  1. I think the Dreamer stuff was to earn points with the new booker if he does end up replacing Russo.
  2. Yeah, but the handshake is more than WWE etiquette, that is a pretty standard wrestling thing. While Sanders probably meant absolutely nothing by the snub, it is a pretty accepted part of the overall wrestling culture, not just WWE culture, to shake hands with everybody and introduce yourself. It sucks for Sanders that he lost his WWE gig over it, and he really had no right option there, but the handshake is a big deal in wrestling, however silly it seems to outsiders like us.
  3. I'd say that the Val Venis gimmick hurt Morley as much as it helped him, as the gimmick ran its course rather quickly. After it did, WWE would try to push him under new gimmicks (RTC, Chief Morely, etc.) and when they didn't get over, he'd be right back to being Val Venis again within a few months. Morley was a talented wrestler who deserved a better run, but never rose past the midcard in part because of the Val Venis gimmick. It definitely did help him gain recognition faster than he might have otherwise, but it also doomed him to never get past a certain level.
  4. I should hope not, as the only way he was bringing in JYD in the year 2000 was in a hearse.
  5. I think DVDVR has tried desperately to distance themselves from the Sleaze thread. I don't even think it's still on the original board.
  6. On first glance, and maybe this is just my own biases, but it doesn't seem like there's enough SMW or ECW on there, just enough to show that he was in both places. I'm pretty sure the Thrillseekers had at least one TV match with Well Dunn on SMW TV, and that would seem like a better choice than a squash win over the Infernos. Likewise, if I remember, the Cactus match was from his last weekend in the company and was more about spotlighting him than Jericho, the TV title win over Pitbull 2 might have been a better choice there, or the Jericho/Scorpio match from Jericho's last weekend in the company, which I remember being pretty good.

  8. In other words, Mike Tenay of the Observer radio shows?

    WON 2010

I'd have to think Orton and Edge are similar candidates. Orton is a better performer than Edge, though Edge has a better pedigree with the Observer crowd since he has fared better in the year end awards. Neither have any real qualifications for the Hall at this point other than "have been at or near the top of the card for a long period of time." Certainly, neither has really stood out that much as being anything other than a good foil for Cena. It's certainly way too early to tell in Orton's case, but he would have to seriously beef up his resume beyond "being a top guy in a company where that matters less and less" to deserve induction, but he probably has a better shot at deserving it than Edge, if only because he figures to be at or near the top for a really long time unless he goes batshit crazy (not impossible, of course). Batista and Hardy...man, I am not seeing any real argument for either. Hardy's reign as a top guy was short, as was his reign as a top worker, and his forays into TNA make him look like a total product of the WWE machine since he can't be bothered to care or put on good performances outside of WWE. A year ago, he was arguably the #2 babyface in the business, ahead of Misterio and behind Cena, and now he's almost a total nothing guy on TNA, which is at least partly because he's wrestling for TNA but still. Batista won't have a lot of length as a top guy, and is considered to be a poor worker (not entirely deserved, IMO, he's at the very least very carryable) and plus the guy just seems to rub people the wrong way. If Dave ever puts him on the ballot, I can see him immediately falling off.
  10. Foley went over this whole thing in his book, it's the start of him and Gary Young leaving Tennessee to work for the Texas leg of the Jarrett Empire.

    WON 2010

Also, LOL at Danielson ranking higher than Edge, not because I think Edge should make it (because I don't, fucker should be barely hanging onto the ballot) but because Dave has been pushing for Edge in the WON for much of the last year and so far he's received no traction whatsoever from his crew of fanboys, giving me hope he'll never be elected.
  12. It was in last week's Observer.
  13. Cornette's claims that the riot was not racially motivated is kind of laughable. I mean, it may not have started out as racially motivated, but the minute Cornette used the n-word, he made it racially motivated. He escalated this whole thing needlessly, as did Jimmy Del Ray for that matter.

    WON 2010

Thanks. If there are comments, are they included in the HOF issue when talking about that particular person? Or does Dave do an issue in effect saying "These guys are in; here's a short bio of their careers?" He does a capsule of the guys that make it, sometimes he gets a little more involved if they were from a long ago era or that guy who was basically the El Santo of Argentina. Or, if they're Konnan, he lets them write their own bio where they were responsible for every good thing that ever happened to the world up to and including the polio vaccine.
  15. I dunno if they'll do that again after the Kennedy injury mess. By the way, it's really amusing how they've retconned the 3rd MITB match to being won by Edge. It's really funny how Kennedy has all but gotten the Chris Benoit treatment, and he didn't even kill his own family. It's like the dude was never there at all.
  16. While Dave may actually believe this talking point, I do think that at least partially, Dave keeps alive the "MMA = pro wrestling" talking point as a means of covering both, because while he clearly enjoys MMA more than pro wrestling at this point, a large percentage of his readership would go away if he stopped covering pro wrestling entirely. By claiming that MMA falls under the wrestling umbrella, it allows him to cover what he truly enjoys while still making a good living covering the stuff that pays the bills.
  17. I thought it was Mikey Whipwreck being caned by The Sandman while Nancy Sullivan faux-orgasmed over the house mic that got them kicked off of Sunshine?
  18. As a direct result of this thread, I watched the Funk/Rich match pretty much because I saw this thread and thought "Wow, Tommy Rich wrestled Terry Funk in ECW? Awesome!" Match delivered, it's too bad Tommy Rich didn't wrestle much after that, I'd have liked to have seen Rich/Dreamer, Rich/Sandman, even something goofy like Rich/New Jack.
  19. Sorry Dave, but if a tapout didn't take place on a UFC event, it will not go down as the most famous tapout in the history of MMA.

    RAW tonight

The biggest storyline WWE does in at least a year or two, and it's derailed by ties, saliva, and visas. That's a shame.
  21. I know somebody who has not gotten into MMA for precisely the reason that MMA seems fairly haphazard and pointless.

    RAW tonight

That would make sense if Randy Orton hadn't been spared however many times. Of course, it's easier to fire Trevor Murdoch than it is to fire Randy Orton.

    RAW tonight

I dunno, considering how Chris Benoit killed his wife, I'm not thinking the firing is that bad. After getting creamed in the media with all of the choking spots post-Benoit, I can understand that still being a sensitive subject in WWE. It's unfortunate that a momentary lapse of judgment cost Danielson his job, but it's somewhat justifiable.
  24. Per the Observer on the WON site before SummerSlam '91, Jake and Warrior were supposed to start on the house shows against each other as of October (Jake was out with an injured neck around this time) after Warrior finishing his house show run with Taker. They also teased an Undertaker/Sid confrontation on the TV tapings from that episode, so Sid vs. Undertaker was clearly something they had in the works as well. Knowing the way WWF worked in that era, my guess is they would have done a loop around with Warrior vs. Jake and Sid vs. Taker, before doing a series of Warrior/Sid vs. Jake/Taker. As it was, Sid replaced Warrior in house show matches, first against Undertaker immediately after the SummerSlam, and then against Roberts in October, but Sid got hurt early enough into that house show run that they never really did a loop with Savage/Sid vs. Taker/Jake, just a few matches.
  25. Dave's polls are the worst, he does these crazy huge polls with like ten options, and then when something wins with like 18% of the vote, he's all "SEE, THE CONSENSUS SAYS UFC IS PRO WRESTLING" or some shit.
