    Wrestlemania XXVII

Dave mentioned, almost in passing, in this week's Observer that the direction had changed from Undertaker/Wade Barrett: Weird that he'd be so cryptic about the new main event here, but he goes and talks about it like it's an open secret on Observer radio.
  2. I'm guessing the Hughes/Finkel stable is what Jericho was referring to when he talked of being too comedic early in his WWE run, right? I mean, as entertaining as I thought Finkel was as Jericho's WWE Ralphus, there was no way he was ever going to get past the midcard being in a comedy stable wtih Mr. Hughes and The Fink.
  3. He was on Prodigy for sure. He used to make occasional appearances in the Prodigy wrestling chat room and I think he broke the news about going to WWF in the Prodigy chat room. He stopped hanging out as much in there when he went to WWF, but there was definitely a couple of month period where he'd show up to chat about things, really pushing the Christianity stuff hard at the time, which is funny considering how things wound up with him and Rena.
  4. So the "male chaperone" was Bob Ryder, right?
  5. What evidence is there to suggest that there has been any dialogue between WWE and Sting whatsoever? Just because they brought in Nash and Booker to fuck with TNA doesn't mean they talked with Sting.
  6. If Flair does wind up the babyface in all of this, it would be because he has a lot of good friends in the wrestling media (Madden and Mooneyham are both pretty big Flair marks) and because most fans are more likely to take the side of Flair, the "greatest wrestler of all time" over some faceless TNA executive. I mean, here are the facts as we have them: -Flair bought a round of drinks at a bar after a TNA event. -Flair did not have the money to cover his tab. -Flair asked the TNA executive for a draw. -Executive said no. -Flair cuts a promo on executive. -Flair refuses to get on bus to the airport the next day. Was the faceless TNA executive being a hardass? Probably, he could have been a bit more accommodating with Flair's request to not make him look like an ass. But still...should Ric Flair be buying rounds at the bar when he's flat broke? I know he's the "Nature Boy" and all that...but jeez, he's also a 60 year old man, at some point he's gotta look in the mirror and realize if he can't afford to be buying rounds at the bar after matches, he should just chill out. I mean, he's Ric Flair, who isn't going to want to buy a drink or two for him? The problem still lies in Ric Flair being an absolute dope with his money, and this whole situation would have been avoided if he demonstrated even a lick of self-control, and that's the real story here.
  7. Apparently, this Osirian Portal clip is going viral - I've seen it linked in a bunch of places the past few days. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DU4TDGlbTz8
  8. There have been times where I've gotten Prazak to agree to send these to me only for him to fall through because he's so busy. I'll try him again.
  9. To be fair, the Usos have both been wrestling for less than two years.
  10. Sonnen somehow finishing 8th for "Best Gimmick" is amusing. Since when is legitimately being an asshole a gimmick? And how did he finish that high for Best Box Office Draw? Didn't the Sonnen/Silva match actually draw fewer fans than Dave and Bryan were predicting based on Sonnen's "gimmick" of being a racist asshole?
  11. Is that why Raw sucks? Because other than Punk, Miz, Lawler, and occasionally Cena, nobody on Raw can cut a decent promo.
  12. Yeah, this seems to be the sort of thing that would get taken down quickly, as I'm sure all of the writers have to sign NDAs about their time with WWE before joining the creative staff.
  13. My understanding is that Gene and Vince always had a bit of a love-hate relationship, with Gene getting in shouting matches with Vince and quitting every so often, only to finally come back. And on that note, from the November 15, 1993 WON posted today:
  14. C'mon, whomever wrote this. There is absolutely no way a halfway decent spell-checker wouldn't have kicked that one back.
  15. Marc Mero had the nerve to suggest that maybe wrestling needs to clean its act up post-Benoit. He also fucked above his push. I suspect that whatever other gripes are made, legit point or not, that's the underlying problem people have with Mero. To be fair, Foley was ripping Mero long before he was out of the business in his books. From what I can remember, they actually had him take out a bunch of really inflammatory stuff he had to say about Mero in his first book.
  16. Also worth pointing out that the best matches Edge was ever involved with, the stuntman matches with the Hardyz and the Dudleys, wouldn't have even been included in that ****+ percentage, since it only counted main events.
  17. From this week's Observer: Expect that talking point to be rolled out come HOF time this summer. "Edge had the highest percentage of ****+ matches of any other main eventer!"
  18. It seemed like Dave used to freak out a lot about certain guys being pushed, even if the push wasn't all that strong. I remember reading in the 1992 WONs on the website about how the company was pushing Van Hammer down fans' throats throughout the year. The guy wrestled two PPV bouts all year, both very low on the card, and wrestled on one Clash of the Champions card. It's not like he was hurt, he wrestled on house shows throughout the year. For a guy being pushed down fans' throats, he was just another guy low on the cards.
  19. Wasn't Perry Saturn in the actual video for the House of Pain song?
  20. Was The Undertaker's Wrestlemania streak as big a deal at X-7 as it became later? I don't think they started making a big deal about it until he beat Flair at X-8. It's weird, because if HHH had agreed to turn face and lose to Austin as his first opponent, he most likely would have beaten Undertaker at X-7, and then the streak never takes off and the Shawn Michaels matches don't mean as much.
  21. Anybody else think that the recent Morrison push might be related to Tough Enough? Since the other six people who won Tough Enough are no longer with the company, they need to spotlight the one winner whose left to make the new series mean something, and since Morrison is the only guy around, he's getting bumped up.
  22. I believe this was controversial at the time, because Pillman used the n-word in referring to the Gangstas, and New Jack tried to start a fight with him when he came back through the curtain. I think they may have cut that out of the version that aired.
  23. I think it's a sign of how lousy the F4W board is. Dave was never like that on Wrestling Classics. He could get a little testy from time to time, but he didn't have the outright loathing that he has on the F4W board, and it's not like the dudes at Classics weren't loathsome.
  24. I think this would have been Billy Joe Travis.
  25. In retrospect, was WWE's best work of the past decade convincing folks that the Hardys weren't crazy, drug addicted messes? It's especially impressive considering both had at least one Wellness violation (couldn't remember if Matt was at one or two).
