[1991-04-27-WCW-Worldwide] Barry Windham vs Brian Pillman
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
Not quite as good as the first match but not too terribly far behind. The brainbuster BW gave to Pillman when he took over on offense was nasty. He follows that up with fishhooking and eye raking. Eye work in general was nasty. Pillman's comeback is good until Anderson comes in a beats him up. Man the fans are pissed at this. Eaton looked like a hero making the save. Good stuff all around.- 10 replies

Good Flair promo but damn these angles feel really soft in WCW at this point. Only PIllman vs. Windham feels interesting and its a shame considering how good Wrestlewar was mostly as an overall show. NO Horseman dissension is mentioned here.

Yeah this was a lot better than the bumbling "Russian". Lex didn't say a ton but he looked pissed and vowed revenge.

[1991-04-27-WCW-Saturday Night] Action Figure commercial
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
these were really good action figures and actually complimented the Hasbro ones well in their positions. Sting especially was really good at giving The Undertaker powerslams in my dream cards.- 6 replies

[1991-04-27-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Nikita Koloff
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
After a hot start to the angle, the stuff with Nikita since has been lackluster minus his belt destroying feat. This was the worst of the bunch so far and I agree with everyone else that it felt pretty hollow.- 6 replies

[1991-04-27-USWA-Memphis TV] Steve Austin vs Steve Keirn
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
Good to see Keirn back and a fun little studio match. Besides some balance issues and weak kicks, I liked other stuff Austin did including his chinlock and boomerang clothesline. Hangman give a beating to Keirn which should be a beefy feud if given the chance to develop. Nasty spike piledriver on the outside and man the beating Fuller took was nasty. Fuller looks huge and him as a fired up babyface is awesome. -
[1991-04-27-USWA-Memphis TV] Eric Embry and Eddie Gilbert
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
Embrys logic sounds correct in not wanting to reveal Miss Texas to the toothless female fans chain match looks really violent and the green mist was interesting way to end the match. Eddies promo is super and Im constantly impressed with how well he has fit in as a babyface. His Embry impersonation is spot on. -

Sad stuff in the Punk situation.

That really is a finish to clever to not be lifted.

[1991-04-27-WWF-Superstars] Jake Versus Quake, Oh That Poor Snake!
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
I admit it, I cried as a five year old as Jake and Hogan were my favs and Damien hung on my wall for crying out loud. I still have a soft spot watching this now. I had forgotten the Mooney cutaways but they are spectacular.- 10 replies

[1991-04-27-WWF-Superstars] Funeral Parlor: Roddy Piper
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
Piper has been real good in 1991 as he is his usually crazy self but its restrained just enough to be sensible. I also like how WM was just a catalyst for most of the feuds. -
[1991-04-27-WWF-Superstars] Update: Sherri disrupts an Andre drinking session
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
Sherri gets abused a lot in 1991. Andres teeth are disgusting. This was fun for what it was. -
Fun action and good to see the Tennessee Stud defend his home turf.

Ok I take back what I said about Ted in 1991 as he was a mess here. The chair shots rival Lance Storm for weakness. Piper and Sherri were both flaying around but ted seemed disinterested. this being the last match on the card seemed to really fizzle it out to.

Everyone else has written up why this is amazing but it really is a superb match that would be a top 10 90's AJPW candidate. This felt like the 6 man equivalent of the 9/30/90 tag as in that match Taue and Kawada belonged but here I really felt like they were the stars. Kawada vs. Taue have had some extremely dickish interaction with each other and Taue knocking him off the rope had me salivating and the ensuing brawl with Kawada headbutting him. Let's not forget about Kobashi and Fuchi either. In that skirmish between Kawada/Taue, Fuchi gives one dick kick that is amazing and the flicking off of Kawada as he delivers a dropkick is super. Kobashi took his first beating in one of these matches that felt like one of his performances that we would see in tags for years to come. Jumbo and Misawa were also excellent and stayed out of the spotlight enough but still felt integral to the entire match. 50 minutes that flew by.

[1991-04-19-USWA Texas] Jeff Jarrett vs Tom Prichard (Chain)
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
Worst entry in this series but fairly fun stuff. I agree this finish felt real cheap given the gimmick. PRitchard vs. jarrett is still my favorite as feud of the year so far.- 11 replies

This show has to be up there with the all time greats. 3 four star matches by my book and a funk Krofratt vs. Kobashi battle. This match was fantastic and much like the Taue match from the 94 Carnival, I think a good match to point to if you want to champion Hansen as GOAT status. He is the most established and credible guy in the match but yet makes himself into a sympathetic babyface taking a beating and hitting a nice gusher to add to the drama. Finish was one of my favorite restart type finishes as Hansen had the best, "oh shit im legal? Lariotooo" expression throughout the sequence. fantastic stuff and a rocking night in Budokan Hall.

Mid September through October is usually my favorite time of the year down here. It can get hot in the day but is usually moderate and the nights are mild and nice.

[1991-04-18-AJPW-Championship Carnival] Mitsuharu Misawa vs Jumbo Tsuruta
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
Even though this is the lesser of the three matches for me in the 90's between these two, I still though it was great. Misawa looked more equal in this one than he did in either 6/8 or 9/1. My favorite spot of the match was Jumbo using the hot shot to try to put away Misawa. Him giving him three backdrops felt definitive and may have set in motion that move being an Achilles heel for Misawa throughout his career.- 23 replies
