[1994-02-17-NJPW-Fighting Spirit] Genichiro Tenryu vs Shinya Hashimoto
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in February 1994
Really felt like a heavyweight showdown with insanely great pacing, strikes, and emotion. Really everything I want out of a wrestling match. The crowd shot at the finish with the seat that goes flying is fantastic also.- 18 replies

This felt really meandering for the first 10 minutes or so then they start to work over Liger and it goes into this great finishing sequence that may be my favorite of the set so far. Really fun match that drew me in at the end.

[1994-02-16-AAA-Sin Limite] El Hijo del Santo vs Psicosis
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in February 1994
Agreed with all the points made. Psicosis just didn't seem ready to handle the long match portion of this match and seemed like he was killing time to get to the third caida. I thought the third caida was great and the finish worked to build heat. I also found it strange that after the brawling done in the tag, how much of a gentleman Santo was constantly wanting to shake Psicosis hand pre and post match. That seemed odd. Good match but never reached its potential besides the third fall- 7 replies

[1994-02-13-SMW-Sunday Bloody Sunday] Dirty White Boy vs Brian Lee (Chain)
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in February 1994
Yeah after the great promos DWB has delivered, I was underwhelmed by the match and it showed how restrictive a chain match can be. Nice ending with the revenge spot of Wright but this just felt like a lot longer match than it was in actuality.- 7 replies

[1994-02-13-SMW-Sunday Bloody Sunday] Chris Candido vs Tracy Smothers
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in February 1994
Really good beginner match to this feud. I have heard this feud be hyped for so long but never seen the matches. Really good spots and hard work. I liked Candido running away after the finish instead of being caught with the chain.- 6 replies

My wife walked in while I was watching it and just shook her head. That about summed up my thoughts on this.

[1994-02-19-WCW-Saturday Night] Vader public workout
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in February 1994
Very good promo from Vader and seeing him demolish jobbers is always fun. I also thought Bobby was real good on commentary acknowledging Flair as a legend but how he can't see how he can escape Vader in the cage. Tony had a great line about Flair putting up his career at Starrcade and in this match he is putting up his life. Vader looked like a monster.- 8 replies

[1994-02-19-SMW-TV] Down and Dirty: The Thrillseekers
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in February 1994
I did like how SMW made th contract look like a high school recruit signing his letter of intent for college and they way they pushed the Seekers over on their Canadian work.- 10 replies

[1994-02-05-ECW-The Night The Line Was Crossed] Shane Douglas and Terry Funk
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in February 1994
Funk and Duglas was great and I think seeing this promo may have helped build the legend of the shit match because they really conveyed it as an epic battle without going into hyperbole like Joey Styles was.- 8 replies

Yeah this was brutally bad and really shows that it was called completely on the fly and they didn't have much of a plan beyond were going 60. I also thought the crowd was really dead and at the end it felt like one of those pity appluauses given at your child's community play production.

[1994-02-05-SMW-TV] Rock & Roll Express vs Heavenly Bodies
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in February 1994
This match was ok but the booking didn't make much sens to me with the Rock N Rolls hitting both members of the Bodies and semmingly getting their revenge before the big showdown on Sunday Bloody Sunday. I thought Dutch went a little too far inside with the Keller/Meltzer stuff. Mentioning them as jabronis would be funny because if you know who they are, you can chuckle and if it don't it doesn't effect it, but him constantly talking about them 5 minutes into the match seemed a little much and I also have no idea what the Lousiana credit card thing was about.- 8 replies

[1994-02-05-SMW-TV] Music Video: Brian Lee & Tammy Fytch
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in February 1994
This was a really good video showcase. I love the clips of Tammy doing a little dance with the belt, and also her slapping Smothers leading to Lee/Smothers getting into a fight.- 9 replies

Ron Wright saying Fytch Bitch made me pop. He just knew how to play the old guy role so well on both sides of the fence. DWB has always been one of my favorites and I love his fired up promos.- 9 replies

Super Delfin is someone who I had never hated but also never really paid much attention to. He was fabolous in this match. I don't know how knew the arm wringer and row boat spots were at this time but both were done well especially the arm wringer. I liked how the first pairings of the match showcased the different styles with Sato/Delfin being athletic, Shiryu/Naniwa working the mat and mixing in some comedy, and Jinsei/Sasuke having the superstar pairing. The 25 minutes really fllew by here as they came up with enough interesting stuff to sustain the attention span. Saving the dive train to the end was nice also as it felt built up to that moment.

5 stars for this is a bigger head scratcher to me than Davey/Elgin since that involves two things we know Dave enjoys (moves/nearfalls and trying to make a star within a match). This seemed like business as usual. Kawada has a great tombstone and I love when he mixes it in. Nice to see Kobashi on a roll.

This is my first yearbook but I thought January was a sneaky great month of matches since going in the only matches I recalled getting much play were Hotta/Aja, Quebecs/Harts, and Steiners/Harts. The 1-2-3/Janetty tags were at the least very fun and with only 4 matches so far, I am greatly intrigued in the joshi especially considering I have looked ahead and know what you think Loss of the Queendom tag.

Showing a close up of the coin was a nice touch. Effective segment even though it doesn't feel like main event of Wrestlemania level stuff.

[1994-01-31-WWF-Raw] 1-2-3 Kid, Marty Jannetty, Razor Ramon & IRS
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in January 1994
The arena they were filming this in was tiny. Patterson yelling for IRS to get back in his position got a chuckle out of me. Jannetty's promo was pretty terrible. I also was surprised to still hear Lord Alfred Hayes still doing the promotional consideration voiceover. -
