It was definately the coolest, since I was actually cheering at the TV as they got me hook, line, and sinker as I was thinking for a minute that Jerry Lawler was gonna win the WWE Belt. That's some first class rasslin' right there. -

I love this. That's great. Some years back, a buddy of mine was getting married and he told his fiancee' that every detail of the wedding would be her decision, no arguements from him, just as long as when they were introduced at the reception, the DJ would play HHH's "The Game". He didn't tell anyone but a few of us, and it was hilarious and cool as hell. -
I always used to make the comparison when I was married. My wife loved Figure Skating/ Ice Dancing so I watched a hell of a lot of it. Amateur skating is more like boxing, cause it's supposed to be a sport but it's terribly corrupt and fixed. Pro Figure Skating is totally fixed. Wrestling is more like the Ice Capades, if they were pretending to compete. Granted the Nancy Kerrigan/ Tonya Harding fued started strong, but fizzled when the Olympic Committee booked the whole Harding "I need to retie my skates" debacle. And then they decidedb to push young Oksana Baiul at both's expense to pop the crowd, based on her storyline about coming up poor in the Ukraine.

Did anyone point out to Dave that "unentertaining" athletes in football, baseball, basketball, etc don't get cut from the team as long as they are winning/ helping win games? I get the whole "all sports are a business" thing. But Pro Wrestling isn't a sport.

Ridiculous quotes from WO.com columnists

All I know is that my high school friends and I started ordering WWF ppvs in 1998 and ordered almost every single one. In 1999 we only ordered WrestleMania and SummerSlam, but in 2000 we ordered every single show. '99 was brutal. If they didn't have The Rock and Austin to save most of the shit it would had been the worst year ever. In 1999 I think the only compelling characters were The Rock and Austin. In most of 2000 the WWF tried to make everyone interesting and worth watching. Instead of relying on shock value they tried to create real, somewhat 3-D characters. Mankind was also a pretty great part of 1999, if I recall. -

Good old Todd brings the stupid: -
Dave and Alverez going on and on about how Cena's storyline retirement doesn't work because "real" retirements don't mean anything, is a baffling confusion of real life and pro wrestling. Dave actually says, "Besides the kids in the crowd, no one really thinks Cena is retiring." Really? No shit.

I remember being at some JAPW show that ended with AJ running off Homicide, Lo-Ki, and B-Boy and AJ on the mic screaming that next mointh he'd be back to take care of , "Them NO GOOD PWARRTA REEKINNSSSS!" It was funny hearing a Georgia Cracker yell that in Rahway, NJ.

Yes it did seem the point was to further Cole's heel turn, but Lawler seemed to be calling his own shots just a little. Oh totally. Lawler was obviously getting annoyed and saying what he wanted. Which is why the whole, "Vince was feeding Cole ALL his lines" in another chapter of Vince vs. Jim Ross seems a little wrong to me. It seemed more to me that Lawler was trying to tell Cole to knock it off as he was overdoing it. The other line that Dave and Alverez think was fed to Lawler was when Lawler was asked by Cole what legend Mark Henry reminded him of and Lawler couldn't think of anyone. A few minutes later Lawler said that Henry was sort of like, "well..Bruno Sammartino". I can see Vince saying that, I guess.....
-
Hershey was a pretty damn good choice, though. I guess the Poughkepsie Civic Center and Allentown fairgrounds were booked.
-
OK, Meltzer and Alverez seem to think that they only brought back Ross to announce that match so Vince could feed Cole lines to try and bury Ross, but "it backfired". Really? That's the last thing I thought of. They did mention that it seemed Lawler was legit telling Cole to shut the fuck up, as Lawler was obviously getting annoyed with Cole's schtick. I picked up on that, too. And Dave confirms the old Tony Atlas, "Am I shiny, enough?" story! I knew I didn't imagine that. Dave not seeing the forrest for the trees re; Mae Young is so odd. Alverez calling Danial's kick a "Cro Cop High Kick" is really annoying. It's really something how they both didn't seem to pay much attention to this show and didn't dig it, considering it was one of the best and most fun RAW's in years.

And Kerry and Kevin didn't even need to be great promos. -
I really don't understand the "THIS IS A SPORT"..."THIS IS NOT A SPORT" problem that Dave has. I understand why he covers MMA, I get why he sometimes seems to not care about wrestling but is in love with MMA, I get all that stuff. I just don't get why he goes on about MMA as being part of Pro Wrestling and not being a part of the world of actual sports. That out of the way, the current Bruno interview is as great as always.

He actually was billed as being from "Belfast, Northern Ireland". Actually, for much (if not all) of his WWE run, they said "Belfast, Ireland." Was he really? I could have sworn otherwise. FWIW, this was the statement released on WWE.com prior to their debut: Make of that what you will. That's some really awful "cover our ass" shit, considering it was "In Living Color" they were ripping off.

And of course it was a reference to to the last "Newhart", which is pretty cool. -

I like McDevitt being called a family member. It's like Tom in the Godfather. -
Dave 's quick recap of Carpentier's career on the radio was great. I expect a really interesting write-up/ obit.
-
I never got the whole "Cryme Tyme is racist" deal. Cryme Tyme was Homeboy Shopping Network from "In Living Color". And Cryme Tyme was dopey. And it's not as if the WWE was/is the only TV to make heroes out of negative Black stereotypes. BET is far worse. If they had been heels and the commentators were upset over those thieving black men, then ok.
-
Aw, I remember seeing Carpentier in a few matches at the end of his career on WWF Saturday morning TV and Prime Time on USA. I always liked him.

I'd imagine it's because the steroetypes in wrestling are so over the top and silly, that they just laugh at them. I'm a half Italian who was born in Kentucky and raised in New Jersey. Hillbilly Jim and The FBI never bothered me.

No one. They're putting him in a program with Morrison. Morrison caused him to lose to Santino tonight. Listening to Meltzer and Alverez talk about it is hilarious, as neither of them saw that Morrison saved Santino in the corner, leading to the fluke win. This is, like, remedial pro wrestling angles 101. "Face causes beloved jobber pinning Super Dominent heel and then commence fued."

The knees went. That had me going, "Oh come on, Mike! Greg Luzinski is coaching high school ball and THE BULL ain't crying." Seriously, Schmidt was the fucking man. I lived and breathed Phillies baseball in the 70's and 80's. And I agree that it's great that Alverez is watching 24/7 and finding out how awesome the 80's stuff from the territories is. It's the only time on his radio show he seems to enjoy talking about wrestling. It's just strange to me, as someone who grew up watching all that stuff, and is now reliving it via the DVDVR projects, hearing a guy who's job is covering wrestling discovering stuff that's only 20-30 years old. Eh, I'm just a nerd. -
A guy who currently gets his jollies twittering silly shit and doing shoots acting silly in order to get a laugh when marks are over reacting to his BS that he knows is BS.
