock and make a match interesting needs to see Steamboat and Youngblood in this match. They're never lazy about it, and always find creative ways to either apply it, or work back to it. I loved the spot early on when Kernodle almost made the tag and Steamer just yanked him back and grabbed the headlock. There were a bunch of other nice touches as well, Slaughter saving Kernodle from the charging Steamboat (?) and having him go face first into the cage. Steamboat and Youngblood had a nice blind tag. And Crockett's reaction to Slaughter coming off the top was priceless. I do agree about the ref pushing Sarge back to the corner though, it really wasn't warranted at all. It'd work if the heels had been pushing him or something, but all Sarge did was just alert him to the pin going on.
  2. This was my first look at the Dirty White Boys, they seemed like a solid team. I'd have liked to see a bit longer match, but both teams did pretty well with what they had. And the one thing I always liked about Mid South/UWF TV Main Events was all the hype about how there was only so much TV time left, it was a great tool to help get the TV audience into the match.
  3. Wow. . . . five years of hindsight really do put a different spin on that.
  4. He's calling himself Resident Evil in these here parts.
  5. Sabin worked the AJPW Jr. League, and aren't Brute Issei and Akira Raijin up in Canada training with some TNA people?
  6. "Abuse of power! You suck! You are a no-good sonofabitch!" - Ric Flair
  7. Saving up to get married next year has put a huge strain on m finances, so I'm rather limited in my 2007 viewing, but I can only think of a couple guys offhand that I dislike more than him in DG. Note to Spunk: When you and Doc were going at it last year on HWL over who's better Saito or Necro, you pretty much nailed it.
  8. I totally forgot about the GPWA. Have they done anything since the 3rd Differ Cup?
  9. Dave may be pre-facing by not trying to be a dick, but I won't, because ROH have been dicks to me many times. And most folks here who know me (Dave, Loss, Gordi, etc. can vouch that I'm not a dick) I hope the Japan shows *do* fall flat on their face, so maybe Gabe and Cary will realize that they and ROH aren't god's gift to wrestling.
  10. You pimped this, and not the vastly better Kondo/Nakajima match from the same show?
  11. I watched the Dragon Gate 12/22/06 PPV a few nights back. I've heard a lot of folks pimping the Mochizuki/Ryo Saito main event, in the king of gate finals. And after watching the match, I must ask why? It was full of the same stupid no-selling and delayed selling that you'd find in big Kobashi matches and late '90's AJPW main events. I've never been a fan of Ryo Saito, but I try to give him a fair shake, and matches like these keep reminding me why I don't like him.
  12. Such as............
  13. The last few matches from Japan that I've really enjoyed all seem to have Shuji Kondo involved.
  14. Why must you hate on BxB Hulk, Dave? Hating on DG guys I'm a fan of aside, it was an interesting listen, and I hope Bix does make this a regular thing.
  15. I loved him in his early WCW days, because he was the only commentator who really knew a lot about the business, and especially with WCW bringing in so many new faces.
  16. I'd say it's normal to an extent. Most people like to visit graves and talk to their loved ones, but given Benoit's road schedule it's not like he could swing by there any time.
  17. In the Benoit thread over at DVDVR one poster brought up a very good point, and, honestly, I've actually spent the bulk of my morning running errands with it floating in the back of my mind. Many wrestling fans have feelings of utter contempt for Invader I for what happened to Brody, and similar feelings for Russo and McMahon over Owen Hart (and yes, I'm well aware of the vast difference in those two situations). If it's concluded that Nancy and Daniel were in fact killed by Chris, before suicide. Will that change how we, as wrestling fans view Benoit?
  18. I'd definitely not call Khali fat. He's the only wrestler over 7-feet tall that I've seen who looks in half-decent shape.
  19. If the next ROH show or ROH PPV is called "A Night Of Tribute II" then count me in for a 'Fuck You, Gabe'
  20. If the WWE did, in fact, want a heel ECW champion, then they're first order of business should have been booking one of the heels to win the qualifying matches on ECW TV. Not too sharp, that one.
  21. I actually have to give ROH credit for making the Delirious push work out so well and get over with fans as good as it has. And uber props to Danielson for the 5/13 match more or less putting him on that level. Strong was almost at that level in late '05 early '06 but then they spent most of '06 with him as Aries' sidekick, and now he's really not much above what he was in 04, simply part of the group. I remember back when everyone was positive that he was the one to take the belt of Danielson.
  22. I think part of the problem with ROH is the loss of Joe, Aries, 'Cide, and Daniels. But also it's sort of becoming 'exposed' to a certain degree that ROH is still below WWE and TNA in terms of exposure. Everyone made a big deal about ROH 'turning the corner' and getting on PPV. But they're PPV model isn't vastly different than what the territories and what Japan did for years in the 80's and 90's with their TV. Edited down versions of a full show, and then the full show released later (that being the case in Japan with major shows). Not that it isn't smart for them to do it that way, because it is, but at the same time, it's a far cry from the same sort of PPV scale that WWE and TNA have to work with.
  23. What's the source of that little article, Bix? The Wiki entry on Powerteam USA lists Dave Sheldon (AOD) as being part of the group.
  24. I was having an e-mail conversation with J.D. Dunn concerning The Black Scorpion, specifically his comment that Al Perez was supposed to be the Scorpion. I'd always heard it was Perez on the first night, but was supposed to be The Angel Of Death, which he said made sense since AOD was part of Power Team USA with Sting and Warrior. This got me thinking, who was the fourth member of the group and did they do anything notable in the business?
