  2. I have this somewhere, I could not tell you exactly what disc it is on. I would have to go home and do some researching, and find what disc it is on. As most people know I am a HUGE Idol fan and I have literally tried to compile every match and int that is available out there. I am hoping there is stuff out there that will be discovered someday like his feuds in Southeastern against the Stud Stable , Wayne Ferris and The Sheepherders. I have some footage of Idol and Eddie "the continental lover" Mansfield as a tag team which I havent seen much of. This was at the very beginning of the Idol-Sullivan feud, where Sullivan came in wanting to avenge Idol injuring Sullivan's brother and taking him out of wrestling. Idol had some pretty crazy promos here calling Sullivan's dad a drunk and how Sullivan would find him in the gutter on the streets of Boston and have to carry him home over his shoulder. I thought Idol was very entertaining, he wasnt a great wrestler but he had a ton of charisma. Kind of like Gino Hernandez in that regard. Gino wasnt the best wrestler, in fact he could be pretty sloppy at times but there was just something about him that made you want to watch him. I mean the Dynamic Duo vs Kerry and Kevin Von Erich was a tremendous feud and if you watch the footage Chris and Gino had quite a following of fans. As for Idol, he was in top form in Ga in 79-80. His mic work is simply put amazing at this time, while very influenced by Graham, Idol took it to a whole different level. Everyone talks about the four flat tires angle and that IS my fav angle ever, this clip below is just phenomenal and may be my fav Idol promo ever. 10 mins of pure wrestling glory as it used to be and better then anything thats been done in years in todays wrestling. Ladies and Gentlemen Austin Idol and his crying towel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ASLvIkTkYw
  3. I read Englands Dreaming years ago and still own my copy from 1991. It is to this day one of the best books I have ever read. It is massive but well worth it. If you want to understand the whole Punk scene and why and how it happened there is not a better book. Its not just about the Pistols but the Clash, The Dammed and 100s of other forgotten about bands. Bands like The Saints with one of the all-time forgotten about great singles "I'm Stranded". Jon Savage does a great job explaining England in the 70s and how it was the economic times of England was a huge part in the punk movement. He even gives us a history lesson about the Teddy Boys and the Mods and other subculture movements in England since WWII. It also has a large amount of great photographs, concert and album pictures. A masterpiece.
  4. Who: A neighborhood friend who was orginally from Minnesota got me into watching wrestling. Watched it at his house then I was hooked. Of course being from Minnesota he was an AWA fan and that is what I was exposed to first. What: Luce/AWA every Sun morning 10am-12 on Channel 44, Georgia Championship Wrestling on TBS then came WCCW and WWF. While I like the AWA and it got me hooked I was a bigger fan of GCW. I remember being awed by the Tommy Rich-Buzz Sawyer feud. Me and my little brother tried to watch it every Sat night much to my parents dismay. My parents were cool parents they just didnt understand the appeal of wrestling to me, my brother, then our group of friends. Me and my brother would soon eventually be hosting the neighborhood kids for all the WWF PPVs and my Dad would even sit with us and watch just to laugh at us I think. I remember watching GCW one night and Buzz was doing one of his insane promos yelling, screaming and carrying on while Solie just sat there all calm of course. My Mom remarked how ridiculous it was that the older man could remain so calm with all that ridiculous stuff going around him. I also remember one night my Dad was laughing at the top of his lungs watching an Abdullah the Butcher match on GCW. When: Started around 1981, we were very fortunate we were one of the first communities to get cable TV. I was about 9 years old. Where: Chicago where AWA was king until 1984 of course. On the old channel 44 every Sun morning at 10 am me, my neighbor Jeff and my little brother would watch wrestling. An hour of AWA then they would show an hour of the old Luce shows from the old International Amphitheartre. I can still remember the old commercials Bob Luce used to do for the Stop and go liquor store and the car dealership. Then I got into GCW. We also had USA where I remember watching Southwest before it went to the WWF. We also had WOR out of NY but for whatever reason I didnt start watching WWF until right after Hulk won the title. Channel 66 eventually got WCCW,NWA,UWF and Pro Wrestling this week. Never got Mid-South till after it changed to UWF and never got Memphis. Also watched the WCCW legends show everyday after school on ESPN. We also had Fla. I also ran up to the store all the time to get the Apter Mags for 7 years which I have to this day. Why: I honestly cant tell you. I watched it all the time till 1990 then would just watch occasionaly. Then the Monday Night wars started and I watched it a bit more but not that often. Its weird, alot of the people I work with and friends watched this time period more then I did. It was huge. All of the guys I worked with would ask did you see Raw or Nitro last night? In most cases I hadnt and the few times I did I was just casually watching not really paying attention. Half of the time I was laughing at signs in the audience which were at the time hilarous. Then by 1999 or so I never watched it. Then I ordered WWE 24/7 when it came out and bam it caught my interest and have been collecting the footage I grew up with and trying to catch up on things that I missed including alot of Japan stuff. I am just grateful there is a community of guys out there where you can do that.
  5. According to reports (WON) Edward Fatu, 36 is in a Houston hosiptal with a life threatening condition according to a life long family friend. Bobby Lashley actually tweeted earlier today that he had passed away. Hopefully this isnt true.
  6. There is a Buzz Sawyer match from 82 or 83 in Ga against Randy Mulley, Gordon Solie introduces him as Randy Mulley but I swear its Randy Mulkey. Sawyer just abuses him. It was downright frightening. At one point Sawyer threw him out of the ring and Mulley takes an insane bump on the floor. I dont think this was planned at all. Mulley was actually able to get back in the ring but you can tell he was pretty hurt. Sawyer just mauled enhancement guys. I know people talk about how bad Steiner and Vader were but I think Sawyer was the worst with jobber guys. I dont think Mulley was incompetent in this case but how could you tell against Buzz? He just did his own thing went he went in there. I thought he was immensely talented, He could have been and should have been one of the greats. The best guys with jobber matches was Muraco and The Midnite Express. They honestly looked like they were having fun. Muraco barking at the crowd while they chanted beach bum while destroying his opponent was great and so were his interviews. Then on TBS you had the Express flying all over the ring while Cornette was going a mile a minute on the mic zinging everyone from Jimmy Valiant, Rocky King, the Street People, The Rock and Roll Express, Dusty Rhodes and Baby Doll to Dave and Tony themselves. Bobby always looked like he was going to hit his head in the rafters in the old studio while flying off the top rope. A guilty pleasure of mine is the short lived tag team of the New Breed with Sean Royal and Chris Champion. Yes there gimmick was horrible but I thought they had some cool moves and were fun to watch in the ring. I might be the only person out there with a New Breed comp. The Bulldogs vs Thornton and Foley match always makes me laugh when I see it. The look on Foleys face while being introduced by Fink is priceless. I really do miss jobber matches. Here is Foleys first televised match http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQDbE9kFUkw

  9. Like everyone else I am completely shocked and saddened about the death of Misawa. Just unbelievable. Actually just read that Chris Hero was there at the show while on tour with NOAH and actually wrote about it on his blog. I only just recently discovered Puro in the last few years but I can appreciate how great Misawa was. Somehow Baba and All Japan knew he was the perfect transition guy from the 80s and Jumbo to the rebirth of All Japan in the 90s. Jumbo will always be my fav Puro wrestler of all time but Misawa is right behind him. Its been awhile since I have watched the Misawa-Jumbo matches, I think I will do that when I get home from work and once again appreciate just how great the two of them were. RIP Misawa

  14. Just thought I would let you guys know that the long awaited new book about Gary Harts life in wrestling will soon be available. Check out www.playboygaryhart.com for info. While not yet ready for purchase you can check out the chapter headlines and the index. It looks quite immpressive coming in at over 400 pages. It looks fantastic. Gary Hart was one of my favorite people ever in the wrestling buisness and I feel he had one of the best wrestling minds. One of the most underrated talkers on the mic ever. Just check out Bixs incredible 3 discs comp of the career of Gary Hart. Its one of my fav comps. The banter between Hart and Piper in Ga is hilarious. Anyway check it out guys. I am really excited for this book to come out. First the Midnight Express book now this. Doesnt get much better.
  15. I have a ton of if not most of the wrestling books out there and this is by far one of the best. The amount of information in here is unbelievable. It has every one of their results, dates, what town, gate reciepts and tons of other stuff. As great as the stories are its the pictures that sets this book apart. Has awesome pics from the 70s and early 80s of Eaton, Condrey and Stan Lane before teaming up. Order this book! Its worth every penny and more. You wont be disappointed. A must have for anybody who loves and misses the glory days of 80s territory wrestling.
