  1. GAB 1993: 1. Too Cold Scorpio/ Marcus Bagwell vs. Arn Anderson/Paul Roma - Good energetic opener that allows the heel team to go over and look impressive in doing so 2. Paul Orndorff vs. Johnny B. Badd - Solid TV title bout with Paul winning here 3. Sid Vicious vs. Ron Simmons 4. Ric Flair vs. Bobby Eaton - Flair return bout and still potraying that tweener role 5. Hollywood Blondes vs. Steamboat/Regal - Regal is a face going in, heel coming out 6. Dustin Rhodes vs. Rick Rude - Time limit draw setting up iron man match at Beach Blast 7. Vader vs. Cactus Jack - Jack return in non-title street fight 8. Sting vs. Davey Boy Smith - #1 Contendership for Heavyweight Title
  2. Rock/Rousey vs. Steph/HHH Hogan/Cena vs. Taker/Austin (all four retire) Brock vs. Daniel Bryan (WWE Championship) Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns (US Championship) Sami Zayn vs. Seth Rollins (IC Title Ladder Match) Dean Ambrose/Dolph Ziggler vs. Tyson Kidd/Cesaro (Tag Titles) Sasha Banks vs. Paige (Divas) Andre The Giant Battle Royal
  3. Is anyone that low on King of the Ring 1993? That feels pretty universally praised for good booking on WWF's standpoint and good match quality. The 2004 TPI is held as the holy grail on indy wrestling tournaments for a while. Some matches I really liked and others I didn't but overall a great collection of indy talent.
  4. The games here were all winners and great stuff, I still say for the super card game, you give the venue, but each person has to bet on match orde they can name.
  5. Do you have a list Zenjo? I like comparing my year end lists with yours.
  6. Parv, the gate argument is offensive. People but tickets and are planning mania trips in droves months before a main event match is announced.
  7. Had a morning to digest: 1. Opening ladder match: Kind of zoned out on these to be honest. We know what we are going to get in some cool spots and some in the moment intrigue. We got that here but not a whole lot else. Honestly, shocked at how people just accept Bryan being the IC champ right now. Maybe he will elevate that dead title somehow but with 16 years at least of mediocrity at this point plus the historical booking of Bryan for the past couple of years, I will remain pessimistic about that. I also think the selling of him being a champion leaving Mania was completely weak and some sort of spin. ***1/4 2. Orton vs. Rollins was a fine match with a great finish. That sad, some of the early ratings for this match are legit insane to me. How you can like this match much better than HHH vs. Bryan last year is baffling to me since both had fairly simple match structures but last year's match had much smarter control work by HHH and a greater overarcing story. THis was a good match with a great finish propelling it to that. *** 3. Sting vs. HHH was "THIS IS YOUR LIFE" as a wrestling match. I have often said ROck vs. Hogan is the toughest match to judge, we now have a new match. I think rewatching this match down the road will be a chore knowing the run ins and the logic gaps were something else here. It went over about as good as it could I suppose with HHH winning of all things so that is an accomplishment. Ill just say **1/2 and call it a day 4. Divas match was fine. Not trying to be one of those "piss break" fans but there wasn't much to analyze here.** 5. Rusev entrance was epic, maybe one of the best in wrestling history. Match was really good. It had a good length, compelling story and a great storyline that the crowd couldn't accept because we hate John Cena. I concur with Parv that I see no problem in Cena going over here and think Rusev will be fine with his allure overall. Cena doing new moves at this stage is great to see. ***1/2 HHH/Steph vs. Rock/Rousey was a great coup by WWE. Rousey is really the top person in UFC at this point so this felt like a combination of territory crossover and sport celebrity mixture. 6. Takers allure is waning and this match was decent but nothing exciting which was a best case scenario. One more match for him and he is done. **3/4 7. Main event was epic here. I think I agree with Child's line of analysis the most that I think the finish really ruined the tone of the match so far which bothered me the most. An epic war marred by too smart for its own good booking. I do also agree to Charles that this was a cheat. MITB can be restricting and ROllins pinning Brock is a little eh but at least if Roman had rocked him to the brink, Rollins could have took advantage and then we could have had some interesting development with ROman and Rollins staring at each other building intrigue aso to whether they are on the same page or not. ****1/2 for the match as I think in ring it was amazing up to the finish.
  8. Just got Easter bunny pictures with the boy. Got some buffalo dip, homemade guacamole, and other snacks for the show proper. Always excited to watch mania.
  9. Not really because while Cena, Hogan, etc have certainly had promotion from the company, there is empirical evidence showing how well they drew as a box office draw and overall main stream personality. Shawn has empirical evidence against that yet gets lumped into the same lexicon based on objective adjectives like show stopper and Mr, Wrestlemania.
  10. I'm amazed at how much clout the Hall match vs Austin has for me. Leaving that out and his first mania, he was aces on everything else. Tack on his moment at WM 25 which is cool as hell and he's absolutely a contender.
  11. Will is joined by Place2Be's Scott and Johnny Sorrow (Titans, Brainbuster) as they recap the 2015 WWE Hall of Fame. We go over our favorite moments from each induction as well as our favorite moments from the careers of the Hall of Famers. Was this one of the best Hall of Fame ceremonies ever? Listen and find out! http://placetobenation.com/2015-hall-of-fame-reaction-show/
  12. Some more Fujiwara showcase wrestling. I thought this was some great grappling built around escapes and was worked snuggly and effectively. The problem I had at times was the lack of desperation and escalation within the match. Kido was fairly limited in this setting to me which also hampered things overall. A nice showcase if nothing else. ***
  13. This was some inconsistent rulings but I digress and Tunney was presented as a Roger Godell level dope. I really enjoyed this one too and it caps a great night for the Hitman wrestling three distinct matches. The false finish works out well and they go long after that leading to the victory roll allowing Bret to pull it out. I did think the crowd was fairly quiet during the transitions of this match overall. Lawler's attack is awesome with the throne shot being my favorite. WWF has some momentum coming out of this show. ***3/4
  14. This brings up some bad memories for my childhood. Hogan did a good job all things considered in putting Yoko over by not slamming him, letting him kick out of the leg drop after the Hulk up (when has that happened before?) and losing relatively clean, flaming camera aside. The main event booking has been stunted with Hogan gone but now with Yoko on top, at this moment it looks like things are turning around. I think the most glaring thing is that WWF doesn't have the in ring work or the cool storylines in 1993 whereas almost every other promotion has had one or the other and in most cases both.
  15. Great promo before the match. Bret knows how to work a compelling face vs. face match as he had great matches in 92 with Piper, 93 here, and 94 with Kid with that as the basis. This may be the best of that bunch although I need to watch the Kid match again. I am always surprised for some reason at just how good a match this is as it feels like one of the 20 best WWF matches of the 90's possibly. The work starts out basic and just advances with added intensity and each guy going for more underhanded tactics. Another clever finish too and a good sign of respect from Perfect at the end. ****1/4
  16. I need to rewatch the Rumble match but this was a treat. Razor has a cool gimmick going on right now where any roll up or nearfall is treated seriously by the fans and he could be upset by any wrestling but yet he still feels like a threat. Bret takes a lot of this match and works well but Razor seems to gain some confidence coming out of this one even in defeat. Nice opener. ***1/4
  17. This crazy bastard may be having another surprise tomorrow too.
  18. http://placetobenation.com/good-will-wrestling-mister-wrestlemania/ WrestleMania weekend is upon us and Good Will Wrestling's Mania Week is drawing to a close. Will is joined by Johnny Sorrow (Titans of Wrestling) and his producer, Matt Denton (Brainbuster!) to decide who wins the Mr. WrestleMania crown. WWE doctrine says Shawn Michaels is Mr. WrestleMania. We look at Michaels' Mania run but also examine the runs of a dozen other superstars to see who should really hold the crown of Mr. WrestleMania. HBK... Taker... Hogan... Savage... Cena... Edge???? Listen and find out!
  19. Will, HHH vs Brock at mania 29 is my go to for recent vintage hhh vanity. I know Aubrey was in attendance and said it was awesome but I was in attendance too and it was a chore. I also sat ten feet from Scott and he doesn't have any overwhelming connection to that match either.
  20. In Aubrey defense, it is easy to get you and Scott confused based on how much you each like HHH
  21. Will is joined by Kris Zellner (Exile on Badstreet) and Pete & Johnny from the TItans of Wrestling. We'll run down the WrestleMania card, match by match, examine the booking leading up to the show and predict the winners. And of course, we can't discuss Curtis Axel and Mizdow enough!!! http://placetobenation.com/good-will-wrestling-wrestlemania-31-preview/
  22. If your starting in 90, excite series is a good template and any expansion can be provided off of that.
  23. Pete, did ROH confirm it will be Tuesday for the VOD. That is one thing they really need to work on is turning those around quicker.
  24. Misawa vs. Kawada 10/92 I would say watch the Taue vs. Kawada match from the 93 Carnival 6/1/93 Kawada vs. Kobashi October 1993 12/3/93 5/21/94 6/3/94 Misawa vs. Kawada 11/94 1/95 Misawa vs. Taue Carny Final 6/9/95 7/95 Kawada vs. Misawa 7/95 Taue vs. Kobashi 10/95 12/95 RWTL final That is a good 15 pack of matches to give you a general sense of the feud overall
  25. I agree that the exposure means more than the actual age and also fully understand some things have a time and place stamp to them, ECW to me is the biggest example. The Fujinami claim that he is bigger than Savage sounds ridiculous on the surface level but just analyzing their drawing in their respective companies, it is an arguable point.
