[1990-01-20-USWA-Memphis TV] Music Video: Jeff Jarrett
Johnny Guitar replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Not much really to add to whats already been said. Typical Memphis blowjob video that's massively out of date by this point in time.- 18 replies

Lawler comes across as desperate in trying to remain a heel. JYD comes across as likeable.

[1990-01-20-WWF-Superstars] Jake Roberts and Ted DiBiase
Johnny Guitar replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Good segment. Nothing revolutionary. But shows the importance of a mid card feud when fans believe in the characters and are invested in the outcome.- 16 replies

[1990-01-20-WWF-Superstars] Royal Rumble Report w/Gene Okerlund
Johnny Guitar replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Good look at the roster at the time. Show's some forethought as this was probably pre-taped weeks in advanced.- 16 replies

[1990-01-20-WWF-Superstars] Brother Love: Hulk Hogan
Johnny Guitar replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Perfect is pretty much presented as an afterthought here, as far as future challenges go. The groundwork for Hogan/Warrior is laid here. By design or by accident. Warrior is the only guy left on the roster that fans would buy as a credible threat to beat Hogan.- 19 replies

Tenryu doing his surly middle aged man act was great, and him and Jumbo hooking up felt big time. Who was the second that was kneeing Tenryu in the head and then wailing on him as the others were dragging him off? Great chaotic scene

[1990-01-19-NWA-Power Hour] Arn Anderson vs Buzz Sawyer
Johnny Guitar replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Solid tv match that advances towards the Clash. From a kayfabe perspective, it's hard to see whats holding J Tex together now that Hart's gone. Sawyer seems like he has nothing in common with Muta and Dragon Master and seems like a forgone conclusion what the clash result will be. -
[1990-01-19-NWA-Power Hour] Funk's Grill: Cactus Jack
Johnny Guitar replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Strange to see Foley so nervous here, but it works to some degree as he does give of the vibe as someone who's nuts. Funk's facial expressions in this are great.- 17 replies

Decent match, but I really enjoyed the the post match angle as everything just broke down into chaos

[1990-01-16-UWF-with '90] Akira Maeda vs Nobuhiko Takada

I found this a real slog to get through. But that is probably down to my unfamiliarity with this style.- 18 replies

[1990-01-16-UWF-with '90] Kazuo Yamazaki vs Yoji Anjoh
Johnny Guitar replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Total shoot novice here. I have no context for this match, so it proved to be a strange watch,as it was total 180 from what I'm used to Both guys were really going for it and some of the strikes and submissions were brutal. I'll give this a re watch once I've got a better handle on the style.- 19 replies

[1990-01-15-WWF-MSG, NY] The Rockers vs Powers of Pain
Johnny Guitar replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Fantastic match. Echoing what both Kevin and Loss said it seems the WWF left a whole bunch of potentially good matches off PPV and in this specfic instance, why did The Bushwackers/Rougeaus get the nod for the Rumble tag spot instead of this?- 38 replies

Grumpy old man Tenryu is tremendous. Like Eddy and Dragon its fun to see Misawa as the junior guy of his team knowing whats to come in the future. He takes a beating here. I enjoyed the finish which i've never seen before, but is so logical that you wonder why it wasn't done more. Cool match.

[1990-01-13-NWA-World Championship Wrestling] Woman Wants Flair
Johnny Guitar replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
The continuity nerd in me is happy that they acknowledge Flair/Eaton, the Iron Man tournament and Flair/Sting from the first Clash. Flair, Cornette and Women are all great here. Fun segment. -

Steve Austin. Starts the decade as the expendable member of a 6 man tag match in Memphis. Finishes off the decade as the biggest star in the business.

[1990-01-13-USWA-Memphis TV] Bill Dundee and Billy Joe Travis

Good look at Travis, who comes across as someone you want to see take a beating. Dundee's promo was good and his cowskin pants are totally pro wrestling.- 21 replies

[1990-01-06-NWA-Power Hour] Arn Anderson vs Great Muta
Johnny Guitar replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
WCW was shown in the middle of the night on ITV in the UK, and our VCR was broken the week this aired so I had to stay up till god knows what time and sneak down stairs in the middle of the night to watch this with the sound down low and my face almost pressed up against the screen. The match holds up for me, quarter of a century later. Sad to see Muta on the way out as there was much more that could have been done with him. Which is sadly something that can be said about so many guys that WCW had over the years. Still he looks good here, although you can see why his knees are shot from how he lands on the moonsault. Hot closing stretch with Arn looking like a world beater and being a crazy over babyface. Which as so many have pointed out shows how much mileage there was in keeping the Horsemen face. -
[1990-01-12-NWA-Power Hour] Funk's Grill: Kevin Sullivan
Johnny Guitar replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Given the personalities involved you kind of expect this to break down into a wild brawl. Instead they discuss everything in a calm rational manner and the segment is the better for it.- 16 replies

[1990-01-07-NWA-Main Event] Ric Flair vs Bobby Eaton
Johnny Guitar replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
"Bumping" Bobby Eaton. People taking bumps from the apron to the guard rail always make me cringe and Eaton's was no exception. Bobby really showed what he could do here and I liked the story of him going after Flair's neck as it's still fresh in the audiences mind what Funk did to it less than a year ago. Flair showed that there was still mileage to be got out him as a babyface. Using the racket to win felt more like "turnabouts fair play" as opposed to "cheat to win". Lance Russel was excellent in calling all this- 32 replies

Savage and Sherri just ooze confidence and charisma. Looking forward to seeing more of them on the set.

[1990-01-06-NWA-World Championship Wrestling] Interview: Four Horsemen
Johnny Guitar replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
There's a sense of foreboding about these segments. You know Sting is heading for a massive beat down. It's just a matter of when.
