I think Hillbilly Jim was pushed quite hard before he had his big injury in 85. To me the downfalls of Fred Kohler and Eddie Quinn were quite impressive, though I can't remember right now where I read about it

Have you read Pat Barretts book? Very disturbing...

I like lists. Also, I'm part of a project... sadly it's not as awesome as being a knights templar PM'd you. -- Loss, 01/10

Remember when a newspaper from IIRC Los Angeles more or less copied an article from the Dragon King Wrestling newsletter about the topic? No? See, Tim is right. Nobody will care

It should be noted that tentacle rape and pixelation are the after effects of US censor standards that were imposed after the second world war. So if you talk about how creepy the Japanese can be don't forget that America has been the trigger for all that weird stuff
-
For the people who dislike the Japanese system - was Akira Maeda better of as a wrestler or should he have stayed in the yakuza?

Thanks alot. And because someone was talking about the JBL incident, I was really suprised when Finley did the same thing a year later (Stuttgart) and nobody cared or flat out denied it. Only the more educated fans who knew that he (and others) did that shit fairly often 15 years ago were saying after the show that he did the Hitler salute. The denial of wrestling fans is always amusing Edit: RoloChoshu = Bix

Wrestling can be very naive, which makes it lovable. I don't think porn has the upsides wrestling provides, but I don't know anything about the porn industry. Wrestlers love to tell stories, they are pranksters, share their car/food/apartment with rookies, train others for no money or pay horrible fees to get trained, they travel insane distances and get constantly in trouble with the law and love to fight. And a lot of them do it for the love of it. I am not sure if a sex addict can be compared to a 55 year old wrestler who just wants to wrestle until he drops dead. Wrestling can be about heroics, the adrenalin rush, the fuzzy feeling when you win a title or wrestle in front of 20 000 people, knowing that you are in the history books for some reason (Shawn Michaels demanding the European title 10 years ago so that he can be the only "Grand Slam" champion), being hated by a whole country, living your desires through a gimmick, earning quick money, spending that money in the next bar, never being at home, knowing too many people to count How many female porn actors are out there that don't do it for the money? Compare that to the number of wrestlers that don't get paid. Wrestling can be a lot more idealistic and is because of that for me less sleazy. Although that doesn't mean that I don't know my fair share of horror stories about people like Brian Dixon. It's just that whenever I am going to a wrestling show most guys are happy to be there, they are eager to have fun in the ring, backstage or somewhere else after the show and they are not dead inside. Which by the way does not apply at all to the WWE wrestlers. Whatever I hear from the guys who swarm around them during European tours is mostly depressing. But what else should you expect from that company

Seriously, who got Lino Ventura into the Hall of Fame? Every bio I read of him did not say more than a single sentence about his wrestling career. Apparently it doesn't matter if you wrestled in front of 60 000 people or had 50 sellouts in 2 months in the same town, as long as you are European you are screwed. Note to self: To get Hans Schwarz Jr. inducted, don't tell Meltzer that he dominated the German wrestling scene for 20 years (1930-1955), a feat no other person ever did accomplish over here, just send him the link for his IMDB resume! http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0777533/

Billingtons opinion was pretty much that of most Europeans wrestlers with a sadistic streak. Which was the majority of wrestlers. Of course those wrestlers didn't have access nor had the money to do the drugs he did. But the ideology is rather similar. I read that painkillers were widespread in early 80's soccer and that a lot of players who popped them like candy now have huge joint problems. I always say that DK wouldn't be amputated if he didn't do those ridiculous concrete bumps. His career was a little bit longer than some CZW folks and Mick Foley, who are the only guys who did worse things than he did. DK's attitude regarding injuries was only part of the problem, he did way too many stupid bumps, popped to many pills, took horse steroids and was inable to know when to stop or even rest. How often have we read that a wrestler worked with a broken finger? Now imagine how many times wrestlers have worked through concussions. And it has gotten a lot better in the last 30 years. I know of wrestlers who died in full nelsons during a match or even dropped dead minutes after the match ended and nobody thought anything about it except "well... he probably had an undetected heart condition". Mike DiBiase and other guys worked through heart attacks. In former times some didn't care about a heart attack, now we have Christopher Nowinski who speaks against post-concussion syndroms. So there is some progress

I kinda dislike 10/10 not because of the moves but because it feels like the worlds best wrestling exhibition match. To criticise the match strictly because of the number of moves would be stupid. I guess it's all about timing in a match - from both wrestlers

Get the 1st edition, it has better pictures than the Observer version

Rusher died?? -
I think I read an article about the promotion in an old issue of RING magazine where they stated that although Rocca said they were going to bring in Dick The Bruiser and Thesz neither appeared for the promotion at all. (Or maybe it was a thread on WCMB/KFM). Does anyone have Career Records for both guys?
-
Forget confidentiality, we are talking about wrestlers. Also, wouldn't it be plausible if some source made things up to improve his own career? *gets popcorn and waits anxiously for things to happen*

I think a face opponent could get something out of HHH, but it was less than what HHH got out of the feud himself. Thus Benoit, Booker, Eugene and were kind of screwed. Randy and Batista were a little bit different as they were clearly more pushed by managment, yet you could make the case that HHH tried to sabotage them (see: Eugene).

It is amazing how the top tier WWE guys believe their own lies and live in their own world.

Nova has invented getting fired

Although this time McMahon has the money, he will get caught up in his personal vendettas so yeah, it will be like 92-95. Sadly TNA will be stupid enough not to take advantage of it
-
WWE needs their own Hector Garzas or at least some road agents that are only on board for steroids and can be axed easily in cases like this.

And the best thing in that scenario is if one fanbase falls away it will be rather easy to change his product and not loose the other fanbase. Remember when the Hulkamaniacs reached puberty or for some strange reason the 6th incarnation of the nWo flopped, if your only fanbase leaves it can get quite ugly -
And another Nishimura match from his USA tour that sounds cool. Nishimura in the US should be a very interesting comp idea
