  1. Here was the promo from Trash. Not bad at all and it gets interrupted by Flash as they have a verbal spat with Cornette shilling the card on Tuesday.
  2. Clips from the brawl looks good. Interview segment with TPT is well done and this overall is much more enjoyable and straight forward at creating a compelling feud than the short studio matches that end in a DQ.
  3. PN News runs down the fans. Yo Baby Yo Baby Yo. Spike comes out and pins him in around a minute with the Acid Drop. Fun segment. 1/4*
  4. Such a great defined contrast of tecnico vs rudo throughout this match. The double team moves Wagner and Panther execute in the first fall were awesome. They really melded together great as a team. Second fall continues the dominance of the rudos as they are just running shit. Wagner hits the martinete on Casas behind the refs back and pins him. The deck is stacked against Santo now When Worlds Collide style. I love rudo Panther around this time and his contrast to the quintessential babyface in Santo. Panther celebrates another great move but little does he know Santo hit a flash rana and pinned Wagner. He does it to Panther too and we are all tied up. The rudos are incensed and open the final fall on a tirade that busts Santo open good. He has a great visual of blood all over his silver pants. Meanwhile, Casas is trying to regain himself by pouring drinks from the crowd on top of his head to shake the cobwebs off. The visuals of this match are through the roof. Casas and Santo bond together and Casas gets a measure of revenge by pinning Wagner. Panther is now on the outside trying to compose himself. Casas puts a sign over Wagner and gives him a leg drop. A beautiful wrestling match chalk full of great story. ****1/4
  5. Really weird going from May 2000 viewing to this just 9 months before. HHH and Vince fighting, Steph checking on Test, Chyna still with HHH. HHH selects Shane to be the referee. After going through the list of challengers, HHH finally lands on Vince. I do think his delivery isn't as defined here as it would get in 2000. Match finally gets going and HHH lays the boots to Vince. Shane is endearing as the ref encouraging his dad and he feels genuine in doing so. HHH beats him up on the outside and inside he uses a chair. Shane gets beat up for the troubles he has caused and Chyna gets in on the attack. The crowd starts clamoring for Austin and Vince has bladed. LInda is in the ring and Chyna holds her back as HHH beats Vince up right in her face. Glass shatters and Austin whips everyone's ass including giving the stunner to Chyna. He puts Vince on top of HHH and Vince wins the title to a big pop. The moment is cool but I am also not sure it was needed and kind of halts HHH big title run. This segment also took a long time to get to the destination. **
  6. I like both of these guys a ton but it never came together and I couldn't get a definitive feel for the storyline they were trying to develop throughout the match. In fact, for a ***1/4 star match, this may be one of the poorest Ishikawa performances I can remember because even in matches that are technically worse, he usually feels more spirited than he did here. I was hoping for a classic but RINGS won the war of October shoot style vs PWFG. ***1/ 4
  7. Fun match that had a lot of advanced grappling centered around leg locks. Greco is one of my favorite guys when he crops up as he has such a natural wrestling delivery and the fluidity of the takedowns and control segments are always a treat to watch. This probably would have benefited from being a bit shorter but it was entertaining while it lasted to me. ***1/2
  8. Ivory seems really sincere to welcome Cindy into the ring but then gets pushy when Cindy doesn't want to strike a bikini pose on the mat. As soon as she obliges, out comes Jarrett to slap on the figure four. After high fiving Ivory, he slaps the figure four on her which the crowd doesn't really know how to react to.
  9. Not a great turn by Funk as him putting the boots to Smith didn't really have the sympathy I think Paul E thought it would. I think the problem is that Smith is indeed a total loser that can't chain together any offense. An audience can love a lovable loser but not a hopeless case.
  10. Jarrett feels like a huckster here which is the point and him trying to use wrestling to springboard his career is something that could play even today as a heelish thing as Miz brings up his movie/ reality career.
  11. Man, the portion of this match before the interference was really dull and not near as exciting as I would have hoped. Something just didn't seem to click and there was absolutely no desperation at all. The finish of this is my favorite part as Polo timed it perfectly and Marty goes really hard into the post creating a stimulating visual. Polo was the emphasis of this match and too much of the focal point to the detriment of the action inside the ring. **
  12. I always want to like this match more than I do and it does fool me in the beginning because it starts really hot like Marty says. I would say the match peaks with Vader coming out of his grave bloodied up and then sputters there to the finish. And woof at that finish. It felt incredibly hokey and lame and that Jack was a goof for not laying out Harley knowing he was bound to intervene at some point. A very good match but one where you feel like a classic was needed to justify some of the nonsense of the angle beforehand. ***1/ 2
  13. I really enjoyed this. Liger giving Scurll the bird was awesome and Scurll's heel act works well with attacking the arm of Liger and showing his dominance. The story of Liger in the BOSJ is a bit perplexing but he is 3 for 3 with enjoyable matches. ***1/2
  14. We get about 10 minutes out of 16 and this is a pretty great old school slugfest from these two veterans. I know about Kyoko's stylistic change in the 2000's but it will take some getting used to. I had no idea what to expect from Yamada but she was excellent hitting some brutal strikes and being all pissed off. I want to seek more out from her on this GAEA run. Kyoko really relied on the clothesline throughout the match and it pays dividends by giving her the win in the end. ***1/4
  15. Long Island Wrestling Federation. My God. The unfinished business graphic is as carny as you can get. John “the Sure Thing” Shane cuts a promo and it is indyrific but effective to a degree. This arena looks like a glorified garage. Despite his objections, Shane does get handcuffed to Sluggah. A half baked match with some good ideas but way way too long. Papa Don is a pretty fun character in short doses but he hasn’t figured out how to make a match compelling throughout besides setting up his next spot. Homicide is also someone that I adore but can be prone to meandering at times. As a result, this felt like any generic 2000’s ladder match you have seen that even ends in a big schmozz full of run ins and Homicide winning in anticlimactic fashion. Sluggah always had pretty dreadful execution that didn’t look menacing at all for someone that was presented as a monster. **1/4
  16. A good match but also one that probably didn't reach the heights and opportunities they would have hoped for from these two upstarts. They start out brawling on the ramp and then Kojima starts going after the leg of Yoshie. This is the critical point of the match and Kojima's work is fine if uninspiring. Yoshie comes back with some power moves and ends up winning pretty abruptly. Good but not the showcase that could have happened. ***
  17. Great tights by Rude but man what a sludge of a match by the looks of the clips we saw. Flair doing the Rude Awakening was nice but the finish was really contrived and didn't work on any level.
  18. Better action than the day before. The heat for the Missy bump was good and 2 Cold did hit a great looking 450. The finish was also clever with Sags using his boot to whack him and Knobbs hitting the cover allowing the heels to escape with the belts and looking worse for wear.
  19. Really fun match with a lot of European wrinkles mixed in making it feel different. I thought this was a good showcase for Davey in showing his range as a worker and Regal in conveying how his style could get over with the WCW Southern fanbase and he could generate a nice heel reaction. Build to the draw was well done with DBS exploding in the last two minutes and running through a flurry of offense. Big coup for Regal kicking out of the powerslam and Randy Anderson timed the draw well by taking the long way to count the final pin. ***1/2
  20. Big promo to start things off with Russo and Flair shooting on each other. It is part sad and part endearing watching Ric try to make chicken salad out of chicken shit as Russo just isn’t the performer as Vince or Bischoff. Russo gets off some jokes about Space Mountain. I do think Ric is doing better here than Funk in February/March just because he treats it serious in tone which is what the main event angle calls for. Match starts with David and Ric going after each other and honestly they may have given away too much heading into their PPV match but the angle has transitioned into more about Russo vs Ric anyway. Flair says he will stay outside for three minutes and allow Russo to take on Reid. Russo dances around and Reid takes him down to a pretty big pop and a fun moment. Reid takes him down twice more and then Ric pounces in and gets a couple of shots in. As the action spills to the outside, Russo whacks Ric with a Statue of Liberty figure. Reid goes after David and he gets shoved off. Russo trips up Reid and David applies the figure four as Beth looks on from the outside. Russo gets the pin and celebrates like he won the world title. Much like this angle overall, some good and some Russo resulting in a mixed bag. *1/4
  21. What a mess this is. Ernest Miller is treated as an authority figure and we get some piss poor action complied with a million run ins. Jarrett is shown walking to the ring backstage with purpose and then comes out five minutes later. Nash ends up getting the pin cementing himself as the #1 contender. Yippee. *1/2
  22. These two continue to have decent chemistry and Sting seems motivated. Sting even does a table spot I have never seen where the table is set up long ways on the ropes and he back body drops Kidman through it. Sting follows up by doing the ramp splash on both Kidman and Horace. Kidman and Horace continue to have their issues revolving around Torrie and Mike Awesome has to be the voice of reason as the segment ends. **
  23. Hey, here is the overbooked AAA that I know and don’t love. This faction war stuff is one step removed from the 1997 Gang Warz IMO and the stuff with Charly Manson having the blowtorch and entering the cage did nothing for me. I feel bad for Sangre because I do think him mixed in with Pierroth, Ano and Perro in CMLL could be fun. *3/4
  24. AAA is still the worst promotion we have seen in Mexico so far but at least it is watchable now due to the action. Abismo Negro is getting a big push and is the centerpiece here vs. Garza. La Parka and Elctroshock have some sequences that turn from hilariously bad with the electric gimmick to entertaining with Parka dancing around. Finish ends with the tecnicos celebrating their victory. ***
  25. KENTA is skinny as can be here. A perfectly good match between two rookies that were given over 10 minutes. Kenta shows some fire but I thought Hashi had to carry the heavy lifting and he seemed to be more advanced at this stage. That is exemplified in the finish where he wins. Glad we get a quick glimpse of Kenta in AJ right before the big split. **3/4
