I am intrigued by this feud as it looks like the Dudleys may have someone to go toe to toe with them and we can get some intense brawling. This was a good start that had some effective brawling in the crowd and some advanced violence even for ECW standards with the burning thumbtack table that got a huge reaction from the crowd. The Dudley's all in all have probably been my favorite characters in ECW history while watching these years. ***

This was better than I imagined and Bam Bam was more put together which was refreshing to see. The JOnesboro card that night would have been fun to go to.

This for sure has to be in contention of the best Thunder matches. Maybe the REy vs. Juvi match that made the 98 set. This had a really hot opening that made me believe it was going to be a schmozz after a few minutes only for it to settle down into a great wrestling match. I must marvel at DDP that while his heel turn felt out of the blue, he now in just a month has honed the role down and feels really sleazy and despicable eliciting hardly any positive reaction from the fans. Benoit is now a face and I can't remember if he had a falling out with Arn or what. The finish here sucks and ever so slightly dips this below great range but I am glad we had these types of matches on Thunder to show even this late, WCW consistently had better in ring matches on a given week. ***3/4

DId Mad USA really say Macho Man ends with a M. Pretty bad promo for Savage and gang and again this whole angle feels really lost and lame.

Konnan took offense that anyone could not like rap so he beats up Curt.

The lipstick thing is fucking awful. What is Savage even trying to say. I really hate this angle and Savage is completely done by 1999.

I am very excited to revisit the Rap is Crap angle as it was probably my favorite thing from WCW in 1999 The Tommy Boy Stuff was whatever and holy shit did WCW show how many other endeavors they had going on or what during this show.

Nitro Grill honestly looks pretty lame all things considered and Nash and Sting having fun digs at each other is annoying. Sting without the face paint just felt completely odd.

Weird mish mash of promotion for the game. I still say Revenge was the best game WCW ever had.

Clips from a newscast in Las Vegas announcing the death of Owen. Still can remember all of the ancillary things that happened the next morning in school when I discovered what had happened.

Excellent match and draining at 15 minutes. I go back and forth whether this or their 30 minute 1997 match is my favorite. Yammamoto used his size here to try to ground KOhsaka but he had to be ever weary of the strikes and leg submissions of TK. My favorite moments was the kidney punches that each person peppered the other with sickening thuds. The ending strike exchange felt dramatic and opened the match up big time. I was surprised with the result of Yammamoto winning but it felt well deserved. ****1/4

Even without the Owen tragedy, I dont understand this program as Nash should be pissed with Savage and why does he care about Hart going after Goldberg. He all of a sudden is a company guy on screen? Wasn't he trying to destroy the company for most of the past three years? Dumb shit all around.

I am not a HHH fan but his escalation up the card has been fun to follow again in retrospect knowing the end game. I never thought these two crafted a classic match together including the famed NWO 2001 match that we analyzed well on the top 100 PTBN Roundtable. However, this match had some of the brawling aspects of that match which were the best parts. As a result, we had a good match here where again HHH didn't embarass himself hanging with the top guy. I think objectively you can see why he was given a chance in the upper card as he hasn't fell on his face yet in what we have seen. The finish with Taker hanging on the symbol provided a cool visual heading into the PPV but kind of showed how stunt style wrestling has become in 1999. So far a beer truck has been driven, monster truck, Bossman hung, Austin thrown off a bridge, and a unholy wedding. Taker repelling on a freaky symbol seems tame in comparison and we aren't five months into the year yet. There wasn't much of anywhere to go. ***

Bigelow is with DDP now and man does his hot debut feel like eons ago. Also, class of WCW to give us the PPV main event on the next Nitro they show. The ending of this was so fucking bad. Savage vs. Nash was awful and the lipstick stuff is horrendous. I can't believe some drunkard got fired up enough to charge the ring for this shit as it is a wrestlecrap special.

I actually was shocked at how stiff Storm was working here. It wasn't Hansen level but after seeing him throw weapon shots before, I thought he laid it in a decent amount here and made it seem at least credible. The story of Dawn Marie and Francine was fun and Francine giving Cyrus the bronco buster was a crowd pleasing moment. I do think Francine was the natural progression from Sensational Sherri as a female manager in wrestling. Storm secures the win here and the Impact Players continue to be pushed really strong. ***1/4

Vader was willing to work places that paid him well. He found a market for that in Japan. I have no doubt if vader could have had a career as a football player for life, he would have. Vader doesn't strike me as much of a student of the game as he had his general theme of working most opponents. Regardless of vader my general point is that individuals like Brock and others in history have entered pro wrestling as a career and not a passion project. Why does Luger get more lambasted compared to them? My only summation is the attitude among Flair and others like Brody for Luger with the clout they had with the newsletter writers at the time.
