Iamthedoctor, what benefit would be provided from old vs. old facing each other besides some warmed over nostalgia that doesn't fill the void of the wrestling business being a continuous cycle? I also would be intrigued to know who from this era can't lace the boots of the legends you are projecting up.
  2. Thanks shoe, couple of times I got tongue tied, but I hope at least my enthusiasm came across well.
  3. Dug this show a ton, surprised on one hand to see Atlas portrayed as the biggest star of the three coming out of all of them as on the surface level, he is #3 to me. I am really fascinated by Ernie Ladd as a figure in wrestling overall. Did Bobo get an NWA title match before someone like Sailor Art Thomas? Hopefully, we get more drops like these on the network.
  4. http://placetobenation.com/super-no-vacancy-1-new-japan-21415-new-beginning-sendai/ Link to my new podcast discussing this show, will have a written quick hits review soon.
  5. http://placetobenation.com/super-no-vacancy-1-new-japan-21415-new-beginning-sendai/ Welcome to the Super No Vacancy Podcast! Chad Campbell gives an introduction of what the podcast hopes to accomplish and then runs down the New Japan 2/14/15 New Beginning Sendai show with detailed analysis. Please leave any feedback to me on twitter @bigboysplaywcw. ICHIBAN!
  6. Negro casas actually. We of course have a ton of him but only the santo 87 match pretty much from the entire decade. If that match is any indication, he was pretty damn elite. Most of my top answers are lucha guys. The top US would be bock from the 70s and tommy rich Georgia omni and big show footage.
  7. Could someone point me to any discussion on lucha from 2000-2001 besides the Atlantis vs. Villano III big matches. I have looked over Lynch's list the past couple of days and there is a ton of interesting stuff on there with the usual suspects like Casas/Panther/Atlantis but also a lot that could go either way with Mr. Neibla, Olimpico, etc. Feels like a lot of hidden gems could be buried around this time period.
  8. Tully was the only one in my 20 wrestlers better than Arn that I had to pause to think about. Interested to see where others land on this debate.
  9. I thought this was cool and played with a nice edge of reality instead of bischoff shouting on commentary "WE KNOW WHO THIS IS".
  10. The best one of these since the very beginning but I am still ready to hit the eject button on the whole feud.
  11. I can see how this would be good setup to some but I would have preferred more of a Shawn is hip, young to Bret is traditional tilt on the whole build. That is a prickly path to make Bret not seem old that he may not have bought but I think he would have came off better than he does here saying that Mexicans aren't tough and being bitter towards Shawn. My favorite moments was the actual training with the contrast in the seasons.
  12. They played this up to the extreme and Goldust does nothing half-assed as he slides around Piper for a peak. The lesbian line by Piper was ridiculous, but hey that is kind of ROddy's gimmick. I also liked the soundbite annotation from Lawler on commentary. This got me pumped to watch the Backlot Brawl.
  13. Really violent match that ended just at the right amount of time when I was getting sick of it. This seemed to be more about the viciiouness of the spots instead of the spectacle, blood and variety of weapons that can plague some other ECW brawls. The post match stuff was awesome and note-perfect for Cactus. "Give it up for John" was a sincere touching moment. ***1/ 2
  14. "Slap Me". Never knew you went to this show Loss as between this and WM 17, you have some great attitude era highlights. This was awful for the heat and Val continues to be the person from this era that hasn't held up at all for me from a working or gimmick standpoint. He wins the IC title here and I yawn.
  15. Big Skydome crowd for this. Nice last minute heat segment with Vince strutting around and getting the pin. He really got over on Austin a lot in the first two months of 1999.
  16. Meanie naked and in blue is not the most attractive image I have seen. Goldust covered in the blue paint had me thinking of Tobias Funke. Shoddy stuff for a mid card feud.
  17. Finally, the Rey match from 96 I have been looking forward. This was a great spotfest but also had some semblance of a story going on and didn't completely rely on playing up to the ECW faithful. Juvy was also exceptional in this and overall this is my favorite match of theirs that I can recall seeing. ****
  18. Pillman looks great in that costume with those sunglasses. He is calling Shane out and I am suddenly loving ECW at the moment.
  19. The Pillman vs. Douglas stuff may be the most I have ever cared about Douglas. Pillman putting the crying kid in front of him was great television, but kind of frightening in its reality. Now that I have a child, that resonated with me a lot more than if I had watched this a year ago.
  20. Seems early for PG-13 to be leaving us and the go away angle wasn't hyped as well as it should have been. We get a straight promo from them on their depature. USWA is still feeling like the USWA of the early decade so far, Sid in suit on commentary aside.
  21. The tag division stuff is nothing I am really invested in at this point. Pillman again is disturbing talking about Eric stripping him of everything as he was naked. Overall and effective Pulp Fiction.
  22. Really Pete? This stuff has brought brand new life for me with Pillman. It is so unique and raw from most of the people playing the crazy gimmick in wrestling that it really works.
  23. Watched this match two nights ago and thought it was fine but well short of the high praise of Loss and Shoe. Watched it again this morning and it grabbed me as fantastic. The struggle in the opening caida is something to pay attention to but really magnificent and better than all but a few lucha matches of the 90's. The mixture of styles was also great to see as the slight contrasts only enhanced the overall output. Casas continually doing little rudo things and that culminating in the low blow in the second fall set the scene for Ultimo to become incredibly sympathetic in enemy territory. His babyface performance is the only thing that falters this from being one of the best matches I have ever seen. As it stands, it is damn great with a ton of attention to detail. ****1/2
  24. Action looked good here. I am kind of bummed they did the lame tour champion thing with Sting as it always feels cheap. Anyway, Vader is able to regain the title and go on his lengthy run. This title change was not acknowledged on tv correct?
