I love these promos from "Central Park." Dirty White Boy was awesome doing the "crazy redneck pretending to be from New York" gimmick.

Oh, and as an FYI SLL, we put Peter Cross in the Secret Society as the masked "Hysterico Diablo," since we're unsure of Fierce Fuego's availability moving forward, so you can look for him there on future shows. Also gives us the possibility of doing something with him at some point if we ever unmasked him, since we had the thing where Milo Shizo turned on him a few months back when they formed the Secret Society.

Thanks SLL. You've been a big help to the UWC since we started putting these videos up on YouTube, and as you're well aware, we've used some of your ideas on our shows. Also appreciated you giving us a Workrate Report, even if it wasn't totally positive, though it's not like the positive reviews we received from Babbysack and from 1wrestling.com helped us sell a single DVD... I think we picked a bad month to start the TV, as I'd call February one of our weaker shows as far as in-ring. I mean, I didn't think it was awful, but we've definitely had better months wrestling-wise. Twiggy/Big Rig, for example, wasn't quite as good as it could have been, as Twiggy had his bell rung the week before at a show (promoted by UWC wrestler Dave Patera) so he didn't want to take any bumps, and Big Rig had an issue and couldn't take a whole lot of bumps himself, so it was almost a contest to see how they could get through a big man/little man match without a single bump, and while they pulled it off despite the limitations, it wasn't quite as good as it could have been. That said, I thought our March show really came off well, and think weeks 5-10 of TV will be more effective. As for my own performances, I'm trying to work on being less stiff. Even if that consists of chugging an energy drink before we start filming and making sure I smile more during our stand-ups, I'm trying to find ways to be more comfortable on camera. I have the same problems Will Ferrell's character had in Talladega Nights, where I'm not sure what to do with my hands, and I even get bothered watching my hands on camera, so that's a problem. But I'm working on it, and hopefully doing this every month and watching my performances improve helps me gain confidence and improve even more. That said, the commissioner (and my broadcast partner) got a really good dig on week 5's show comparing me to debuting UWC wrestler Shockwave the Robot. For those interested, here are weeks 3-5: And a UWC Championship Wrestling Extra...Win a Date With Joe Rules!

By "best known to WWE fans" does he really mean "best known to aspie wrestling fans who follow wrestling and MMA and zero other sports or pop culture things"? Because She's All That was a pretty major release and there was a period in the late 90's when Rachael Leigh Cook, while not a famous or bankable movie star, was at least pretty well known.

White Boy and Smothers work really well together, wait until you get to their chain match at the Bluegrass Brawl. One of the best matches of that type that I've seen.

TNA finally sends Jeff Hardy home after ruining PPV main event
Cox replied to Bix's topic in Megathread archive
I don't agree with that sentiment about Hall at all. Remember the time he came back from a European tour so wasted, that he held up a Thunder taping for 45 minutes, and as kjh mentioned, threatened to beat up Terry Taylor backstage? There were plenty of times Hall showed up to work in no condition to perform. -
[1996-08-24-ECW-Natural Born Killaz] Rob Van Dam vs Doug Furnas
Cox replied to Loss's topic in August 1996
Why did Kroffat and Furnas go to WWF anyway? That was during the start of "ATM Eric" so unless WCW had no interest at all, they would have figured to have gotten paid better, been asked to work fewer dates, and would have been used better with WCW than WWF. I assume Cornette and Ross pushed for them since this was at the height of their power, but still.- 10 replies

[1993-02-06-WCW-Saturday Night] Rock & Roll Express vs Heavenly Bodies
Cox replied to Loss's topic in February 1993
Which version made the set, the version from WCW TV or the version that aired on SMW TV? Supposedly, this was heavily edited on WCW TV, as TBS executives were squeamish about some of the things that were said in the promo (including Bill Watts insinuating that Jim Cornette had AIDS) but the whole thing aired on SMW TV unedited. EDIT: Never mind, I see the unedited version from SMW TV was also included.- 14 replies

[1993-02-06-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler vs The Shadow / Interview: Bert Prentice
Cox replied to Loss's topic in February 1993
I assume you probably figured this out eventually, but Prentice was calling Miss Texas "Bubba Johnson," saying she was a actually a man in drag. -
[1993-01-30-USWA-TV] Interview: Jerry Lawler / Music Video: PG-13
Cox replied to Loss's topic in January 1993
Wasn't Hennig one of the guys who (allegedly) shat in Lawler's crown at the '93 Royal Rumble? If so, that adds another layer to that line. -
According to the 1993 Observers, they changed on a weekly basis, with Bad Business Brown filling the role at least one week, and the tag team partner of a Kentucky indy wrestler named Jimmy Stone in the masks another week. Apparently, some of the same guys who worked as the Dog Catchers came back a few weeks later and worked as the War Machines.

As much as I (obviously) love Bob Armstrong and all, I will admit that it's an odd pick, even if it's one I'm completely stoked about. But as long as it ends up with the Murdoch/Armstrong match from Christmas night in Knoxville showing up on Classics on Demand, I'm more than OK with it.

In a way, it's sad reading those 1993 WONs that are posted on the Observer website, because they really are insanely better than the current version. Because he had only 12 pages to discuss the news of WWF, WCW, NJPW, AJPW, Mexico, USWA, SMW, and everything else, plus throw in an occasional Reader's Pages, the writing is so much crisper and edited better than the meandering mess that is the current WON, where he really only talks about WWE, TNA, and UFC in depth. What does it say that I care more about reading news from 17 years ago than I do about reading today's news? He really should drop the TV recaps for WWE and TNA, restrict himself to about 12 "pages," and focus on sharper, more concise writing, as I think that would make today's WON so much better.

Great stuff. You have some great production values for your TV and a lot of good wrestlers. I definitely feel you about taping the intro segments. We tried taping them after the show, but after recording promos in the back and then calling a 2+ hour wrestling show, our energy level was low, and besides the promoters were trying to clean up afterward. I wound up going to my friend's house last weekend to tape them, and I can see it getting tiring every month, having to figure out a time and a place to record intros, but editing on the iPhone as opposed to actual editing limits our options. The iPhone 4 has a really powerful camera. I'm impressed with what we've been able to record on it, producing great 720p HD videos. Unfortunately, being a phone, finding a good microphone has been a challenge, as it doesn't really have a mic in output. Short of speaking louder (and really, I think I could definitely stand to project better during these segments) or finding a microphone that would work with the iPhone, our options are limited (though I have looked and found a few options, but no luck on a handheld mic solutioin yet). Still, considering what we have to work with, I'm pretty happy with what we've produced so far, but I'm always looking for ways to improve and appreciate the feedback.

I didn't take that as an insult at all, I would love if UWC was as big as either of those groups.
-
Yeah, and strangely, Rudo the Heel is a comedy babyface. I don't know that UWC is aiming to be as ironic as Chikara or PWG, we're more of a straight-up territorial indy-type promotion. The color commentator and I do liberally rip off Monsoon and Heenan, and I've been known to rip off David Crockett as well. Still trying to feel our way through how to be a good commentary team, but this was only our second show doing commentary so I'm sure we'll get better and more at ease as the shows progress. The good thing about the iPhone is that the iPhone 4 can record in HD, which is one of the reasons I decided to start using it for these shows. I mean, how many indy shows can say they broadcast in 720p HD? Even if it is for the web, that's still pretty good, I think.
-
I just want to take this opportunity to mention how much I hate Hat Guy. Having gone to several indy shows he had attended after the fall of ECW, that guy is all about drawing attention for himself at the expense of the wrestlers. Seriously, fuck that guy.

Mostly in the Pemberton/Browns Mills area, we run monthly shows at the Browns Mills Fire House and occasional shows at Burlington County College in Pemberton.

Episode #2 is up if anybody is interested. New episodes will be uploaded every Wednesday going forward.

For the past year or so, I've been helping out a friend of mine with some wrestling shows his cousin has put together in the bumblefuck southern New Jersey area for a promotion called the UWC. First it was just helping to organize the shows, then I started recording the shows for YouTube on my iPhone so the wrestlers could watch their matches, and then I was encouraged to add commentary to the matches with another friend (who is the commissioner of the UWC). Now I've decided to post a weekly episodic-type wrestling show on YouTube. I'll be honest, I have been hesitant to post anything about this, partly because I'm reluctant to blatantly plug my own stuff, and partly because my own performances leave a lot to be desired, but I'd like to see if I can get more feedback for these now that we're going to do a weekly deal, so I figured I would post something about it. Our first show features two matches that I really liked from our February show, which is why I wanted to work them into the first episode. Geoffrey Bravo (with manager Joe Rules) takes on Andd Bivians and Rudo the Heel and Silly Billy take on Mighty Mo and Professor Milo Shizo, the Secret Society. Any feedback that is left is greatly appreciated. I'll freely admit that I am far from a natural on camera, but I am hoping I will get better as the shows continue.

There's an easy joke here about Babinsack being totally insane too, so it isn't surprising that he didn't sniff out Bruce's bullshit. But having read a lot of Babinsack, a theme that is almost as prevalent as his hard on for indy wrestling, particularly Shimmer, is that all his book/DVD reviews are worded in such a manner that any criticism is fainthearted and he ends up putting over the product that he's been given a free copy to review. It's part of the reason he's so bad. Dylan explains why I have sent Babinsack multiple copies of DVDs for the indy promotion I assist with.

Another bit of Dave wisdom to file under "Why Dave Should Never, Ever Compare Wrestling/MMA to Other Sports": No Dave, that player would no longer be considered the best quarterback in football.
-
Meltzer also noted that ever since The Rock tore his Achilles tendon while filming "The Game Plan" that he has said repeatedly that he will never wrestle another match, so add "injuries" to the thousands of other reasons why The Rock would never, ever return full-time. I can see him being more of a guest star than he has been in the past seven years, but not full-time and certainly not as a wrestler full-time.
-
Not that I didn't love The Rock and everything tonight, but...are we sure this is a good thing? Cena and Miz are going to be the guys left to carry the ball after The Rock leaves again at Wrestlemania. If they look like jokes, that makes WWE post-Wrestlemania a joke, too.

Didn't Laurinitis join WCW to "modernize the style," and then went to WWF during the WCW merger?
