  4. Another problem in early 2000's NOAH that was going to bite them in the ass was the main proteges for the 3 of the Four Corners (because Taue was on his own pretty much) were Jr's who weren't going to grow into natural heavyweights. Misawa = Marufuji Kobashi = KENTA Akiyama = Kanemaru The two biggest prospects they had was Morishima & Rikio so of course they put them together as a team who while a dominant team as Wild II they didn't get the rub as being a protege of the top guys like those guys did themselves in the late 80's - early 90's. They got the message about the middle of the decade by putting Rikio with Akiyama but the business was starting to decline anyway. Shiozaki & Sugiura then grew up to be heavies after the decline started and they weren't dynamic enough to propel business so it was hard for them. Misawa dying plus the fact that wrestlling as a whole went down popularity wise has been hard to overcome.
  5. Flair was living like this in WWE as well but he had people there that would pull him out of situations like this. He doesn't have Trips, Dave, HBK, Cena, Orton, or whoever would run with him post shows in TNA to help him.
  6. New Japan had something in Nagata in 2001 but CroCop ended that although Nagata has done well for himself over the years but he was ready for the moon in 01.
  7. To show you how much attention gets paid to RAW, they talked about how Edge/Orton vs. Miz/Ziggler should be the SD main event but it would probably be a dark match.....well they clearly announced on RAW that the match was the SD main event.
  8. Hogan working TV was kinda special at the time especially for those who didn't have access to MSG, PRISM, NESN, and the like you could say.
  9. Here's where House show stuff played into things. Hogan/ Muraco was a HUGE program at MSG. It followed the typical three match formula at MSG, but for those of us on the East Coast who got MSG network and the local promos, Hogan/ Muraco was a major fued. Seriously, local promos for this had Muraco/ Hogan as THE major fued of the year. And then it seemed to us the blow off match was on SNME, where Bundy attacked Hogan. And then Muraco got Orndorff at Mania 2 in a match me and my pals thought was gonna rule and it stunk. When was the last Muraco-Hogan match in MSG? Who was Muraco feuding all around the WWF at the point of the SNME match, and had been for a while (set up by a rather famous SNME angle the prior year). Muraco-Hogan was long over, and blown off in MSG in a cage match. If it ran in other cities, it had long since been blown off. The SNME match wasn't a Big Match. It was recycling an old opponent of Hogan's to use as a base for a Major Angle: Hogan-Bundy. John Muraco was still feuding with Steamer.
  10. Bill Simmons on UFC in his chat today
  11. And the thing is, WWE is in really good shape financially and if you go back there were WAY worse periods than this one but you couldn't tell by listening to them. God forbid if UFC starts going downhill which I think will start this year.
  12. The main event of the SNME shows pretty much always took place in the 12:00 AM quarter.
  13. Listening to Dave talk about wrestling lately on the shows with Chico is a buzzkill for wrestling. He sounds so depressed to talk about it and I know some of the WWE booking isn't great but they really go out of their way to point out flaws. They also misunderstand quite a bit of the booking as well especially the Mason Ryan debut where they had no idea what the finish was supposed to be when it was obvious to just about everyone that Punk wanted to get Cena DQed plus put himself up for a sacrifice for his NEXUS.
  14. I think that says it all right there. Time makes you grow fonder in many ways and it colors your judgement on whether stuff was better or worse than present day.
  15. Patty Mullen was only around because Flair fucked her.
  16. This is fantastic
  17. No one man can come up with the greatest list. There needs to be a consensus among a panel. It's just that simple.
  18. Just finished recording F4D with Dr. Lucha and there is lots of IWRG/Black Terry pimping on the show by yours truly but I am mad at myself for forgetting to ask Chico about the Pierroth/Cuban Assassin footage.
  19. Mistico is the wrestler to watch in 2011 because there is some real mutual interest between him & WWE and it's going to be really interesting to see how EMLL books him during this time period and if he does leave how it affects their business. Mistico also should be up for best interviews because he is the most honest guy in the business when it comes to speaking his mind. He doesn't care about offending others including his bosses.
  20. Par-K was a king of all men during the build to Triplemania which was a huge show where he was in a MOTYC with the crowd going nuts. He was also great in most of his other AAA matches as well so I think he was worthy of it.
  21. Aww crap then I will go with Relampago then.
