Really bad filming with the POV honestly looking like a porno flick. Torrie does look damn good and I don't even remember the payoff.

[1999-02-08-WCW-Nitro] Hulk Hogan and NWO Black and White
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in February 1999
Hogan is setting the seeds as he builds up Brian Adams as the B&W leader, then does the same to Stevie and Vince. I guess none of the other members own a tv set.- 5 replies

Yep, I'm officially done of these and have become sympathetic to Eric. Not the objective of this overall. WCW is looking progressively worse in February as in January as nothing much is clicking except Flair on promos currently.

[1999-02-07-Toryumon-King of Dragon] Great Sasuke vs Magnum Tokyo
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in February 1999
I liked this better on the mat I believe as it was engaging and nothing was relinquished without a fight. Tokyo was able to potray his personality and show some flash without overly complicating things. As the match advanced, I still was engaged but less so and didn't think the way they pulled over the magnitude of what TOkyo winning. Very good but honestly below most of the Mich Pro and Toryumon stuff for the year. ***1/2- 5 replies

[1999-02-06-ECW-TV] Shane Douglas, Francine, Chris Candido & Tammy Sytch
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in February 1999
Francine is going to show her boobs to the ground. What a swell guy Shane is. Unfortunately, they get attacked by Tammy and Candido in the entrance.. I have no idea who is supposed to be the heel and face in this feud and where they were eventually headed. Shane feels even more lost in ECW without the belt.- 4 replies

Hayes as the old legend coming into town is awesome and so much more welcomed than his shill act on WWF. Petty interesting way to keep Hales involved with all these guys from the past.

Im still on board with this one and where it goes as I do think Stacey has been pretty interesting in her interaction and it has presented a showcase for Lawler. This wasn't the best iteration of the feud so far but did play its role.

One year later, I think this show is actually enhanced in importance than it was even at the time with what happened subsequently throughout the year, ditto with Brock in how he was booked, this being the last Punk match in foreseeable future, and the WWE debut of Rusev. Even minor facets like the tag belts never meaning as much after NAO winning them here seems like a talking point worth discussing. I went to Rumble and Mania last year and still am unsure in history which will end up being the most significant show.

Finished all of 1/18 in my new initiative to watch all New Japan from 2015 that makes tape: 1. Tomohiro Ishii, Gedo and Yoshi Hashi vs. Angel de Oro, Jushin Liger & Tiger Mask - Standard opening stuff but Liger and Tiger Mask matching was cute. Still with only Oro as the rare guy in there, this felt like an interchangeable six man we will see 50 times throughout the year and leaves your brain as soon as you are done watching. ** 2. Cavernario Barbaro and Okumura vs. Kushida and Triton - I thought this was a good bit of fun and Okumura and Cavernario make a good team especially the Kushida and Cavernario interactions. Cavernario's dives looked good and he helped himself tremendously in getting over with the live crowd. **3/4 3. Ryusuke Taguchi, Tetsuya Naito, and La Sombra vs. Captain New Japan, Mascara Don and Mascara Dorada - Really just a comedy heavy match, some was charming, most IMO was not. Nakanishi doing his rolling backflip was the highlight for me. I can see some fans for this as seeing it as enjoyable comedy but it wasn't for me and actually featured some workers I would like to see go in Naito, Sombra, and Dorada. *1/2 4. NWA Welterweight Championship – Volador Jr. © vs. Gran Guerrero - Those wings of Volador Jr. I agree with stomper that this felt like a general third fall in title lucha. It actually showed me how though the first couple of falls can seem rushed and insiginficant at times, they can sprinkle in important narratives to the overall match as this just felt like them going out and doing some spots but it wasn't as impressive as other stuff on the show and they didn't have storyline or basis for why they were performing in this way. ** 5. Mexican National Light Heavyweight Championship – Mephisto vs. Stuka Jr - Memphisto mask was disturbing to me. Stuka impressed with his dives because I can see some people being weary of him initially because of his pudgy body frame. Another run of the mill match IMO where nothing was dreadful but it wasn't really memorable either. **1/4 6. Hiroshi Tanahashi, Stigma & Mistico vs. Kazuchika Okada, Shinsuke Nakamura & Polvora - Disappointing, complete autopilot effort here. Only Naks interaction with Tana and the slight Okada/Tana stuff created any interest.. The luchadors were bit players and not smooth with their execution in this one. I thought this was the worst match of the night and by far the least sucessful one in presenting some sort of alternative. * 1/2 7. Atlantis vs. Ultimo Guerrero - If you are a cherry picker, I would say this is the only match on the show you need to watch along with maybe the Cavernario tag. This did a good job of crafting a storyline of what they have been going for since UG lost the mask as well as allowing him to get some retribution. Atlantis certainly wasn't rudo-ing it up here but there were slight tinges on his normal execution that built up sympathy for UG throughout the match and with the Korakuen hardcores that paid off when he received his victory. ***1/4 Decent show I guess overall but a lot felt pretty meh to me besides the main event. I do hope Night 2 is better.

I thought I liked this a lot better than Loss but we are pretty close on ratings as while I don't think this was a great match, it did fall into the very good range for me. I also thought it was really polished in the wake of seeing some of the slop going on in 1996 lucha so far although that year was aspiring for a higher level of difficulty here. Casas as an upper energy tecnico remains true to his overall character while being fun within the crowd. Santo didn't do anything outer-worldly here but was right there for all his big spots and him them as good as he usually does. I liked the nut shot sequence in the second fall and the final fall with Perro Agayuo getting interjected and having a go at especially Bestia making them get DQ'd. Was this Perro's return to EMLL? ***1/2

[1999-02-03-GAEA-Premium League Finals] Meiko Satomura vs Toshie Uematsu
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in February 1999
Toshie is really someone that has came out of nowhere before I started watching this footage and now I want to seek out all of her high-end stuff. Here I thought this mixed some great mat work with some brutal strikes that didn't overstay its welcome. Satomura looks to be becoming one of the big names in joshi and Toshie was right there with her. ****- 6 replies

[1999-02-01-WWF-Raw] Vince McMahon hunts for Stone Cold
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in February 1999
I just criticized Mick for being too comedic and this series made me a liar because this was certainly comedic but also pretty damn great. I agree that this thing couldn't be done all the time but it is great as a one off type stuff. -
This is funny but again a little too comedic for a feud that has been brewing for three months now and heading into Mania season.

[1999-02-01-WCW-Nitro] Kevin Nash and Lex Luger promo

No way was that a plant I believe. Lackadaisical promo with them certain they are winning. Nash/Luger should have really put their hair up here and lost the match.- 4 replies

I really liked this and you do see natural chemistry between Lex and Liz and they make Luger still to be a big deal as the catalyst for the Goldberg beatdown. These NWO B&W skits have regained their swagger.

[1999-01-31-WWF-Halftime Heat] The Rock vs Mankind (Empty Arena)
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in January 1999
This was fun but call me old-fashioned but I was a little taken aback by the person that was about to become champion having spaghetti sauce on his head and one shoe on. It just felt a little sloppy I guess especially with such a big audience. Their were too many contrived spots even up to the famous forklift camera angle. Overall, I was disappointed in this coming off their intense brawl at Rumble. ***- 11 replies

I thought this was awesome and kept my attention up the entire time. Tons of good spots and the heels really working to make things fresh and interesting whenever they were on top. Magnum gives a good babyface performance and this was a rare elimination match for me where the drama increased as the numbers dwindled. ****

I hate that Georgia loop every time just thinking about if that stuff still existed today, I am an hour from every spot on the Thur-Sunday loop.

I watched Holly vs. Brock on Saturday. More intensity was shown in the opening stanza of that than in most of the HIAC between Rollins and Ambrose. Fun sprint.
