    Agree that this is below the 6/7 match for me but I still enjoyed it a great deal. The storyline of Akiyama rising up has been done so well throughout 1996 and Misawa has hit the right median of helping him but also stepping in when he needs to. I enjoyed Doc being this energetic this late as this may be the last instance as we will see as the year progresses. ****

    ANother great piece of business. The final blowoff between these guys and then everything afterward that is awesome. While Giant certainly looked flustered it did kind of work within the confines of him learning the pecking order first hand but it is too late for him to apologize for the carnage he has created. I didn't think this quite reaches the high of the earlier mayhem and the actual ring does in some way feel disconnected from the aftermath but it is another match that has an amazing angle surrounding it and therefore my ranking reflects that. ****1/4

    Sherri vs. Tammy is an interesting feud and smart of SMW to bring her in. Sherri does nearly break my tv set by screaming as loudly as she possibly can.

    Bruise Brothers continue to look good and we get dissension teased between them and Cornette after taking the loss. The RNR always do a great hot tag sequence.

    Dutch in the tux was awesome. Clips of the big Armstrong vs. Funk match which didn't have as much heat as I expected. I also think this was the first instance so far of Cornette getting too much over as the finish felt contrived with everyone running out, getting stopped by the faces before finally the heel is able to gain the victory with the branding iron. I did like Cornette and Funk's promo afterwards gloating but something overall about this didn't resonate with me like I thought it would given the buildup.

    I loved Tatanka here. He does a good piledriver to secure the title and then gets the studio crowd way against him as he starts mouthing off at them. Lawler comes out to set up a Survivor Series style match with the belts on the line and I am really intrigued. I liked that Tatanka and Rich both didn't back down here and played the tough heel that doesn't realize he is in over his head vs. the cowardly one.

    Rich is really starting to bloat but I have still really enjoyed this as an underneath feud so far. Paul Neighbors has also been a good instigator in the stuff we have seen so far and he is effective here. Nothing groundbreaking with this segment but a solid interpretation of some Memphis staples.

    Vince revealing the belt was a mark out moment for me. He keeps on gloating and delivering in these promos and this remains some of the more fascinating stuff from a storyline perspective on the whole set.

    123 KId is laughed at by Shawn and Diesel. We get a beatdown until Perfect makes the same. Everything felt odd about this giving the direction they went with things.

    I liked this better than the long Superstars match but it is still admirable that of WWF, they seem to be getting the tag division over a decent amount around this point that would peak with the January 1994 stuff. This also feels like the first time since the late 80's that we have some fresh faces in the tag division and everything doesn't feel stagnate or two big fat dudes have the belts just because. This was worked well around the stip and did an effective job of making the Quebecers look effective even if overmatched at times. The beatdown on Scott was really long and well done and I liked Polo on the outside teasing involvement but never really mixing it up until the very end. The crowd caught on and made the finish that much more effective. I also really enjoyed the gloating promo they give afterwards with the belts. Refreshing stuff on WWF television. ***3/4

    Short, energetic match that was a highlight of the offering on tv by the WWE. They cut a quick pace and were doing reversals and aerial moves that were uncommon in WWF at the time. Kid's splat to the floor looked nasty and it paid off with being the finish of the match. REally nice hidden gem here. ***

    Feel like I am higher on this than most of the comments as I enjoyed it a good deal even though the feud overall doesn't seem to be hitting the extreme highs it was early in the year. Chono can come off as lackadaisical at times and that can make the match suffer overall but I thought he was presented as a nice threat for Tenryu to overcome. The ending was especially wild and made me really anticipate the Hase vs. Tenryu bout. ***1/2

    Thanks for sharing TravJ. I contend also that the journey each person has taken here is more interesting than the end result. Wrestling has provided me with hours of entertainment, but it is an entertainment source and there are times when I have to make sure of that. I always love doing Where the Big Boys Play but it does always take time away from my family to record them due to the time zone difference between Parv and myself. That is a balance I have had to strike the last year or so with a newborn, more demands at work, etc. As a result, the show output has faded, but the desire is still there and the entertainment is when I carve out time for wrestling.

    It was in effect here as during the Dangerous Alliance match, Jesse and JR had a debate on whether or not the face team should have been DQ'd when Arn went over the top.

    As fun as the CZW vs. ROH feud was at times, I thought IWA-MS being used as a territory third party would have been a fun dynamic and can see Pain, Ian, Todd Morton and a host of other people as the main mid-south contingent. Bull is someone that I want to watch the Hangman stuff of but his indy stuff is pretty awesome and has a great sense of realism to his brawls.

    The Ten Commandments of Bill Watts 1. Thou shalt not use the barricade or be automatically DQ'd 2. Thou shalt not wrestle outside the ring 3. Thou shalt not have low blows. First offense is $1,000, second $2,500, third $5,000 and breach of contract. 4. Thou shalt arrive at the arena for a show an hour before the opening bell. The same fines as above apply. 5. Thou shalt make every effort to make every event. The only excuse is if I cause you to miss it. 6. Even if injured, you have to attend the events so the fans don't suspect false advertising. 7. No talking over the P.A., hand gestures, or words taking my name in vain allowed. 8. Saints and sinners should be separated at all times and not travel together. 9. Only two tickets to the show are allowed for free. 10. No one is allowed backstage.

    Dave is so captivating. He is someone that based on interviews is so consumed in the business. Him saying he has 20 years left in the business was pretty astounding.

    Invader vs. Perez was a pretty awesome brawl. Only punches and kicks here but it went the perfect length and the teases of the stairwell bump with Invader upside down was especially visceral. I also enjoyed the finish as the stariwell plays into the finish as Perez just decides to bolt as he has had enough. Not much you can type out about a match about this but it was really entertaining as a hate filled brawl type match.

    Watched Rambo Ron Starr vs. Invader I One thing that has been slightly offputting in the Puerto Rico stuff only compared to other styles is I feel the babyfaces take too much of the match. I was worried about this in this particular match with the opening. Invader takes most of the first 6-7 minutes of the match and what he does is fine although the hammerlock wasn't too inspiring. On the surface, the chair shot that changes the complexion of the match seems like an oversell. Who was the lady that delivered it? It wasn't a particularly brutal chair shot. Having said that, Invader's selling was so marvelous it made me give it a complete pass. Him staggering up and Ron going down to pound on him some more was harrowing stuff. My favorite segment was him sitting in a chair and it collapsing and someone trying to assist him up to his feet only to be escorted away from the scene by the police. Once Invader is finally able to get back in, he hits some hail mary shots but the thing I liked about this match in comparison to some of the other PR stuff, is that the match was effectively over. Starr needed one knockout blow and he knows that and is bidding his time until he hits a DDT and wins in a pretty abrupt fashion that feels totally justified. Great match and the sell job by Invader was sublime.

    Forgot to mention this but it was a prevailing thought in my mind while watching. What was the time-frame of that poll as if it would determine where Rude/Steamboat would end up for me.

    Lost worker in the fact that he was given an opportunity really early in SMW to be a main player and delivers pretty consistently. I think he had great presence here and in his initial heel beatdown and it was refreshing to see from someone that based on his career arc the rest of the 90's, I had assumed he failed pretty tremendously in any opportunity he had to be near the top of the card.
