Yeah, I am making my way through Page really kind of becoming something of a commodity in 1996 which shows a lot of patience even though he did have some serviceable stuff before then but he also had some dreadful stuff.

The Trade Marks Ep. #1 - The $52,000 Question
soup23 replied to Bix's topic in Publications and Podcasts
One thing that was touched on a bit at the end but I was interested in opinions on was Smart Mark Video. They do have that culmination of indies and do have a digital download service but at $12 a download at least for shows that could be 10 years old, it feels like a market they are really missing out on. Ditto the ridiculous nature of them still charging $15 a pop for DVD's and having some of the worst sales I have ever seen. I would gladly pay $10 a month for a streaming service that would have IWA-MS, Chikara, CZW, and random other indies libraries with some of the newer stuff. -
I hate to say it but I got to say I gotta go with Pete's first card as my favorite. I was surprised at how Lashley vs. Umaga was prevalent as well as Flair vs. HBK as those are the type of matches I think are unconventional for a super show like this but could be good buffers when constructing a card. Steven's all beef card was something to behold but after reading his booking on PTBN the past few weeks, I am no surprised.

More tag stuff in the PUlp Fictions stuff that I cant be bothered to care about. Kimonas delivery was awful and I hate the interaction with her, Beulah and Dreamer. These havent been setting my world on fire lately.

Yeah, how does Luger get the spot here. We do get a GOOD GAWD From DDP which is nice to hear in 1996 and he calls Gene Snapperhead. Pretty awful promo that the crowd doesn't care much about.

Flair has run Mongo off from commentary and brought the dinner to the announce booth. Him and Bobby are pretty distracting during the match but are entertaining especially him goading bischoff. This match was a beefy spectacle. That belly to belly look like it killed Sting and really Sting in 96 has had one of his strongest in ring years from the snippets we have seen so far. Double headbutt from the FOF and Luger distracts the ref in a nice spot for a face of Lugers caliber to do. Really fun match overall. ***

By far the best Flair match so far this year. He bumps well for the Eddy lucha spots and controls the action in a great way to get Eddy over as a face that the crowd wants to cheer. Flair getting the win in this fashion also helps put over the figure four. I am glad that we finally get a Flair match to hang onto in 1996 as his character work has been good and he has dominated a lot of tv time. ***1/2

We see HBK doing the Kilq sign as he walks out of MSG The Godwins win the tag straps and the Phineas fascination angle with Tammy is in full swing. Man, most of these Raws were just filled with nothing and it is no surprise that WCW was able to gain some great traction.

The jobbers being in at the end resulted in the bad crowd heat. DDP does win signifying his first run to the top that has been chronicled excellently in these sets. I wonder how good the Sting vs. Giant main event was as I have liked the way giant has been presented lately.

Action disappointed me and felt by the numbers with the cage tropes plaguing it that PeteF mentions. The commentary on the finish sounds like Parv watching a Dibiase match as he loses his shit at the four embracing. It is a surreal moment to see and odd that the MSG crowd was still hot making me unsure if most were in the know or were just cheering stuff. **

I actually like the house show match a smidge better but this was a good match too. I thought the mat work got betrayed a little too quickly here to do the ramp spots and big Sal looked more awkward overall with his apron support and interference. Still a good opener for the PPV to get the crowd invested into the show. ***1/4

Danny B has a few words for the other juniors and takes an attack as a result. KAW continues to be cheesy as ever but it is starting to lose its appeal from a sleaze standpoint with me even with the small snippets we are getting.

The clipping here makes me upset as this felt like a chaotic war that could be a great match. Yaguchi was an absolute mess with his shirt turning red from all of the blood loss. His sequence with ONita was great. Of course Tenryu and Onita also have some highlights against each other. This was a great time to advance the feud here and showcase some underneath talent in a violent setting.

This was pretty great from the entrances to Patterson/Brisco hamming it up. Brisco was still pretty lively and turns in a spirited effort that culminates in a big pop when he gets the win. Patterson tearing off his shirt allows Ross to get in some good lines. *1/2

I don't really get Debra's appeal and never have. That said Sable was annoying as hell with her grind and statement but she did have some assets here to still get cheers.

Action looked good here to me and I like the way these two always match up. The finish was a mess with the Steiners attacking and another awful chair shot for 1999 where Bret pastes Goldberg. Disappointing ending.

This was a mess on every level. Piper is still being protected fully which annoys me and then we get the bullshit finish galore with all the hijinks resulting in Flair winning only for grey-haired face Bischoff to reverse the decision and Piper and Bischoff embrace. This is awful.

Such a weird choice in retrospect to give Rick a push and reunite the Steiners together.
