[1998-09-28-WWF-Raw] Vince McMahon, The Undertaker and Kane
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1998
So much more great stuff here. Vince gives his reason to the BOD but then gets too big for his britches and takes a hell of a beating with the step shot on the leg looking especially brutal. Backstage on the gurney, MIck offers Vinnie Mac a cool sip from his big gulp. -
[1998-09-28-WWF-Raw] Vince McMahon and Steve Austin
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1998
The Smoking Skull is a thing of the past as the WInged Eagle is back red carpet and all. In one of the first segments of what would be an iconic run of Raw, Austin comes in on a Zamboni truck and clothesline VInce to the fury of the fans. Great stuff. -
So it has come to this. A swerve on what should have been the Starrcade main event and for sure one of the biggest main events of the year. WCW has really felt more desperate as the year has progressed. They have done some things well but it seems like the gaps are widening and we are starting to see the end game for the main braintrust involved. I was amazed that this turn by Hart still got heat and he is in the main event here but certainly is second banana to Hulk and in a upper mid card feud with Sting. (*1/2)

So viable Goldberg opponents: Giant at Road WIld Sting at Fall Brawl DDP at Havoc Jericho at WW3 Hogan rematch at Starrcade This is becoming something I really want to fantasy book as so many options is there. The crowd was electric for this and its a shame it was squashed.

[1998-09-28-WCW-Nitro] Four Horsemen and Eric Bischoff
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1998
Stevie Ray is being presented pretty highly which seems like a miscast. Eric arrests the Horseman getting one up on them and keeping this feud burning strong. Dillenger being included was a nice touch. This was a good way to get heat on Bischoff and not show the feud as so one sided.- 3 replies

That is a good list in argument if Naka. He does have good ability to make something out if nothing.

I think claiming you don't feel like voting fit someone on the basis of a moral standard is ample enough explanation. Anything further will place more on personal feelings and be at the detriment of discussing the values of the worker of those that will rank invader, Benoit, etc.

At least this was kept short. I was surprised Warrior turned the fan running in as a positive for his promo. We are still a month away from this match.

Hogan calling himself ' Wood is one comical thing I didn't remember. Pretty pedestrian grandstand promo by Hulk saying the B&W is taking over and challenging Hart.

[1998-09-27-WWF-Breakdown] Steve Austin vs The Undertaker vs Kane
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1998
No heat at all for this as Taker punches Kane to no reaction when they fight over a pin. THey end up winning with the double chokeslam but there is confusion as to who the champion is. YOU DONT HAVE THIS ANYMORE!!!! -
[1998-09-27-WWF-Breakdown] The Rock vs Ken Shamrock vs Mankind (Cage)
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1998
I didn't like the beginning of this at all with the slow work and lack of cage use. People randomly teaming up and turning. Blah. Then right around the time Rock did the double peoples elbow, this picked up in a huge way. The finishing run was a ton of fun with the crowd getting behind the Rock and Mankind continuing his journey. Shamrock was treated like a two bit player somewhat but I think this was effective for all three men. (**3/4) -
[1998-09-27-WWF-Sunday Night Heat] Steve Austin and Vince McMahon
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1998
Lots going on here as Henry gets beat up by Chyna outside. Austin is dressed in ring crew and beats up VInce and then escapes before the BOD can climb in. I liked this as a lead in to the PPV better than the Raw the previous week. -
I thought this video fit great and Candido dancing to the tone was awesome. ECW is able to present their product well in snap shot music video form. Also in breaking news, Zombie is on the upcoming ECW cd.

[1998-09-26-ECW-TV] Late Breaking News: The Sandman leaves ECW
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1998
I hated the cutaways to somber Joey providing context. Also, Jack Victory man. THey tried and no one gives a shit about him. Rod Price??? WTF. This ends with a big attack from Credible which feels hollow. Sad times for ECW.- 4 replies

We get the long story of Lawler and Carrey on the Man on the Moon set. I had heard the story before so it wasn't news to me but they gave Lawler enough time to deliver it and he is a masterful storyteller, so it remained interesting.

[1998-09-24-WCW-Thunder] Eyes of Ice T-Shirt Commercial
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1998
Pretty weird T-Shirt that wouldn't look great socially I don't imagine. -
I loved Arn attacking stevie Ray. Everyone shined here again except Malenko. I know it is taboo to say now but it is nice to see how much enjoyment Benoit is getting watching Flair cut these promos. That is a tragic backdrop in a way of all of this.

[1998-09-21-WWF-Raw] Mankind vs Ken Shamrock vs The Rock
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1998
Cornette and Shane doing commentary for this is odd as I thought it was Heat. ANyway, this match was disappointing to me and hindered by the 3 way tropes. The BOD show up and again take it to all three men but especially The Rock. Vince is giddy at this but Austin is able to sneak up from behind and steal in a few shots before the BOD make chase. Pretty tame go home angle. (**) -
I was hoping the nugget would beat the shit out of Val. Val couldn't have possibly been seen as the babyface in this feud except by young men with some social issues that haven't been worked out yet. Val returns the favor in the latest video. What a nice guy. (*)

I had forgotten about this which is unfortunate as it was almost as good as last week. First off, Liz looks great. Then, Ric makes a gesture at her when he comes out bringing up their past history. I loved the tidbit on Dillenger and why he would step aside. Bischoff trembling in fear as everyone gives him the Horseman sign is a great visual. I can see this being the crux of Bischoff believing that controversy creates cash, but this was all about the personal vendetta between these two men that was really palpable.
