GOTNW said: "Kashin is just a troll“. „He sucks“. „He was booed at an ROH show in 2004 once“. This is what I learned growing up reading through the archives of the prowres interwebs. Actually watching the footage, you see he has a cool mask and a catchy theme song. Ok, a good start. Then I watched him tap out Masayuki Naruse in half a minute with a Flying Armbar. I like Flying Armbars. I kept watching his stuff, I kept enjoying it, and by the time I saw him carry clueless Yuma Aoyagi to a really fun match I could safely conclude conventional e-wisdom was wrong and Kendo Kashin does in fact rule. He really is a troll though, but it's part of the charm."

GOTNW said: "Kintaro Oki's fellow Korean tag team partner is someone whom I'd never heard get hyped, but almost instantly impressed me. From what I've seen he works as a very capable worker laying his stuff in nicely, with him and Oki basically inventing W.A.R. wrestling by working these hateful chaotic brawls. If you want a summary of what he's about, there's a 4 minute clip of him wrestling Wahoo McDaniel where he absolutely goes toe to toe with him."

Jetlag said: "Another guy who massively benefited from the French footage becoming available. The man looked world class from his first appearances in the 60s up to his last in the 80s and virtually always had an outstanding match. Amazing technico, but also amazing rudo. Looks great both doing high end technical work as well stooging for faces and being a rough playing bastard. Has both great singles matches and great tags under his belt. One of those French guys whose matches you can show to anyone and their jaw will drop."

I had her #24 in 2016 and what a fucking mistake. She's my #1 right now and I still have 93-94 to watch more thoroughly. I don't know what it will take to take her out that spot. I just can't get over how much she gets out of every second of the match, from working the apron, to her selling, to her submissions, to each move she does.

Your Criteria/Process/Method at the Start of the 2026 Cycle
Grimmas replied to Matt D's topic in Greatest Wrestler Ever
I started last year going through all the joshi from the 1980s (the main stuff) and starting in 1990 very thoroughly and I'm up to 1992. By 2026 I hope to get caught up to 2017 when I started watching. The Shimmer pod is getting me through that footage which is important. Outside of that, there is a few other folks I need to explore which will happen whenever, plus the Watch Parties and putting together those playlists will help. That's my plan for footage watching. This time I am more focused on how great someone is at wrestling and less focused on the greatness of their career. To me, someone who is a 9 for 4 years will rank higher than someone who was an 8 for 7 years. -
I will be too, I love these posts by Elliott and I will be going through my embarrassing list.

Hojo is essentially on my list. 5 years being that great is pretty list worthy.

I feel in the exact same boat. Give us recs please!

Any recs would be awesome!

I'm up until 1992 in my joshi watching and I have fallen completely for Inoue. What a tremendous babyface with great sympathetic charisma. Yes, she's a freaking oddball doing bizarre shit all the time, but it's really charming. She sells amazing, and looks awesome in all of her big matches. Plus a giant swing gets bonus points, and super bonus points for adding spins into almost any other moves she does!

Scorpio was the best wrestler in the world in 1996. Was one of the greatest high flyers in wrestling history. Was tremendous in tags or singles, as a babyface or a heel, and for a very long period of time. Feels like someone I need to vote for, but I haven't seen anything from the 2000s on, any recommendations for that?
-
Few things in wrestling I love more than heels who are committed to cheating! Fuerza rules in that way. Some recommendations please.

The Finlay match in Smash FUCKING RULES!!!

Join us! Also please don't feel like you need to watch every candidate. There is too much footage to tackle, nobody can do it all.

What we watched on the Watch Party: vs Sara Del Rey (SHIMMER Volume 1, 2005-11-06) vs Davina Rose (SHIMMER Volume 41, 2011-10-01) vs Kana (SHIMMER Volume 46, 2012-03-17) vs Kylie Rae (RISE 13, No Ropes Submission, 2019-03-29) vs Thunder Rosa (Hurricane Pro, 2019-07-27) vs Jordynne Grace (The Summit, 2019-08-10) If you want some other great matches, you have the MYC with Meiko, vs David Starr from Beyond Uncharted Territory (2019-10-19), the Iron Man match from RISE with Tessa Blanchard. Those should give you a good rounding view of her, but I could throw in more if you would like. Top 25 may be too high, she may not last there and definately some bias there. Top 50 is very reasonable though.

One of my favourite matches of the decade. Gives you a great glimpse of how awesome Mercedes is.
-
Just finished the watch party on Mercedes and yeah she's a top 25 candidate for me. She's so casually charismaticly bad ass! Her selling and facial expressions are off the chart. She's extremely smart too in the ring, and can easily adapt to almost any situation. More hype please!

Shimmer 05-07 (so far). Everything is logically built with character development. Shows are easy to watch, because undercards are kept short and are angle and character development. Wins and loses matter. Upper half of the show has great matches. Amazing commentary too. Love it so much.
