Love the Humungous build-up on the TV, great foreshadowing. Hogan vs Patera and OMG is like Hulkamania in the WWF one year early, great intriguing matches. Really interesting direction and so much star power. The Zambuie Express are going to have to learn to stay within the rules if they ever want to win a tag title.

Demolition was good. I'm another kid who A) Didn't realize or care they were influenced by the Road Warriors and Thought Smash was the more exciting member of the team. Great promos. Barry Darsow in general was fine. I like the Krusher Kruschev angle and run a lot as well. Repo Man was a goof, but like the Berzerker, filled a spot in cartoony '92 WWF. Too much hyperbole Will. It's almost like Darsow took a crap in your yard or something. -
Portland draft looks to be happening, but is separate. One more time, I'm proposing that with these debuts every month, we'll make a random draft order. When your turn comes you have the option of drafting, but if there's no one you want you pass and keep your spot for next month. If you do draft, you go to the back of the line. Johnny Valiant Steve Muslin (Travis) John Tolos Kurt Von Hess Thunderbolt Patterson Bull Brannigan Dusty Woods Mark Savage So Boon, if you get an early spot, you'd want to wait it out until September. Does that work for everyone?

How Should Drop Out Promotions Be Handled? - Use This Thread

I'm over it. Let Wahoo keep these guys, but let's iron out exactly what the pairings are going on, since there's like 5 versions now. Jesse is the first pick in the Portland draft so once he's ready to choose, let's get this show on the road. -

How Should Drop Out Promotions Be Handled? - Use This Thread

Nothing was decided! Ideas were thrown out, Wahoo made a list, Matt D got involved, the two of them had private PM conversations and nothing ever happened! What's the harm in continuing to spitball ideas, especially if it ends up with something more people agree with? And you were the one who said put it to a vote in the other thread. This rush job of giving Wahoo a super-duper territory right off the bat is so strange. -

Let me try one more argument. We have 19 territories. The ideas are all missing one promotion except for the one that pairs up 3 together. Portland died before it started so now we have 18 if ASW is paired up with a 2nd territory. Looking at the map, why don't we try this: Vancouver/Stampede Toronto/Montreal Southwest/WCCW WWA/AWA Memphis/ICW Mid-South/Central States Florida/WWC Georgia/Southeast WWF/JCP OR Vancouver/Stampede Toronto/Montreal Southwest/WCCW WWA/AWA Memphis/ICW Mid-South/Central States Georgia/Florida JCP/Southeastern WWF/WWC With an even pairing now, we could still just split Portland up amongst everyone, because A) It didn't even really exist as a promotion since Dylan dropped out immediately. and B ) The pairings weren't made until after the fact. Now everyone would have a chance to add guys who shouldn't have been drafted away in the first place (because Portland didn't run any shows) and going into August there would be no surprises about who gets what from now on. -

I did like the idea when it was first announced because it seemed like a quick way to just keep things moving without too much craziness. Then there was no follow up and while waiting for either the draft to start or for Wahoo to make clear what he and Matt were doing, I had second thoughts. I assumed we were just spitballing ideas. My hesitation now has nothing to do with the match-ups and proximity, but everything to do with the likelihood of JCP ever getting the chance to absorb another promotion. WWF is active. MLW is active. Florida is active. WWC is active. And I don't want to root for anyone to go under just so I can get ALL their big names. Instead of always having a 50/50 chance to get one of the top ten stars of a dead promotion, now I'm stuck with castoffs unless someone decides to quit. But I'm too late? Fine, not a big deal. Finalize a sister territory list the fairest it can possibly be and start the leftovers from Portland/ASW draft. My postings in the August 1983 thread were more concerning how the monthly new rookie/returnee draft will go. Had an idea dating back 1-2 weeks ago and no one ever followed up on it. Do we want to combine the two drafts and just do them both at the same time? Probably should start soon so it doesn't leak into August. -

Other than "we decided on it" which is weird because it didn't feel finalized to me, I'm not sure why this is something I'm supposed to be happy about. It's selfish I guess, but there is no route set for JCP to get new guys and I don't like that. And this one is weird because Portland didn't even do one show and get their guys are going as a clump to Vancouver. Listen, I don't want to come off as argumentative because I'm not actually that invested in this argument. If we want to just close this and continue the process with Wahoo, fine. But we need to clarify EXACTLY how the new workers and promotion closings will work. -

The whole Matt D thing muddled whatever was decided before. Id be happier with Matt just taking over Portland. -

Ahh right, I made this as just a player and forgot once we started this discussion. No decision was made. People were open to the idea, but nothing happened. The delay changed my mind and I thought the discussion thread showed more people were on the fence too. Listen, I'm not one of those "my way or I'm gone guys" so if we really just want to do the takeover strategy, I'll live with it. I won't be thrilled, but I'll understand. -

Right, but there's a higher quality of choices than just only JTTS and jobbers. And we're going to do monthly new talent drafts anyway. These guys should go into it too. -

LowBlow, you can vote specifically because Will was gracious enough to give you Baba's vote when we started the polls a month ago. He's voted in everything so far. If it makes people feel better, I'll delete my vote and only use it as a deciding vote. -

I voted for the first choice because after I spent more than a few minutes actually thinking about it, I wasn't so hot about basically never getting an opportunity to absorb another promotion's talent. Unless we consciously pair up "likely to drop out" with "likely to last for the run", a bunch of guys are never going to benefit from this arrangement. -
Will run until 6PM EST Wednesday or until one option gets 10 votes. Edit - New thread because I forgot to make votes public which is kinda important when you only want people involved in this to vote. Sorry.

Don't think it was the Uso's specifically, but there was a PPV or big card recently where in basically every match 2-3 super kicks were thrown.

The delay in any sort of movement just allowed me more time to consider the option. I'm not going to fight it if we go that way, but I'd rather have all dissolved territory wrestlers in a draft.
-
Looking at it that way, I don't see Barry Windham (for example) learning that Portland is closing and deciding that "Oh well, I'll just go up to Canada since it's so close" rather than go back to Florida or the Carolinas. Maybe the sister territory can get automatic first draft choice, but otherwise it's just silly. The bigger territories (WWF, AWA, GCW, etc...) would grab hot names immediately were they to become available.
-
I don't like that system because it doesn't give everyone the same opportunity at picking up new talent. The pairings favor certain territories. We're paired up with WWF and I don't see Parv flaking on this. We could switch to another close territory in Florida and it'd be the same thing with Rocket. Same with anyone paired up with MACW. We didn't go into this with the idea of "partner" territories and that's going to cost us the opportunity at big name guys.
-
I'm not saying any promotion would be killed involuntarily, I'm talking about when guys drop out like Dylan.
-
I want to add another idea to this since we are getting within a week and a half of August. I still think it should be random draw with the option to draft or pass and wait for a month with someone you really want. Looking at promotion results, things have slowed down (or are non-existent) for a handful of promotions. I hope no one else drops out, but if they do, how do people feel about placing the dismantled promotion's wrestlers in this eligibility draft? I'm not sure what Wahoo and Matt decided on a possible partnership, but perhaps it's better to just open the floor up for all consistently active promotions to be rewarded with the opportunity to draft failed promotion's wrestlers?

I was checking on the new areas thing as well. Sometimes it's true, but others he just doesn't even compete on days where there is a MSG show, even on the "B" show. Guess you have to figure in that Jr. wasn't necessarily going to follow the pattern of Sr. with MSG usage. Just seems weird that if Hogan was that over, how they still felt he would become stale with the NY crowd with monthly appearances.
