  1. Hahahahaha!
  2. Very true about the look and entrance. I still want Brody to be awesome based on that look and entrance and then am let down whenever I watch a match hahaha! Its interesting to think about how things might have been different if Hamada had been given the mask instead of Sayama. What does that mean for UWF 1.0?
  3. Brody won Best Brawler every year until 1986 (Hansen won) and then he won 87 and 88! They literally did think Brody was better back in the day. It had to be the athleticism? Meltzer and those types of fans were moves and athleticism marks back then. So it had to be the ring entrance + size + dropkicks right?
  4. Please let it be real. I'm not putting up with him ruining another project for 5 years
  5. Would you just fuck off already you pompous asshole.
  6. To anyone following along, you're allowed to like different things no matter what anyone says or how anyone acts. There isnt an expectation that everyone participating knows everything and has seen everything and will like everything. That's why we're talking so much about helping each other on our paths of discovery. I'm happy to help Danny learn about classic Joshi and I know OJ will put the time in helping me learn about Jim Londos etc etc. Nothing is written in stone. If you think Okada is better than Ric Flair. That's ok. Not everyone will agree with you but you won't be disparaged and you won't be talked down to just because someone disagrees with you or is approaching their fandom from a different point of view. I dont care if you like modern indies, french stuff, 80s WWF, whatever and I dont care if you're 18 or if you're 60. Everyone will be treated with respect.
  7. WHAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW OMFG HAHAHAHAHA! Yessssssssss.
  8. Wait...Ashura Hara looked like that in the 70s? You're blowing my mind right now... Ok adding 70s and early 80s Ashura Hara to my list of stuff to watch for sure. Big fan of his 80s and early 90s stuff. This is exciting. GWE 2026 Baby!
  9. Wait...Ashura? I will make a real effort to watch the WoS folks this time around instead of looking at a few things here and there. I could see some of them being on Jaguar's level. I'm really thinking of her in comparison to fellow Japanese and US workers. Lucha is harder to say because we don't have as clear a picture of that era until 84 which is mid 80s not early 80s My goals are: close any gaps completely on classic 70s-90s Joshi get a grasp of women's wrestling from 2003-present. 50s US Golden Era European stuff.
  10. Preach it El-P
  11. . So awesome that you went from wondering if you'll participate to apparently deciding that you will (to everyone's disappointment) and then start bashing the project before it even starts. Great. Just what everyone was hoping would happen.
  12. Oh, ha! El-P beat me to it.
  13. Oh I'm fairly sure Jumbo would still make my top 25. So I'm not dismissing him. Jaguar was just ahead of her time. She wasn't just light years ahead of Jumbo she was light years ahead of everybody. I also think the best stretch of Jumbo's career came when Jaguar was retired in 86-92. So its not a totally fair comparison.
  14. I agree. And... OOoooh there's enough Londos????? Please walk through the Londos case at some point during the project! No need to get into details now, we have time. I've always been really interested when reading about him as a historical figure. I really love the Bronko match. So that is an exciting name to see! Jaguar is someone who will be in my top 10 still. Its funny with the Jumbo talk happening. When I watch Jaguar Yokota is really blows up the idea that Jumbo was a best in the world contender until later in his career. Watch Jaguar and Jumbo side by side and its clear who's operating at a completely different level.
  15. Hahaha same.
  16. El-P is right. Bryan will win this year. Probably 2036 as well. OJ, who are some of the people you're considering for #1?
  17. Jaguar Yokota debuted June 1977 at age 15, was the best in the world by 20 and had already trained some of the greatest generation of wrestlers by 25.
  18. Invader 1 I see as like a top 20 candidate. I'm not sure where Chicky will be, but I have him as a lock.
  19. I wasn't very clear with what I meant. Basically I'm wondering maybe we should look at what Cornette was doing too. I'm not trying to negate Eaton's case at all. I'm saying hey there's a 3rd part to this act and maybe we should look at that too even if he wasn't "in the ring." In 2016 I would have been like "No, they're managers." Now I'm looking at people like Cornette, Heenan, Jimmy Hart, Sherri Martel and wondering if their work as managers should add something to their individual cases. Absolutely judge Eaton on his own merits. I'm wondering if these managers need to be judged on their own merits too and if its worth being on a list. I've said before that stuff like Dump Matsumoto's entrances being these incredible spectacles that set the tone of her matches play a role in how I view her case for a top 100 list . Shouldn't Cornette's or Jimmy Hart's in match interplay count for something too? I'm curious if other people are open to that. Not that Cornette is the real reason Eaton was great or whatever.
  20. Counterpoint: Use this project as an excuse to check out that stuff you've always meant to but never got around to.
  21. I think this is at its core the point of the project. To talk about the people we like and discover new favorites. I'm not budgeting any time for negativity.
  22. I'm kinda waiting for Grimmas to hit the start button with the release of the podcasts before I go creating a million new threads. But one of the things I thought would be useful was having threads for each style or genre where folks could highlight the important people to watch for people trying to close a blindspot. Say someone is completely new to 80s territory wrestling and has never even seen a Ric Flair match. If they come in and say "Hey, can people recommend some stuff" and I drop in like "Check out this Buck Robley match, its dope" that's not helpful. Now, the Robley match probably was dope, but I need to be highlighting the Flair, BOckwinkel, Lawler, Ricky Morton types before we get to Robley or Chris Adams to pick another name that is awesome but isn't a top tier candidate to prioritize right away if you're coming to this style fresh. That's pretty much how I'll be approaching the French stuff. I think I've seen 5 total French matches. I want to make learning about what to prioritize within your blindspots super easy for everyone. So I'll happily point people in the right directions for classic Joshi or 80s Japanese wrestling because I know people will do the same for me for French stuff or WoS.
  23. "It depends" will become my catch phrase by 2026 I bet. I've always been of the opinion that I learned just about all I needed to about The Destroyer in the '69 Baba match. Like if there was only one other Destroyer match and it was terrible, I'd still know he was an amazing wrestler because of what he showed in that Baba match. Obviously this isn't the case with Destroyer as we have a bunch of other footage and know its awesome. I'd have to watch the French stuff to have a better idea of where I stand. I think its a little easier with someone like Johnny Valentine for example because although the footage of him is limited, I can watch a ton of 60s and 70s US & Japanese wrestling and get an idea of the world he worked in. The little bit of French stuff I've seen is so radically different from US or Japanese stuff from the same time period it makes it harder to judge without a proper deep dive. But to Phils point, if you feel like its wrong to leave out Tony Oliver you should include him! Or at least highlight him so we can watch him and make that judgement for ourselves. I reeeeally want to vote for Johnny Valentine stupidly high based on like 3 matches. So give me the Tony Oliver hahaha!
  24. Looking forward to your series, Danny!
  25. Anyone else super excited for WrestleMania week entirely because Grimmas is launching GWE 2026?
