[1991-04-30-WWF-Primetime Wrestling] Interview: Ultimate Warrior
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
This felt ad libbed to me as Vince and Warrior were stepping all over each other. Warriors outfit is beyond ridiculous and he has some playful interaction with Bobby. I do like how serious Warrior is playing up the Taker attack and Vince has to prod the crowd to get riled up at the end. -
Really liked this one a lot as it represented a old vs. new premise in New Japan that would really come into play later in the year with clear assertion of Muto/Chono. Good beefy action and a dramatic finish with the old guys picking up a big victory. Both all Japan and New Japan had two great shows in April.

Really digging this series so far as Liger gets increasingly pissed during the match after Honaga rips his mask. HOnaga was in his glorious prick best here and the match was better than previous efforts as a result. Fun tournament to showcase the juniors.

This match is a total spot fest and I don't think it is a great match, but I had more fun watching this match as I had in a while as both Liger and Casas busted out a ton of stuff I don't recall from them very often. This wasn't quite the classic I had hoped, but the match was so entertaining, I can't be disappointed

Benoit seemed to have gotten really good from the 1990 stuff we saw until now. He took his impressive spots and put them together to lead this match. I have a soft spot for Honaga so his performance here was not as bad in my eyes as everyone else. Nothing extraordinary but really fun and a good sense of what is in store for the event.

[1991-04-29-AJW] Aja Kong & Bison Kimura vs Manami Toyota & Esther Moreno
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
Yeah this a great match that played off one of my favorite storylines in wrestling. The Toyato/Moreno team actually had a rationale for being so quick and fast paced. Then the ass kicking Moreno takes in the second fall when Jungle Jack gathers their bearings is amazing. Finishing run was really hot and had me on the edge of my seat. Top 10 for the year contender.- 12 replies

Thanks Brain as always for being a loyal listener. I think NWA has more polarizing views than most of the other promotions from the area. Hell people are even arguing over whether Flair is good in some corners.

Would be interested in hearing what you think of Alexander vs. Elgin. I can see it being a match you hate but it is starting to get that Richards vs. Elgin buzz from last year. I think this match was better especially when they worked over Alexander's ear but they really kicked out of a ton of stuff going towards the 30 minute draw.

Awesome guys, thanks for the feedback. I am jealous loss, went to the Dominican for our honeymoon and it was the best week of my life. Enjoy

I will be live blogging the AIW show at: http://placetobenation.com/absolute-intens...viii-live-blog/ If any promotion has a chance of becoming the new IWA-MS, I think it is them.

Ditto what you said Parv. This has been a great outlet for me and been awesome to revisit this stuff. Onward to the 90's we go.

If only #thankyounaylor could be trending during Raw to see if Cole would mention that.

Gargano has really become perplexing to me because I have pretty much hated his whole run in DGUSA and Chikara/PWG alongside team FIST but I have watched a good bit of AIW the past couple of days and have really liked him. He toned down the goofiness and ton and was a perfectly acceptable spunky babyface. Taylor on the other hand is a lost cause as he was still doing the same lame ass comedy and even brought out the Swamp Monster for his match.

What do you consider to be the most prestigious title?
soup23 replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Pro Wrestling
Voted for Right Now and voted other: Undertaker's undefeated Wrestlemania streak. All Time - I think only options is WWF or NWA -

This book is now Babinsack approved just in case anyone was still on the fence!

Great post Vinnie, I look forward to reading tons more in the future.

I commend you for this type of stuff. Honestly even more than the Finlay stuff last year, the one match that may be appreciate you putting Callihan as #1 in the WKO was when I watched him vs. Drake iron man in CZW. That was a match that had every reason to fail and be a mess, and Sami was determined to make it watchable and kind of good.
-
Have you seen any of the Sami vs. Hollister stuff from AAW? I was looking at that tonight and wondering if Sami was able to get something good of Hollister.
-
Great stuff. The leg work was allowed to breath and felt consequential. I liked the little touches that all added to comprise this match and the major moves down the stretch all had a sense of purpose. Two partners going at it always has an added sense of grittiness and that came into play here. Top 10 match of the year so far.

Good promo once we put aside the political incorrectness.

Very good junior action. Arm work was pretty fun and nifty and I didn't think that the ending was too kick out heavy. Only real spot that annoyed me was Owen doing a back flip instead of just running over LIger on a rope running spot. Big improvement and really felt like the junior matches we still even see today.

[1991-04-27-WWF-Saturday Night's Main Event] Bret Hart vs Ted DiBiase
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
Thought this was really good and maybe just a shade below Tito/Perfect as my favorite SNME match. Bret looks great in it and has started the shades passing out at ringside. Dibiase redeems himself from the MSG match with a good one here. I had forgotten how involved Sherri was with Dibiase but damn if her and Pipers interaction didn't crack me up here. Decent finish to protect both me.- 25 replies

[1991-04-27-WWF-Saturday Night's Main Event] Sgt. Slaughter vs Ultimate Warrior
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
I thought this was good fun and an interesting point in time for WWF. Warrior is on his way down from the heights of 1989-1990, Slaughter has added Col. Mustafa which seemed to dilute his whole faction, and Taker is already being pushed really strong. I liked the back work and bumping on Slaughter. I also liked how Savage cheered for Hogan and Warrior to go in the casket. Im surprised they didn't have a tag match at Summerslam with these four. Even though Summerslam 1991 is a good show, some of the choices leading in are perplexing. -

yeah what a quick tease this was. Flair flipping shit banged up was nice but too brief to really resonate.- 5 replies
