  1. This looked pretty lifeless. I don't know if the crowd was not anxious to cheer on the headshrinkers or what. The teams didn't seem to mesh real well either.
  2. Agree with all the comments here, this started out really hot and I was cheering it on but then Aja went to the chinlock and being 3 hours into watching at this point, I checked out. The ending run got me back into the match but a subpar middle for these two makes it hard for the match to reach its potential.
  3. Good trios match but seemed to rehash a lot of the previous trios and that brought it down a notch for me. Parka did some of the same stuff but him acting like he got hit in the balls and pleading with the ref to call for the DQ never gets old. Match also lost a little steam the longer it went on. I think Santo is not the star in these matches mainly because the classic Santo matches of him as a single feature him working really well on the mat and mixing in drama with the high falls. In a trios nature with more non stop action, a lot of his spurts and subtle transitions get lost because besides his big dive and head-scissors, not much else he does is extremely flashy.
  4. Very good match also. Didn't like the structure of this as much as the previous match but it may have had a better ending and it was extremely rewarding seeing Hasegawa get the big win.
  5. This was really good. Yamada has had some struggles stringing together a complete singles match and even though this featured a ton of kicks, they were all brutal and other cool stuff was thrown in to not let the kicks get overblown. Ending stretch run was very well done in my opinion. Hotta is 2 for 2 in stiff matches for the year in my book.
  6. Obviously one of the greatest matches of all time and it cemented that justification with me on this rewatch. The last few minutes I have memorized long ago and they remain completely enthralling but I loved the opening more this time seeing the year as a whole with kawada dominating and Misawa having to result to going after the injured leg to gain an advantage. I also don't know if I subscribe to the wrong guy won theory as well. A true classic in all regards.
  7. I think I will be higher on this than everyone else because I really enjoyed. Honda looked dare I say young here and it was nice to see Kobashi as the big dog on his team. Kobashi/Taue had spirited exchanges and overall Taue looked extra fired up getting more intensity on his nodowa's and hurling Akiyama with the powerbomb. I also bit on a couple of the false finished which is also refreshing. I could see this sneaking into my top 100 for the year.
  8. Yeah I am airing on the ok/good match side of this. The struggling of the holds was nice but it was so contested on every single hold that it was kind of tough to get into. Finish seemed really abrupt on first watch. This may be something I have to revisit at the end of the year one I know what to go in expecting.
  9. This was nice buildup and when it is revealed as Cactus you do get an "oh shit something is going to go down" vibe to that match.
  10. This is the first thing I have seen from ECW this year that felt really fresh and innovative character wise and really connected with me. This was only 20 seconds but really conveyed Mikey's character really well.
  11. Neat seeing all of these characters in a ring together. Lawler's jokes on Stu and helen were classic. The beatdown was pretty good on Bret and I thought it made Diesel and the powerbomb look strong. Lawler jumping with glee saying he had to get in on this was awesome as well. Enjoyed this segment immensely.
  12. This was really great and told a great story with Delphin. I am impressed with how polished Delphin is able to look in some of these matches. Here he hung with Liger on the mat and in the air and the result was a great match that I had never heard about.
  13. First time seeing this also and man did it deliver. Played off the Slamboree match wonderfully with Regal being more aggressive out of the gate but Larry still getting the edge. The crowd was molten for this and they mixed in wrestling holds with strikes so well. One of the best TV matches I have ever seen.
  14. Real over the top set but a decent promo by the nasties and nice to hear sags do ok since I remember Knobs being the dominant mouthpiece of the group.
  15. Ok promo by Hogan, but how long was the Thunder in paradise shoot anyway. I did like Gene correcting Hogan on how many titles Flair had won.
  16. I could listen to pre tape promos from jake all day long as he is the master of conveying a creepy vibe.
  17. If you block out of your mind how stupid it is for Jarrett and lawler to be best buds now the clips shown here are pretty heated and the heel ref bit doesn't seem completely overplayed at this point in time. I do wonder why they had Jarrett come in against Lawler in the first place and whether they changed their mind or what.
  18. These dibiase promos have just had a cheesy low production feel to them that I don't like. I mean the funeral parlor segment that the Undertaker did was such a cool set and here its just Dibiase in front of a coffin with some funky lamps. I also don't really understand his reasoning for wanting the Undertaker.
  19. These are still stupid
  20. Crowd heat was awesome but the work was pretty dreadful. Post match was something to see and I was shocked that Jake was completely bald considering I remembered him in 1996 having a good set of hair. Kind of a risky move for him to do at that age. Really cool to see though.
  21. I may be the only one but I vastly preferred this to the all star talent 8 man earlier. I thought Psic and La Parka looked significantly better here. Satanico and Perro doing some old man brawling in the second caida got me pumped up also. Santo was able to sell more and looked more vulnerable here than in the earlier tag too. In many ways this reminded me of the Michinoku Pro 6 man from 2/4 in that they mixed a lot of different styles here but each one was done effectively and the end result was a great match.
  22. I really don't like this angle as I think a lot of fundamental wrestling concepts are flawed and I just can't get into the rhyme or reason of why they hate each other.
  23. Thought it was funny how Paul was making fun of show names, when he had a bevy of them. Good promo otherwise from him. Funk's rebuttal was good also but he lost his train of thought in the middle and just has not been as sharp overall.
  24. Pretty stupid WWF promo.
  25. One of the greatest garbage matches I have ever seen. I used to prefer the Spring Stampede match but this is clearly superior. Stiff action and a frantic pace. The ending with Shultz, EVAD, and Maxx payne getting spots in was fabulous. This is going up high on the MOTY list so far.
