[1994-08-27-WCW-Saturday Night] Dusty Rhodes and Nasty Boys vignette
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1994
I would put this one up there with spin the wheel make the deal and Beach Blast in the cheese department. Dusty gives a good promo and you wish they could have mixed in this speech at WCWSN or something. Have the Nasties beat up two jobbers and then get Dusty to do his spiel. However, if that wouldn't have happened I wouldn't have been able to get the good life like I did from watching this.- 9 replies

[1994-08-27-WCW-Saturday Night] Cactus Jack and Evad Sullivan

Kind of weird for cactus to attack EVAD but good promo by him anyway.- 8 replies

Brian is not to smart turning his back on Candido and Fytch. Anytime someone grabs Fytch it gets nice heat. We then get the debut of Boo Bradley.

Another good promo by New Jack explaining that rap music is taking over. Mustafa had some goofy expressions that hurt the overall interview.

[1994-08-24-WCW-Clash of the Champions XXVIII] Ric Flair vs Hulk Hogan
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1994
Crowd was defintely hot for this match. Seeing this match really shows how they had to add the career stip along with the cage for Havoc to mean anything. I have been forgiven of a lot of super hero Hulk performances but this is one of his worst. The injury was presented as such life a death the whole show that we really should have had a sting/Rude situation in my opinion. Flair looks like a complete idiot at the finish to boot and the figure four is made entirely meaningless.- 22 replies

Decent little match set up to show Dusty still has it and build heat for the post match. I liked how you don't feel cheated watching this match but know bigger things are to come in this feud.

[1994-08-24-WCW-Clash of the Champions XXVIII] Steve Austin vs Ricky Steamboat
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1994
Really nice swan song for the Steamer. Austin looked really good here in his heat segment being a cocky bastard. The nearfalls were very well done and the finish was a sublime moment. Announcing got on my nerves to no end.- 8 replies

[1994-08-24-WCW-Clash of the Champions XXVIII] Hulk Hogan and the masked man
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1994
I was hoping a "my leg gave out" from Hogan as a callback to Wrestlemania 6. I thought this was ok over reaction aside.- 7 replies

I may be on an island but I thought this was utterly fantastic and by fantastic I mean that I have it as the #4 match of the year ahead of Queendom. Kansai looked dominant. Hotta threw some ass kicking strikes, Aja was the warrior that got knocked the fuck out in a finish I loved, and Hokuto plays the most sympathetic overcome the odds babyface in the world. Not getting the beginning down time hate because of the way the strikes and submissions were mixed in with little niches like fish hooks and what not. Just a great match that I watched once and loved but thought I may have over rated, I then went to the pool and thought about the match some more so when I came back I watched it again and it held up wonderfully. A splendid match that proves sometimes your loss can be someone else's gain.

Rough first two minutes for Toyota with some sloppy stuff. I liked the next few minutes with Kyoko thwarting off any offense attempt by Toyota. Real exciting finishing run. I thought this was a great Kyoko performance and a tough match to rate overall based on the sloppy flaws.

Most awesome Gangsters stuff yet with New Jack calling out the NAACP, Mustafa spitting watermelon, and New Jack shouting.

Was this a legit injury? I can't believe there is a Tim McCarver stadium anywhere. Christopher cuts a good promo and the beatdown by the heel team was nice. Russell being vindicated by Gilbert getting suspended was a nice touch.

[1994-08-20-USWA-TV] Interview: Buddy Landell, Tommy Rich & Doug Gilbert
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1994
Can the USWA please let something breathe in 1994. Landell has already turned and it is tough to get invested because you never get to cheer for Landell before he turns. Landell cuts a good promo but the impact is lessened by the circumstances. -

Match confused the hell out of me. Post match beatdown was good and heated. -
An epic battle and a match were Takada's superman tendencies work because he is matched up against such a huge monster in Vader that for the entirety of the match, every time he was on the ropes he regained the advantage whether it be impressive mat work, a short kidney punch, etc. Nothing was easily achieved until Vader gained the distinctive advantage. Vader winning felt like the biggest moment of his career and it really shows how Vader really has had two of the most distinctive victories for a heel or foreigner in wrestling (this and the Vader/Sting GAB 92 match being the other). Overall one of the better matches of the year.
