-Trevor Murdoch knocked out a NOAH wrestler during one of his tours in Japan, and the wrestler yelled at him- in English- in front of everyone in the locker room. He wasn’t invited back, but Harley was able to get him into NOAH’s dojo, where he improved and regained NOAH’s respect. Murdoch got a dark match and while there caught Chris Benoit’s eye, leading to him getting signed by WWE. His 2002 tour NOAH Navigation Over The Date Line - Day 1 24. August 2002 @ Differ Ariake in Tokyo, Tokyo (Japan) Vader and Trevor Rhodes beat Takeshi Morishima and Masao Inoue (12:56 Minutes) 2 NOAH Navigation Over The Date Line - Day 2 25. August 2002 @ Tokorozawa Hall in Tokorozawa, Saitama (Japan) Akitoshi Saito and Yoshinobu Kanemaru beat Scorpio and Trevor Rhodes (13:56 Minutes) 3 NOAH Navigation Over The Date Line - Day 3 27. August 2002 @ Town Gymnasium in Bunsui, Niigata (Japan) Akitoshi Saito besiegte Trevor Rhodes (8:03 Minutes) 4 NOAH Navigation Over The Date Line - Day 4 29. August 2002 @ Movement Park Gymnasium in Nagano, Nagano (Japan) Vader, Scorpio and Trevor Rhodes beat Tamon Honda, Masao Inoue and Junji Izumida (8:34 Minutes) 5 NOAH Navigation Over The Date Line - Day 5 31. August 2002 @ Tsukuba Kapio in Tsukuba, Ibaraki (Japan) Takeshi Morishima besiegte Trevor Rhodes (12:26 Minutes) 6 NOAH Navigation Over The Date Line - Day 6 1. September 2002 @ AI-Messe in Yamanashi, Yamanashi (Japan) Akira Taue, Tamon Honda and Junji Izumida beat Vader, Bison Smith and Trevor Rhodes (11:17 Minutes) 7 NOAH Navigation Over The Date Line - Day 7 2. September 2002 @ Citizen Gymnasium in Isesaki, Gunma (Japan) Akira Taue and Mohammed Yone beat Bison Smith and Trevor Rhodes (13:19 Minutes) 8 NOAH Navigation Over The Date Line - Day 8 5. September 2002 @ Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Tokyo (Japan) Yoshihiro Takayama besiegte Trevor Rhodes (4:22 Minutes) 9 NOAH Navigation Over The Date Line - Day 9 7. September 2002 @ Prefectural Gymnasium in Osaka, Osaka (Japan) Jun Akiyama and Akitoshi Saito beat Bison Smith and Trevor Rhodes (13:36 Minutes) I wonder which match it was. I guess Takayama was his punishment. Man, I really want to see that match right now I wonder how the knocked out guy could be. Pretty much anybody outside of Mori/Kanemaru and Inoue had a high standing, and AFAIK Mori and Kanemaru are not fluent in English from the times I was around them. But I know that most foreigners kayfabe at some point (I recommend it in fact) so I am indecisive about them

Snippet from the WWF Global Warefare tape during the post match scenes of Crush vs Shawn Michaels. Sean Mooney (I think) & Savage & Heenan on commentary, after a Dusty Finish happened .... Savage: This is what I call highway robbery Heenan: That's kinda like going out with a girl..... that's like going out with an ugly girl.... you may (couldn't understand this part completely)... but it's not gonna do him anything good Mooney: Well you are certainly an expert in that area Heenan: You bet! .... *3 second pause* .... I mean.... caught in the action, not ugly girl. What are you talking about? Mooney: I saw you last night

Yes please, I bet there are people other than me who would like to see if they used the same mannerisms/moves/outfits

Hey, we can also have our double standards I just realized that all the criticism about wrestlers playing video games is totally hilarious if you remember all the stories about the WWWF guys playing card games non stop. Apparently card games > video games -
The development of the Undertaker gimmick is interesting. We all know that the IWCCW team Double Trouble/The Undertakers was the direct "inspiration". By the way, is there any footage of them online? Anyways, there was a prior case of an Undertaker wrestling for the McMahons. He was the 70s WWWF undercard guy Hans Schroeder, who mostly used the gimmick in Japan for IWE. But I also found a date where Schroeder did double duty WWWF @ Cherry Hill, NJ - September 4, 1974 Stan Lavdas defeated the Undertaker via disqualification Francisco Flores defeated Davey O'Hannon Manuel Soto defeated Jack Evans Pat Barrett defeated Hans Schroeder Dominic DeNucci defeated Johnny Rodz Ivan Putski defeated Cpt. Lou Albano I wonder if that gimmick was a generic masked man gimmick or a predecessor to the popular gimmick we know. Maybe the gimmick evolved when Schroeder did independent shows during the 80s.

Yoshimura sucked so Harley did probably not praise him for his armbars or spinning toe holds

Found this in an old newsletter Public Enemy vs. The Sheepherders - Guaynabo, P.R.; 1/06/99 For some reason I really want to see TPE vs Bushwhackers in Puerto Rico. Or Bushwackers in Puerto Rico in general. Is this on DVD? Or anything by those teams on that island for that matter?

Ask Yohe, I think there is a match with him against Beyer out on DVD. IIRC he also had a "legendary" match against Karl Gotch around 1960 that probably isn't on tape. Legendary as in "the Japanese hold it in high respect" (Like Inoki vs Roland Bock) Beyer he had to wrestle a Japanese broomstick called Michiaki Yoshimura. One could assume that Harley thought he was the toughest guy over there.

Luke Williams is an accomplished booker, who could succeed. But I wouldn't bet my money on it, it should be quite hard for an old school booker to adapt to the current ROH product. This caught my attention: "You have to wonder if Gabe is carving his arms somewhere like he used to do in the ECW days after being told he was fired."

Hey, remember NWE? That European promotion where seemingly the only information available is that it's Rikishis promotion? Well... I spoke with someone who was at the last Spain shows who told me a couple of things - the old (Italian?) money marks are gone, in are new money marks (Spanish?), which explains why they left Italy. If you ever thought that Rikishi was anything but the booker for the foreigners.... *sigh* - wonder why they left Italy? Because every second show in a city bombed - he told me about a show in Spain that went 75 minutes and most matches were accompanied by "Bullshit" chants So in conclusion.... the only thing we know is that it's Rikishis fed, eh?

He knows. Look at Magnum, as soon as he could afford it he had a sweet ride and wrapped around a pole at high speed. The vast majority of wrestlers had expensive cars and they had to neglect every speed limit in order to get to the next show. Doesn't that void Ross's claims? A wrestler planning his future is probably the exception rather than the norm. But with all the stress, the travels and the drugs they need in order to go on... can you blame them? -
That's the magic of Savage. When I was young I thought his axhandle blow to the outside was a nice move. Only with adulthood I noticed how insane that move and Randy himself are

Also, isn't it funny when a promotion that doesn't want to hire good wrestlers is lamenting over the fact that the superstars do not care about wrestling? They will hire a model and than be all shocked because she doesn't know about Andrè The Giant. Wow. Who would have thought that... Pretty much everybody knows that wrestling knowledge will not get you a job with WWE, in fact, it will will even make it harder. If you want to get into WWE, don't travel around the world, tour Japan and go to England for three months. No, go to the current retarded farm territory, collect a couple of DUIs and you are ready for the big time! It doesn't matter if the training is shit or that nobody of your fellow trainees wants to learn wrestling like the guys on the independent scene do. Kiss some higher ups ass. He will like it until he asks himself "OH WHY DON'T THE YOUNG GUYS LIKE WRESTLING *SOB* " , then he will remember that he is responsible for the status quo because he set the rules. He will then consider two options 1) Doing a good job as a wrestling official 2) More ass kissing / getting laid You know what he will choose What could possibly go wrong with a system like that? -

Yes, I bet people like Buddy Rose were always thinking about paying their taxes, saving their money, hiring a financial planner and preparing for their future. Like when Missy Hyatt talks about her groupie days and how the wrestlers were leeching of the groupies. Now that is what I call a financially sound wrestler who is almost as smart as Vince McMahon and HHH *fulfills McMahon asskissing quota* Stupid young wrestlers, playing VIDJA GAMES and not taking obscene amounts of drugs like the intelligent wrestlers in the old days did... who were so intelligent, they died with 40 because their brains exploded due to sound financial planning, work ethics and intelligence. -

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
Indikator replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
IWA-MS is a good example why TV is crucial. I really wonder why no promotion tries the ECW approach anymore, in this DVD age ECW might have had a higher survival chance. -
It was Brazo de Oro & Brazo de Plata . What were the taping dates? Opening day was Takano & Yamada beat Brazo de Oro & Plata
-
I do not deny that. But it was just like that during the 80s, too. Although it can be argued that especially around 1982, 1983 New Japan might have been able to run a stadium show. One of my main talking points is that although there were two boom periods during the 80s (TM era for New Japan, Choshu era AJPW) both companies did underwhelming numbers. I really got my opinion when I read in the 1984 WON digest (Thanks Loss!) that Hayes/Gordy vs. Baba/Tsuruta could not sell out Korakuen Hall. Say what you want, but Baba/Tsuruta not being able to sell out Korakuen Hall is noteworthy when people are trying to dismiss guys like TenKoji or Morishima for their "failures".
-
-- Due to the Rock & Roll Express's first tour, TV ratings have been in the 7's, which is very strong. I love reading old Observers when it comes to Japanese ratings and crowd numbers. Can you imagine someone saying today that the Japanese promotions are lacking a strong gaijin contingent. Also I am amazed how people bitch about low Budokan attendances because of Rikio/Morishima/KENTA/Marufuji when 25 years prior most "legends" did similar numbers.
-
Steve Austin was Steve Schuhmann / Ray Evans / Lance Idol who died in 1991. He was PNW tag champ IIRC
-
Alex Wright was the WCW tv champion with that finisher in 1997 and it was rather credible. Fast forward five years and you know why the German Suplex is not a reputable finisher anymore, sans the Takayama version

A couple of his title matches (Slaughter, Sailor White, Yokozuna, Brutus Beefcake, Dave Barbie) are available. I peeked into his Andre matches and I have to admit.... they looked awesome. Not sure if I was drunk or high but I really liked those post-1985 Andre matches for some reason. You can say what you want about catch tournament matches, but the title matches are almost always can't miss material Lynch Germany #2 Otto Wanz vs. Don Leo Jonathan Otto Wanz vs. Sailor White Otto Wanz vs. Bobby Duncum Otto Wanz vs. Sgt. Slaughter Otto Wanz vs. Ed Leslie Otto Wanz vs. Dave Barbie Otto Wanz vs. Andre the Giant Otto Wanz vs. Leon White Otto Wanz vs. Andre the Giant Otto Wanz vs. Black Bart I should note that the VQ of the DVD is not to good..... and that I have 4 of the 5 master tapes (not sure if all matches are from those VHS) so I could do an upgrade. And with I I mean my brother because all my tapes are at his place as I don't have a TV anymore.
