  1. I loved this as a final hype job. Vince brings everyone out and they start brawling. Austin and Rock pair off a bit as a sign of things to come. Taker dominates before Kane makes his entrance and stares him down as the PPV starts.
  2. This was um not good and while Hales doesn't have the most natural delivery, he seems more believable than Christopher did here. Anyway, we learn Jerry has two previous marriages and that he had two sons. Dundee gets thrown through the mud too to stay relevant and he doesn't take kindly to that.
  3. They at least are setting up the PPV match in January but this has been the type of slow burn feud that shows just because something is drawn out doesn't mean you will still be clamoring for it. Francine is still the highlight of these for me.
  4. I watched this prior to the release and was on the fence. Now, after seeing all the footage, this will be in my top 100 so it should go on but something still doesn't click for me. THey went long and emphasized the spots but I didn't think this had the spark or intricate intense wrestling or body part work to really draw me in. I did like they overtime finish since they have teased a good bit of those lately and things do pick up here before Rey ends up winning. Really good match overall that got a lot of time to develop but not something I would call great. (***1/2)
  5. Not much of a match but all about the booking. Bossman has had a lot of his plans thwarted off. Shane comes out to make the pin to stick it to his dad. Rock is back in Survivor SEries and gives Vince a Rock Bottom and Peoples Elbow as the shows closes. (*3/4)
  6. Vince runs down the Cowboys and then calls out The Rock. He gets Shane instead. Shane and Vince's interactions have gotten good and I have been impressed with Shane's performance. Vince orders Bossman to attack Shane after some choice words but Austin is able to make the save.
  7. Fun hardcore match that featured some good shots and neat spots. This would delve into more goofiness and irrelevance in the upcoming year but it is nice to see this title interspersed in the main event picture. Mick looks great in his tux and wins one for his father. **1/2
  8. We get clips of Mankind getting his haircut and toes clipped. Mick assures us that Vince takes care of his family and this must have cost a pretty penny.
  9. The Deadly Game moniker got over well and fit I liked how good this fireball looked as kind of a nod to how terrible the one at Havoc was.
  10. Jericho does another great promo in what is pretty much his parting shot of relevance in his WCW run. I didn't think Jericho had that classic match in 1998 but his character work was great throughout the year and he still could have been pushed much better.
  11. I liked the video and song even though Konnan lives up to about every hispanic stereotype you could make around this time.
  12. Mean Gene and Hennan are backstage awaiting the arrival of The President. The motorcade comes in and tells them to scram. We cut to the announcer booth and Larry has to leave and salute the one person chanting his name. All of a sudden Hogan and Bischoff comes out. Hogan has on a Yankee toboggan. Hogan declares his Presidency for the United States. There can be a good bit of dissection at the psychology of Hogan in 1998 as it has been a weird year. Seems like he is gone for the year so Starrcade wont have Sting or Hogan.
  13. Bischoff moves on from the Horseman and now has beef again with the Wolfpac. He says them and NWO Hollywood will face off tonight.
  14. Rock was getting some big pops here. Him and VInce's interplay has been really good lately too. We learn that his match tomorrow night has big stakes as if he loses, not only will he not be in the title tournament, but he is fired.
  15. Great tag match. I have become impressed with Delphin as almost every time out, he at least gives an inspired performance. Him and Naniwa worked well together as a team and dominated the front half before the back half was all chaos. The finishing stretch was great with cohesive break ups of the pins and not too much needless stuff being thrown out. Yakushifji ends up getting a flash roll up to a huge pop. Great find. ****
  16. The crowd in Roanoke was hot for this and Tony really got over how special it was to him to be doing this. They gave there typically great promo. This wasn't anything new but it was a ton of fun and with a spirited crowd, it was highly entertaining.
  17. Solid stuff but pretty much the paint by the numbers match for these two. Eddy targets Rey's leg for a while. The time cues were dumb here as it felt really rushed and only like it was a 10-15 minute time limit. I always love the spot of Eddy crotching himself on the post as being an equalizer. The LWO seems just as confused as the rest of us. **1/2
  18. Fun spotfest but pretty mindless and Charles said. It was cool seeing a lot of people I am not that familiar with and that don't get a lot of shine on this footage, but you might as well have thrown any psychology out the door. I can appreciate a good spotfest done well though and this one had most stuff executed cleanly. I thought Ultimo Guererro was the best in the match from the standpoint of being a good base as well as mixing in the most intensity. ***
  19. Wow, this was really good and this Raw overall doesn't get talked up enough for all the seeds it planted for Survivor Series. We first had the stooges paying for their part in the perils of McMahon two weeks ago. This is good enough for McMahon to make good of his guarantee. Then, Austin comes in and Patterson remains loyal. Bossman takes it to Austin and that is a good side feud that has a ton of heat on it. Shane comes in to save Austin and we get a great moment of Boss Man asking Vince, thumbs up or down in regards to Shane. Vince spares him but here comes Taker to beat up Austin. Finally, Kane sets the cage on fire and Austin/Taker team up to beat him up as we fade to black. So much intertwining stuff here that all made sense.
  20. Good little match between these two and Rock was hugely over. I liked the storyline being played out that even thought The Rock won since he didn't win the title, it didn't look like he would advance on to Survivor Series. Also, kudos for Shamrock not making the chairshot back into the face spot look totally contrived. **3/4
  21. Mick gets presented the Hardcore Belt. Vince tells them that he lost a son tonight, but in other respects he gained one too and he pats Mick on the shoulder. I love Vince stopping the wheelchair and his expression when Mick says Thanks Dad. This is great too.
  22. Shaq gets the boot because he doesn't have a backstage pass. Awesome little bit.
  23. Shane is much more of a babyface in Houston. Vince comes out to some great heat. Vince says he wont pass up as the chairman of the WWF until the day he DIES. This is rich listening in 2014. Vince wants to go straight to hell when he dies. Vince in this wheelchair is incredible. Vince relives Shane of his corporate duties. Shane can only be employed if he will be a LOWLY REFEREE. If that doesn't pan out, it is the ring crew for him. Shane has scarred Vince. Vince tells Shane that he is like his Mother. There is some great real life truth wrapped in this promo. Unheralded tremendous stuff from Vince and a little underrated as this was only one small step below the You Violated Me promo. Vince is back on fire and I am glad that things are hot again after the Bang 3:16 misstep.
  24. Jericho touts up his football record but he isn't here to brag. He wishes Goldberg the best in his future endeavors. This was good stuff but again it feels very one-sided.
  25. This was the best Konnan stuff of the year as he gave some logic to Saturn and then actually talked reasonable points to the LWO about Eddy. Eddy had some good comebacks too and this is an angle where you can see both sides. AROD showing up to greet Konnan was a good WTF moment I had no recollection of.
