  1. I don't know if it was the host upgrade (Kidding) or what, but this show was awesome. I think it was the direct result of a list like this being geared more towards nostalgia and fond memories live than actual in ring workrate and quality. As I was going along with my own personal list, I thought to myself that Goldberg vs. Hogan for sure would be my #1 and was delighted to hear Tim mention it. Shows like this are really a treat to listen to as you get the basis behind why we all are still so invested in pro wrestling. Awesome stuff guys.
  2. Watched all NOAH from this year that has made tape except for 2/4/15. I think at this point in time, they will be the #2 Japanese promotion I invest in along with New Japan because I like some of their guys and the Suzuki-gun stuff gives some good crossover. NOAH's juniors are really interchangeable to me. Kotoge, Harada, Ohara, Kenou all can be the same person as far as I am concerned and I have watched four shows recently. They just seem to have similar move-sets and their execution and putting together a coherent match is suspect. The Kotoge vs. Harade match that main evented 1/28 was especially painful. I really think Morishima has kind of find his niche. He has had numerous ups and downs the past decade but after a fun match on 1/10 with Kitamiya, Kitamiya joined his ranks and they have been a consistently good duo together with a clear view of heirarchy within the team. Kitamiya is my favorite of the underneath NOAH guys and someone I am pegging for advancement and growth throughout 2015. Suzuki-gun's multi-man matches have all been good up to this point and worked differently. To me the highlight was the ten man elimination tag which featured some good strategy and dramatic moments. So far Suzuki-gun has run through NOAH and I will be interested to see who wins the major singles and tag matches coming up. If I had to guess right now I would say Suzuki becomes the GHC and Nicholls/Haste retain against Archer and DBS Jr.
  3. I always want to like Steamboat-Austin more than I do. Not a bad match per say but uneven to me and no where near a top 100. There is also better choices from these two guys together on the network. We have plenty of WWE sacred cows coming up. Some we praise, others gets skewed like crazy. I do hope we are able to expound upon why we either like/dislike the respective matches. Bryan vs. Ziggler is a good opener but again no where near a top 100 and Ziggler was pretty bad on offense in this match when he was in control. Thanks for listening.

  7. Good to see Flair back and he starts off feeling like the man again and calling everyone out without setting out his exact plans for everyone to see just yet.
  8. Agree Jesse was annoying here shoe horning in his Smokey Mountain line and what Dr. Tom is a dr. of. Match was frantic and good. The interaction of the SMW overlapping with WCW creates a nice feel. I am waiting on WCW to fall off a cliff but honestly besides the white castle of fear vignette, they have hit on everything so far two months into 1993. ***
  9. Match was great as a sprint and had a frantic, organic feel that got across the on the fly nature of it. Big brawl to empty out and we have a wild scene with pretty much the whole locker room at war with each other. This disc has been great stuff after great stuff without letting up one bit. **1/2
  10. I get some of the reactions on this and I hope at some point I could have a poignant podcast discussing race in wrestling but this was absolutely a promo that would present Tracy as a face in the promotion of SMW while not being overly offensive to get the "fringe" people to go against him.
  11. This is Memphis wrestling. Eddie gives a great promo that really went through a spectrum of emotions. He said more here with more meaning and range in five minutes than almost anyone on tv today. Then "I'm Too Sexy" fires up and Prentice struts to ringside in a great moment too. Gilbert and Christopher jaw jack each other popping the crowd. Action is good but rudimentary while it lasts before we get a nice brawl with Jarrett and Doug Gilbert involved. I loved all facets of this. *1/2
  12. This looks awful watching this in order as you just saw a WCW PPV with plenty of highlights and then you get this shit. Everything looks like its a grasp at 1987 as even Vince's suit looks way out of style. I thought Hogan's promo was pretty generic and him giving credit to the "big man upstairs" always makes me smile. Him begging the Manhattan Center to cheer him on for the posedown at the end was a sad state of affairs.
  13. Ho hum six man which sadly makes it better than most of the stuff on the first half of the year on Raw. Tatanka picks up a victory to stay undefeated and gain momentum vs. Shawn at Mania.
  14. This was good to me to create some intrigue to what Hulk would say later on in the show. Hogan takes a more introspective tone which is greatly appreciated.
  15. Wow, this match gets better and better every time I watch. I think it has been enhanced with some of the great WWE gimmick matches that I have watched recently. I liken it just one step below something like Brock vs. Cena from Extreme Rules. Sting feels like a true ace for once and was vicious and stiff with his offense while also looking graceful. Vader is a bully but he is tough as shit and you have to respect that in a champion. I just eat this stuff up and was completely engaged when Vader has the blood gushing from his ear. This is gritty, violent, dramatic and outstanding in every facet. ****3/4
  16. Finish run to this was also slightly better than when I have watched this match previous. I always forget that Flair does commentary which shows how good of a job he does. Cool to see Barry win the big one for once.
  17. A treat to watch here. This felt like the best possible touring style match for these guys and that is not an insult in the slightest. They highlighted all of their strengths and had a bevy of unique spots to sprinkle into a tried and true formula. Even the RNR getting the win at the end felt like a great feel-good victory moment. ***1/2
  18. This match is great. It progresses well, Scorpio looks fantastic on the mat and with his high impact moves and dives. In addition, Benoit heels it up and provides a great contrast. Add into a finish that came off excellent and made the crowd go nuts and you have one of the best openers in WCW PPV history up to this point. ****
  19. 2/1/15 New Japan World 4:30 AM Eastern (1) Sho Tanaka & Yohei Komatsu vs. Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish - Fun opener that carried a rudimentary theme. I may have liked a little more offense from the young guns as this had a pretty good heat segment from Red Dragon and then the comeback was stunted short when they picked up the victory. **3/4 (2) Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Satoshi Kojima, Jushin Thunder Liger & Tiger Mask IV vs. Manabu Nakanishi, Captain New Japan, Mascara Dorada & Jay White I think this thrown together 8 mans of New Japan have found the perfect match of guys that can do short sequences well and stay motivated in these types of matches. Tenzan is extremely limited but works hard and can do his big stuff. Kojima isn't much better. Liger and Tiger Mask can be looked at to have some fun comedy and flying sequences. Dorado is a fresh face. Jay Devitt did well again with the stuff he was asked. Capt. New Japan is the stalwart of these matches and Nakanishi is, well Nakanishi. Nothing I will remember two weeks from now, but an enjoyable 8 minutes for the second match on the show. **1/2 (3) Ryusuke Taguchi, KUSHIDA & Alex Shelley vs. Kenny Omega, Matt & Nick Jackson This was the best Omega has looked in this gimmick IMO as he showed more ass here and focused on his execution and less on his theatrics. I still didn't think he was good as we got some dramatic selling during the early portion and he still insists on doing the chainsaw spot, but it was an improvement. I also thought Taguchi looked real motivated here and was in prime position for all of his spots and hung with the Bucks. Finish was all over the place and full of fun spots. Beatdown of Time Splitters by Red Dragon after the match added more fuel to that feud. *** (4) Tetsuya Naito & Tomoaki Honma vs. Toru Yano & Kazushi Sakuraba Naito and Sakuraba had a good segment here with Naito locking on a leg grapevine submission that looked nasty. Honma of course is going to be great in any setting. This was an off night for Yano and his comedy stylings didn't seem to really mix with what else was going on in the match. He unfortunately got the predictable win on Honma too. **1/2 (5) Kazuchika Okada & Yoshi-Hashi vs. Bad Luck Fale & Tama Tonga Stinky match. Korakuen wasn't as unglued as they can be for this entire show, but I especially thought Okada got a weak reaction with some of his stuff including the dropkick spot here. The overall story told with him will be interesting. Prevailing thought seems to be that he will extinguish Fale at New Japan Cup. Okada winning New Japan Cup is intriguing. I could actually see him challenging Nakamura and winning the IC Belt at Invasion Attack if Tana retains vs. Styles. Anyway, TOnga and Hashi added much of nothing to the proceedings here. ** (6) Yuji Nagata & Togi Makabe vs. Shinsuke Nakamura & Tomohiro Ishii Good match but one I hoped more from. It essentially was two singles matches and that disrupted the flow for me. Nakamura continues to be excellent but I do wonder if Nagata can keep up as some of his offense now in this tour hasn't looked as pin-pointed due to Nagata being slightly out of position. The Makabe/Ishii segments were fine but felt like a rehash of stuff we have seen a multitude of times before now and that match is losing its luster a decent amount in my eyes. Finish was good with Nagata securing a big win heading into the Sendai show on 2/14. *** (7) Hiroshi Tanahashi, Hirooki Goto & Katsuyori Shibata vs. Karl Anderson, Doc Gallows & Yujiro Takahashi I liked this main event better than the previous show. I especially thought Gallows and Shibata had a good slugfest exchange in the middle of this. Tana was a good FIP and Yujiro didn't totally annoy me so this was a success all around. Tana hits the Styles Clash again and I'm hoping for some payback once AJ comes over. **1/2 Overall Thoughts: Fun show but a disappointing one for Korakuen and the Nakamura tag and opener didn't reach levels I thought they might. This show had less heights than the Nakamura tag from 1/30 but also didn't have the lows of that show final two matches. Still, expectations were raised given the environment so I am not sure if I liked this show or 1/30 better overall.
  20. It worked wonders for me Brett (Zoo). Most I have done digging through the archives since I got the network and a lot of fun to cherry pick moments of the company from the Rock N Wrestling era on.
  21. You are correct Jesse. I wouldn't say Misawa was pushed out of nowhere but with the exodus of Tenryu and co. for SWS, a shock was needed immediately so the traditional system of guys being underneath for a multitude of years (MIsawa was around 8 years in at this point) was set aside and it took the cleverness of the upset against Jumbo to really establish himself as being able to hang with the main crew. I don't think any match has went so far as making one person as 6/8/90 with Misawa. Good listen and this set of matches is one I'm less familiar with overall. The only thing I have strong feelings on is 5/25/92 which when I watched the complete version was ***** for me and something where I want to write a long form article at some point on it being the best southern tag in history.
  22. That line is my favorite of the whole series
