[1994-08-16-ECW-TV] Interview: Cactus Jack & Terry Funk
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1994
Good buddy promo from both and I liked Funk promising not to ask for a chair. -
Another good tv match for Raw in 1994 as they featured quite a few. 123 Kid gained more momentum here making his comebacks. The ending made owen look weak as hell.

[1994-08-13-ECW-Hardcore Heaven] Cactus Jack vs Terry Funk

Chair throwing scene is still a really cool visual and could have been really dangerous. -
[1994-08-13-USWA-TV] Jeff Gaylord update / Interview: Sid Vicious

Another good promo by Sid and I am ready to see someone knock him down a peg. -
[1994-08-13-USWA-TV] Interview: Brian Christopher & Buddy Landell
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1994
Buddy's promo is funny here. Bruce Mitchell in his smackdown review was making fun of Punk and Daniel Bryan fighting over a girl. One wonders what he would think of 1994 USWA fighting over car repairs and ugly ass Astro vans. -
[1994-08-13-WWF-Superstars] Heartbreak Hotel: Jim Cornette

Worse Cornette promo of the year with Shawn undercutting him and his acting was too animated and unbelievable. I also groaned when he asked what time check out was. -
[1994-08-13-PWFG-Future Star II] Carl Greco vs Shoichi Funaki
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1994
I really enjoyed this and think they toed the line really well from showing most of their skills on the mat without making the match look like an exhibition. Some really slick mat work here and some counters I have never seen. -
Mikey is the biggest loser in the world EXCEPT for Jason

[1994-08-07-NJPW-G1 Climax] Shinya Hashimoto vs Shiro Koshinaka
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1994
For some reason I thought this was the final so seeing the draw baffled me at first. Great match that built up so well from real good matwork to nasty strikes, to bomb throwing with great selling. Hashimoto was really amazing in this and Kosh didn't annoy me as much as usual. Really awesome new Japan heavies match.- 7 replies

These guys really go after it and have another nice brawl here without any extra gimmicks. Dusty cuts another inspired promo. Thought the ending of the show was kind of weird with the mixing of the two angles together.

The background noise made me question whether my wife in the other room was watching wrestling for some odd reason. Dory was pretty bad here saying in one sentence that in a Texas Death Match pinfalls don't count but pinfalls can happen anywhere in the building. Terry was pretty funny confusing the Armstrongs but I didn't get a sense of much hatred between him.

I am loving these promos as New Jack is firing on all cylinders.
-
I must say I am loving Sid in USWA so far. He is being presented as a monster and whiile his promos are never going to be groundbreaking, this is the best ones he has done in my opinion. I wish Gaylord hadn't been talking and moving his hands so much to get over the angle more.

What made your decision to place 6/3/94 over the Queendom tag?

Agreed with Dibiase, he was in some very memorable vignettes but his actual promo work in the WWF and UWF was solid but not spectacular. He was also atrocious at the 1994 Rumble.

[1994-08-06-NJPW-G1 Climax] Riki Choshu vs Yoshiaki Fujiwara
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1994
Between this and the 1987 match, these two guys have had some good 10 minute matches. This was very good and intense. All the submission holds looked tight and well applied and some had some interesting counters. The ending was surprising and on the surface abrupt, but pretty clever when reflecting back on it.- 7 replies

[1994-08-05-SMW-Night of the Legends] Heavenly Bodies vs The Thrillseekers
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1994
Really good performance by Jericho and my second favorite Bodies performance besides the rock n rolls farewell match. Bladejob was really gory and Jericho did an admirable job of working with one arm. Storm's FIP section was fine but his offense was spotty in a lot of places and definitely was the worst worker in here. Real good southern style match that worked around its constraints to the best of their abilities. -
[1994-08-05-SMW-Night of the Legends] Interview: The Gangstas
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1994
Totally blanked on Ross being in SMW so that was a surprise. I am loving the Gangsters so far and it seems like such a fresh act. -
[1994-08-05-CMLL] The Headhunters vs Miguel Perez Jr & Ricky Santana
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1994
Wanted to like this more given it featured some great fat man dives but it lacked a certain amount of intensity and did drag out way too long. More of an interesting spectacle to watch than an overall great match. -
[1994-08-05-NJPW-G1 Climax] Hiroshi Hase vs Shiro Koshinaka
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1994
As much as Loss loathes the giant swing, I am the same way on the butt bump. We get four of those in this match. The final stretch was really good and I wish Koshinaka would have been more interesting in selling or applying unique or tight holds in the mat section. Overall good match with really good final 10 minutes.- 8 replies
