"Chris & Nancy" - The new Benoit book by Irv Muchnick
Indikator replied to Bix's topic in Publications and Podcasts
"Yeah, I’ve got to work on weeding out all that negativity from my investigation of a double murder/suicide." So he could write things like "Benoit at a baby / Benoit was responsible for 9/11" and you couldn't argue against it? Somebody needs to read into the true meaning of journalistic integrity -
When was the double turn teased?

"Chris & Nancy" - The new Benoit book by Irv Muchnick
Indikator replied to Bix's topic in Publications and Podcasts
general_mike: Bix being Bix Frau88: btw its very tl;dr so if anyone reads it please summarize. i didnt bother...assuming it's typical bix drivel but i know some of you mark for his shit. was just amused at the dave mention coming out of the blue when i skimmed this. str8talk4teens: I am uncomfortable with a poster whose name is a german word with 88 in it criticizing a proud and successful jewish man bxte: He only brought Dave up because he's written about in the book mash28: How's Irv going to cash in on this next? A set of Benoit murder commemorative plates? edinsanantonio: How the fuck could anyone in the world be a mark for bix~! Rolling Eyes the bwt: hey guy who pays for friends to chill with him in vegas @ ufc shows bix is an awesome guy and really swell. he also knows and loves the biz. this was a good article thanks for bix for reading and doing a fair review muchnick even wrote back to bix on his blog. good stuff all around even if muchnick is a bit crazy. Then somebody called the bwt out because he used the word "swell". ... trostlerp: Arguing over Bix is really lame guys. (says the guy with this avatar: http://lh4.ggpht.com/_LP_YP0I7zZY/SkoPqhqb...Henchman21.jpg) Diabhal Beag: LOL at people fighting over Bix. What a worthless cause (worthlesscause.com should redirect to that board IMO) hardcore_hogan: like how bix gets the shot at meltzer in there. so jealous mufc6000: Somewhere Bix is laughing at all of us which was quoted by vanillafire1000, but then edited by hardcore_hogan ==> "Somewhere Bix is laughing nervously with his lisp at all of us" the bwt: wow lotta bix hate around here maybe a lotta bix jealousy too Yes, it was a waste of time doing this, but as someone was nice enough to make a screenshot of this for me I thought I should do it. Last month, when I used the pc of said friend who has a sub I was amazed how shitty the paysite is. -
I've also seen a 1991 result for Dean Malenkos "retirement match". This might become a fun issue ^^

Maybe the Gary Hart book chapter about Meltzer could help you

Koloff = Klaus Kauroff I think Mane was here as Big Sky. Its hard to distinguish all those horrible 2 meter Americans that were over here. Rapper should be Derek Dukes, who had quite a number of tours

Yes, they are. But have you ever had to say about a HoF entry "he only got this much support becaue of the very subjectional piece Yohe had written" ? Compare that with all the guys who were voted in because something about them was published in the Observer months prior. I should be glad though - it's not revisionism. A bit annoying and maybe stupid, but nothing that does damage. I always have the feeling that in the future MMA historians will be way more off compared to the new batch of wrestling historians in the future. Take me and Bix for instance, born in 83 and 84 respectively, we had all those different promotions, wrestling styles and concepts to feed on when we grew up. For us wrestling is not a one dimensional thing, we know that there are can be fundamental differences in how to run a company. That would have been virtually impossible a generation ago. There will be a lot more fanboys ala Mike Chapman in MMA. That will be horrible, guys who swoon over a certain individual like Tank Abbott or Kimbo Slice. Though when Bret Hart will get mythological treatment I will shake my head, too. Ever tried to tell MMA fanboys that if you try to trace back modern MMA to its root you will eventually get to pro wrestling (RINGS and all the Japanese promotions ==> UWF 1984 / Gracies ==> Zbyszkos) ? I did that a couple of times, but nobody was ever able to accept that notion whatsoever. They are in total denial, cause "how could their sacred MMA be not pure and tainted by the evil pro-wres". So yeah, I think "we" are more objectional. We are able to detect bullshit and are not shook by it to use internet slang. We can assess and explain Bob Sapps / Muhammed Alis fame because of their media appearances with methods that have been pretty much perfected by the wrestling business. And we don't have to kiss asses *looks at the MMA HoF*

Why does everybody assume that Dave is the only wrestling historian? Is it because he is the only person with a big fanbase who talks about history? As if people were saying that Karl Stern was the premier wrestling historian when he still had his newsletter. I think it's a good thing that the Don Luces and JMKs we have are not patronizing egomaniacs who dismiss others people attempts to contribute. Thank god there is nobody who has a Thesz-like power to form history for their own needs aka revisionism

Flair to wrestle for Hulkamania promotion

I don't think you could get any seat for $70 at European tours. The ringside tickets are +100€ -
Well then I want him to point out all his successes wrestling as Shirley Crabtree. What I have read about it until now has not been too impressive
-
I wonder what Matt Jones has to say about Andre vs Hogan WM III
-
I should be optimistic. With competitive bodybuilding as a factor a couple of old school Europeans will get into the HoF. Andre Drapp is a shoe in! (actually, he might be a possible contender if he had enough big houses around 1950 when pretty much all western Europe had a boom period)

Edit: The observer bit has already been posted -
Sayama should be disqualified because he wasn't a star prior to his Sammy Lee gimmick. Ditto for about every possible NJPW contender who had a name change after their rookie years. Good lord how bad is that argument. "You were not successful as a rookie. Although we gave you a new name/gimmick as a way to jumpstart your career after you've managed to learn the trade as a rookie you are deemed a failure because you weren't a super rookie - I guess"

A few months can be enough for Flair to squander a fortune -
wXw has this on their Dragon Gate double shot weekend World of Sports Rules - Mike Quackenbush vs Johnny Kidd Be jealous of me

Kabuki wanted a long term AJPW contract, but Baba only gave him a short term contract offer (my memory says 3 years vs 1 year)

The problem is not much knowledge is available or even online. For instance, I read in the online archive of the German version of the Times/Newsweek that around 1950 crowds of 20 000 - 25 000 were common in Paris and Madrid. Compare that with Thesz vs. Leone and tell me why Europeans and not Americans from that era have problems getting into the HoF In that aspect I hope numbers will at some point be available for the Wilson Kohlbrecher vs Abel Cestac "boxing" match from 1956 in Vienna (the Heumarkt "venue" were the tournaments were held). Both were former boxers who I know were participating in wrestling tournaments, so it was probably a gimmick match, maybe a worked boxing match, maybe a real fight. I dunno - but I bet it happened during a wrestling card. BoxRec had that bout for quite some time listed, I wonder who tipped them off. One estimate for that crowd was 20k, so I guess it might have been a +15k crowd

The greatest things ever written on wrestling message boards
Indikator replied to Bix's topic in Megathread archive
Two things I think crediting Reilly for Gotch is like crediting Stu Hart for Dynamite Kid. Gotch was beating former Olympians prior to his UK stint. The size of the venues is not to be underestimated. Recently I've been starting to collect old Euro programs. For +50 day tournaments in the early 70s in Hannover, Germany they had in a ~3000 fans tent for years attendances of +150 000 for the whole tournament. That means sell outs non stop for the entire tournament repeatedly thoughout the years. Also, regarding Belle Vue... Looking at my Georgia files I found +500 Hansen matches. Yet, I couldn't name you a single match. Is this only because of little available footage or wasn't his US stuff that good in comparism?
-
Is it at least known who got it? A couple of Fritz Von Erich notebooks have been sold, too. I'd really like to know who has them now
-
Pantera - Walk is in my playlist right now. So I'm wondering how many fans today know that this was RVDs theme at one point and a mighty fine entrance theme, too.
-
I shouldn't be suprised that he left off Giant Haystacks. Even though he does his newsletter for a quarter of a century he doesn't know of his success outside of the UK. He was the Andrè to Crabtrees Hogan, but was in contrast to him and most others on the list as omnipresent and all over the place like Andrè in the pre-Hulkamania

Oh come on. There will always be guys who want to earn $$$ with wrestling. The more promoters you know from all eras and countries the less likely you will think wrestling is going to die
