We start off with some clips from the Mid-South Coliseum and the Snowman is in the front row as promised. Eddie Marlin (with his jacket off) is in his face and the two exchange pushes and shoves with one another until security does their best to try and get Snowman out of there. This was a chaotic looking scene and one that all the fans seemed to think was legit. Back in the studio and Eddie Marlin is sat with Dave Brown. Eddie apologizes to the fans for what they’ve just seen and Dave says that Snowman is in the audience today. The reason being that they want to avoid a repeat incident happening again, so they’re going to let him have his say here in a controlled situation. Marlin says that they want to treat him just as fair as they do the other wrestlers and he will have his chance to say his piece. We return from a commercial break and they invite Snowman to join them with Eddie reminding him that they have lots of small children watching so control his language. I think Snowman was about to talk about how the tape from Monday had been edited to make him look bad and he calls Marlin prejudiced and racial, but before he can get any further Marlin cuts him off. He says he thought he might say that so he’s invited another guest to be here today as well, King Cobra. Cobra joins them but Snowman doesn’t let him get much of a word in and constantly telling him to ‘talk up!’ Marlin gets involved and tells him to let Cobra, a man he considers a top athlete, a top wrestlers, a top contender and a personal friend, have his say and that he’s not going to mistreat him. Cobra says that he never experienced any racism in his time with the CWA and USWA, but Snowman doesn’t believe him and asks the audience if he’s lying? He calls over a couple of his friends who are black businessmen from the Memphis area. They watch the wrestling on Channel-5 and they can tell the weak wrestlers and King Cobra is nothing but a whipping boy. One of the businessmen turns out to be Norvell Austin’s brother and he says despite his track record here, they gave Norvell no respect. He says that if you are talking about putting Jerry Lawler in the ring with the Snowman you may as well put Al Bundy in there, because if ‘The King’ is in there with the Snowman he’ll be squashed in two minutes flat! Why did it take 15 security guards to take the Snowman out of that building when ‘The King’ could have taken care of it himself if he really is ‘The King’? He’s no King, he’s a wimp! Snowman’s other guest ‘Bohemian Brother’ says a few words but he’s tough to understand. Marlin tells Snowman to get what he’s got to say off his chest as they’ve got to get on with the program. Snowman says that they know what he’s got to get off his chest and are they going to give him Jerry Lawler before he leaves here? Norvell’s brother pipes up again and says that Snowman has defeated Ted Dibiase, Steve Williams, Junkyard Dog and Jake Roberts so why does he have to start from the bottom as Jerry Lawler is nowhere near the wrestlers they are. At this point Lawler comes out to join them. Cobra heads off in the opposite direction and Snowman’s guests return to their seats. Lawler says that he’s tired of all this crap and there is one way that they can put a stop to it. He tells Marlin and Snowman that he’ll give him a match any time that he wants. Marlin isn’t too keen on the idea, but Lawler says Snowman might impress the fans and those two pencil necked geeks stood out here with his shirt off, but he doesn’t impress him and he’ll put him flat on his back right here. Marlin tells the pair of them that he runs the company, not them, and Jerry Lawler can’t go around giving title matches to anyone he wants. They can run their mouths all they want, but they won’t have the match until he says so. Snowman again accuses Marlin of protecting Lawler and he says that he’s not, he just has to work his way up to prove to him that he’s a title contender. He says that he’ll work his way up by beating Jerry Lawler Monday night, but Marlin tells him that he’s already booked against Jeff Gaylord on Monday. Lawler says that as long as Eddie keeps this stance and keeps them apart, all he’s doing is giving credibility to all these lies that Snowman is spouting out. Lawler tells him again that he’s already got a match and if he wants him, he’s got him. ‘The King’ takes his shirt off and the two of them square off. Eddie Marlin has had enough by now and tells Lawler if he wants to run things ‘you run it’, but the USWA is not sanctioning the match and he hopes that they beat each other’s brains out if they ever do get in the ring. Lawler tells Snowman that he’ll be standing in the ring Monday night at the Mid-South Coliseum, he’ll have the belt with him and it’s time to put up or shut up! Snowman says he’s never liked Lawler, he’s no King and he’ll be there Monday night. Second week of the angle and second home run segment. I preferred last week to this, but that is taking nothing away from what happened here. Norvell Austin’s brother was surprisingly good and makes a valid point about Snowman having beaten Dibiase, Williams et al (of course this didn’t happen in Memphis so it is easy to say that he never beat anyone here). I also liked Eddie Marlin here and how they eventually ended up booking the match as everything made sense and was all very logical. Roll on Monday night at the Coliseum now!

Something about poison and infectious wounds and a bit of talk that Rick Rude will fall once again to the full poison and power of the Ultimate Warrior! I was starting to dread Kerry Von Erich’s interviews every bit as much as the Warrior’s, then this reminded me that as bad as Kerry’s are, they will never be as bad as the Warrior’s.
-
Rick Rude is back in the gym and he has learned that history has a tendency to repeat itself. Everyone knows that the only man that he is the only man to beat the Ultimate Warrior for a title, and what the world is about to find out is that he is the only man who can beat him right now. Heenan says that they are going all the way to the top and then Rude climbs up a rope to the ceiling of the gym using only his arms. Rude says that the climb to the top is not an easy thing to do, but he’s going to take the Warrior’s title. I do like these skits but can’t believe that they’ve been running for nearly two months now.

This week Brother Love has not one guest, but two and the first is Hulk Hogan. The Hulkster joins him but before he can say anything Love cuts him off and says that his second guest is the Earthquake. His music plays but no sign of Earthquake and Jimmy Hart makes his way out to the set on his own. Hogan wonders where Earthquake is at? He doesn’t feel the tremors and doesn’t feel the ground opening up and swallowing all his Hulkamaniacs. Hart says that the Earthquake isn’t here due to doctors’ orders; he’s got a 105 degree temperature and a severe case of the sore throat! Hogan grabs Hart by the jacket and tells him if he doesn’t get the Earthquake out here right now he’ll be the only natural disaster! Hart tells him to keep his hands off him, and then from the back comes a chair wielding Earthquake which he nails Hogan in the back with. He puts his foot on his chest and cups his ear a la Hogan, before delivering three Earthquake splashes. A bunch of referees and officials try to get Hart and Earthquake out of there and call for someone to get a paramedic. A stretcher comes and they cut to a shot of the crowd with everyone looking concerned about what has happened. Vince McMahon is even out there and Hogan is put on the stretcher with Vince screaming to get him out of there. This was a strong angle and a heck of an attempt to get Earthquake over. I’m not sure what the situation with blood was at this time, but a trickle of blood from the mouth would’ve done wonders here, especially as it was clear Earthquake was greatly protecting Hogan when delivering those splashes. Having Vince down there in the chaotic scenes certainly added to the spectacle, and the shots of the crowd let you know that they had believed what they had just seen and were worried.

The USWA dignitaries Eddie Marlin, Charlie Downs and John Brozell are in the ring prior to the participants entering the arena. Borne looks like one tough, cool hombre walking to the ring with a towel around his neck and the belt around his waist. Craig Johnson explains that Kerry gave Borne the Texas title in an attempt to save their friendship (that clears that one up). Pringle says he said it the other week and it got him in trouble, but Kerry shouldn’t have done that and should have fought him like the man that he says he is. Just like the previous match, a real hot opening with Borne charging at Kerry at the opening bell and the pair of them trading punches. Borne with a lovely belly to belly to reverse positions and they continue to exchange punches. Both men take spills out of the ring and the lumberjacks are on hand to send them straight back in. Kerry with a sleeper and the two of them go tumbling over the top rope to the floor. The lumberjacks struggle to keep them separated and Craig Johnson suggests that the action is too big for a ring to hold. Back in the ring and Kerry with the claw before two near falls. Borne tosses Kerry out of the ring but he crashes into the commentary table hitting Percy Pringle. Kerry with a discus punch and Percy gets up on the ring apron wanting some sort of explanation about what just happened as his jacket also got torn. The distraction allows Borne to roll Kerry up from behind and keep the title. The match didn’t even last four minutes but I really enjoyed this. Great brawling at the beginning and Borne continues to impress giving off that vibe of a legit bad ass. Finish was obviously cheap, but just another step in the continued Pringle heel turn that has been hinted at for the past few weeks.

It looks like something has just gone on, as we join this as the commentators talk about Dundee coming to the defence of Tessa and she’s now in the opposite corner. Dundee unloads with some rights and with Tatum reeling he pushes him to the canvas. Tatum is on his knees begging for mercy, but when the ‘Superstar’ whips him into the ropes, Tatum holds on and Dundee dropkicks the air. Tatum slams Dundee but the ‘Superstar’s’ feet collide with referee Tony Falk knocking him down. Tatum goes to the top turnbuckle but Tessa starts shaking the ropes and he crotches himself. Dundee covers him and Falk comes back around in time to count the three. Tessa leaves with Dundee and the two of them share a kiss with Craig Johnson saying what a cute couple they make.

Adams forward rolls to Austin who darts out the ring but ends up cutting his back on the barbed wire in the process. He gets back in the ring and this time Adams comes at him with a front flip, and he’s out of there again but cutting his back up some more. The match finally gets going and Adams drags Austin over to the barbed wire trying to cut his forehead but Austin holds him off. Jeannie is great here looking worried and concerned that her man could end up getting maimed. The two of them continue, almost in turns, trying to cut the others face, but the only blood in the match is from Austin accidentally cutting his own back at the start. Austin with a powerslam and he climbs to the top turnbuckle but misses the big splash. After these past couple of matches he needs to think about eliminating that move from his repertoire! Adams with a piledriver and then it’s his turn to climb the ropes. He comes off with a splash of his own but Austin gets his knees up. Austin presses Adams over his head as if he’s about to drop him on the barbed wire but Adams reverses it into a crucifix for the pin. Jeannie hands Austin some brass knux after the match and he nails Adams laying him out. She then passes him a chair which he uses to beat him with and to add insult to injury, Jeannie scratches him in the face before the two of them make their way out of there. I liked this match and it had a nice finish too. Jeannie really came into her own as well as a valet, with the way that she was reacting to what was going on in the ring. I do think Adams has been too giving in this feud so it was nice to see him come out on top in the match, even if Austin did lay him out post-match.

Jim Cornette has been joined tonight by his close personal friend and his special guest, ‘Sugar Ray’ Long and Mean Mark. Not the most welcome of response from the crowd and Cornette tells the rednecks to show a little respect. He says how Mean Mark has been winning a lot of matches with that heart punch and wants to know how he developed that thing? Teddy says that he’s not here to talk about Mean Mark and the heart punch, he’s here to make a major announcement, one that’s so big that the CNN news camera are out here live to tape. In Mean Mark he sees a World Heavyweight champion, but what he sees in Doom are the World tag team champions. As great a manager as he is, and as busy as he is, he just doesn’t have time to see to them both. What he’s going to do is stick with the ‘soul brothers’ Doom and sell Mean Mark’s contract live on the Louisville Slugger tonight. Cornette is quite excited that this is happening on his show until Teddy says that he’s selling the contract to Paul E. Dangerously. He queries whether Teddy is sure and that he’s had Paul E.’s credit rating checked! Dangerously joins them and Cornette’s not happy and tells Teddy to at least take cash from him (how prophetic!). Paul E. says that he’s not here to cause trouble, but he and Cornette continue to bicker and Long has to get between them to calm the situation. Paul says that the deal is done, Mean Mark is the next World Heavyweigh champion and with his heart punch, no-one, not Lex Luger, not Sting, not the Steiners can stop him. Long says that the only reason he chose to sell to Paul E. was because he offered him more money than anyone else and Cornette closes by saying he’s heard of being bit by a snake, but he’s never heard of being bought by a snake!

Freebirds with the heat on Ricky Morton which included seeing him take an impressive little bump through the ropes to the floor when Garvin tossed him outside. Morton blocks a Hayes bulldog attempt, freeing himself and making the tag to Gibson. All four men end up in the ring and Garvin again tosses Morton to the outside. Hayes with a DDT on Gibson, but he starts strutting and celebrating instead of making the cover. Morton posts Garvin and Hayes goes for a second DDT, but this time Morton comes off the top with a sunset flip for the win. Ricky gets a few shots in with the strap on the ‘birds before they get out of there. Nice finish to this but that was about it.

Returning to the NWA is the Junkyard Dog! He says that he’s been all over the world but is now back in the NWA and looking towards the Four Horsemen, Mean Mark and anybody else who wants to step in the dog yard. Play time is over, he’s here to stay! Jim Cornette joins them and he’s annoyed as this interview time was allocated for the winners of the U.S. tag title match, the Midnight Express, and not for the Junkyard Dog. Cornette wonders where the JYD has been these past few years while the Midnight Express have been winning matches and titles. The Dog says: ‘I’ve been at 845 Deberry Street, Louisville, KY. Do you know where that is?’ ‘That’s my mother’s house!’ ‘That’s what I’m saying. I’m your Daddy!’ Cornette tries to blindside the JYD with his tennis racket but the Dog catches it and he scarpers out of there. I wondered why this had been put on the set, then laughed out loud at ‘that’s my mother’s house’ and then I knew! Fun little segment.

Gordon Solie is backstage waiting for Sting and Robocop. They arrive, flanked by security, and Solie tells the Horsemen to watch out and we then ‘lose’ the transmission signal. Gary Michael Cappetta gives the introduction of all introductions to Sting, and then Robocop, but while the camera is focussed on the aisle, the Horsemen jump Sting and lock him in the penalty cage that was used for the previous match. Robocop slowly makes his way down, pulls the steel door off the cage freeing Sting and the Horsemen all back off and want no part of him. Ridiculous! After all the Horsemen’s pre-Capital Combat talk about Robocop and then having the three of them (Ole, Arn and Sid) act all scared and afraid of him. I had never heard about the movie company wanting the wrestlers to bump for Robocop so praise be for small mercies. Still dreadful though!

Ole, Arn and tuxedo Sid have a few words to say to Tony Schiavone. Ole says how everyone has been talking about how great Lex Luger is and what a courageous man he is, but as far as they’re concerned, only an idiot would do what Lex Luger is doing. He guarantees that if Luger makes it out here, his last breath will be in that squared circle because the Horsemen have never allowed a title to leave the hands of the World Champion, Ric Flair, and they’re not going to let it happen tonight. Flair steps in to join them and tells Lex that if he’s got a problem with that leg going into this match he’ll be a one legged athlete for the rest of his life. When he walks that aisle he pays the price for thinking that one day in his life he is half the man that he is every day! Arn says that they are individuals, thinking individually, working collectively, towards the same goal. They are all synchronised gears working together to keep what belongs to the Horsemen and they’ll die before they let Ric Flair lose that title. Three strong promos from Ole, Flair and Double A and I liked Sid as this menacing, imposing figure watching on from the back. I did wonder what Flair was talking about in his promo, so thanks for the clarification that he had a staph infection and was injured going in to this match.

Austin says that everyone knows he had an ‘I Quit’ match with Chris Adams last night and in this match the stipulation was that his Jeannie, the helpless, defenceless, petite woman that she is, was to be locked in a steel cage. About the five minute mark he slapped on the Figure Four on Adams. Austin says that you would have thought he was killing him from the way he was screaming and hollering, but he yelled ‘I Quit’ and he then raised his hand in victory. The cry baby that Chris Adams is now wants a barbed wire match. That doesn’t bother him though as he’ll take him on in any kind of match he wants because he is the Superstar, he owns him, he owns two pairs of his boots, he owns his dog, he’s got Jeanie and he’s on his way to the top. Jeannie says does Adams really think that penalty boxes and barbed wire will stop her? She’s going to be here with Steve no matter what. She says how she’s thinking about writing a book to tell everyone about some of the skeletons in Chris’ closet. What he got up to in England, what he had to do to survive in Los Angeles, in Oregon. This book is going to be better than the National Enquirer and she’s even bought and old promo photo of herself and Chris that she plans to put in it. These people who cheer for Chris Adams don’t know him like she does, and she knows they don’t like her just because she is superior to them. She has better clothes, a better body and all those ladies husbands at home are thinking about her. By the time she is finished with the book Chris will be heading for divorce number two. It’s like a broken record when it comes to Austin but you continue to see the improvement every week with him. Jeannie’s best interview to date although I felt she went on a touch too long and she’s still not ‘quite’ there just yet.

Bill Dundee is out for an interview with Percy Pringle and Percy is glad that Dundee has his belt back. Dundee says that he never thought about it until John Tatum bought it up, but did Tessa throw that boot to himself or Tatum? He’s interrupted by an angry Tatum dragging Tessa with him. Tatum manhandles her, telling her to stand by him, before telling Dundee that she didn’t throw the boot to him it was a mistake, she doesn’t want to kiss him and doesn’t care about him either. He grabs Tessa by the neck and nigh on forces her to admit she loves him. Dundee says he believes that if he was to grab her by the neck like he did, she’d tell him she loved him! He tells him that they’ll fight later and everyone knows who won last week and he’ll win Tessa too! Dundee heads back to the dressing room only to be jumped by Tatum who throws him into the ring post busting him open. He continues to beat on Dundee with Tessa trying to get him to stop but he just pushes her away. Tatum leaves Dundee in a bloody mess on the floor and asks Tessa if she wants to kiss him now? Billy Joe Travis and Jeff Jarrett end up coming to help the ‘Superstar’ up and to the back. Good angle and Texas is on fire at the moment. Tatum is awesome as this possessive, abusive boyfriend, we get a blade job, some nice selling from Dundee and I’m liking what I’ve seen of Tessa so far too. Pringle is annoying during this to the point I wish he would shut up. He’s practically giving a running commentary on what’s going on whilst also sounding pretty pathetic at times (‘John, don’t do this! Stop him Tessa!’). I do think a lot of the problem is to do with his voice more than anything mind, but then if he was quiet, that wouldn’t be an issue. With Loss saying that this angle is only getting started can’t wait to see where we go from here.

Terrance Garvin wants to speak with Percy Pringle as he knows who destroyed the birthday party (not sure whose party as I think we’re missing a bit of TV), but before he says who, he wants Kerry Von Erich to come out here and he wants him to show him the $1,000. Before Kerry is even out, Gary Young is up and in the ring saying he didn’t do anything, he hasn’t got a beef with the Von Erich’s and Garvin just wants the money and will say anything to get it. Kerry joins them and Young continues to go off on Garvin telling him to leave him out of it. Percy says that he hasn’t mentioned Young’s name at all and wonders if he might be telling on himself? Kerry tells Young to shut his mouth, asks Garvin what he knows and Terrance says that Gary Young was the one who wrecked the party. Young tries to worm his way out of it saying that he did see there was a party last week, but when he saw that, thought that they should just return to the dressing room and not work out like they had planned to. He didn’t know that there were boots in the box or a watch, at which point Garvin jumps in and says if young didn’t do it, how did he know about the boots? That proves it! Kerry seems a bit confused with everything so Percy says again to him ‘how did he know about the boots?’ Young claims Garvin is lying, but when Kerry hands him the money, Young jumps him. He beats on him until Kevin Von Erich makes the save and Young gets out of there. Pringle finished up by saying ‘the snitch’ Terrance Garvin is $1,000 richer. He’s heard about his reputation as a stooge, but now he knows it’s true! Weird angle with Young outing himself. Why not have Garvin tell Kerry it was him, then have him come out and try to talk his way out of it? All seemed a bit backwards to me.

Matt Borne comes out and wants to shake Percy Pringle’s hand as he is the only man that’s spoken the truth. He says that he’s sorry that he slapped Chris Von Erich as it got him nowhere, he might as well have slapped Fritz, but he’s not sorry for anything else. He’s the Texas champion and he’s ecstatic that he’s got this lumberjack match coming up against Kerry. He’s going to prove to everyone, to all those girls who wet their pants when he comes out and takes off his robe, that Kerry Von Erich is built for show, and not for go! Another enjoyable Borne promo and I’m really enjoying him here in World Class. I know I shouldn’t try to work out what’s going on with the titles, but how did Borne becoming Texas champion? Reading between the lines did Kerry just give it him? I think we’ve missed a bit of TV which probably isn’t helping matters.

Kerry’s not happy with Percy calling him a coward. He says how he’s always been one of his biggest supporters and where does he get off saying that he’s afraid to fight and hasn’t been fair with the title? Percy says that he never called him a coward, but this is professional wrestling and when you’re the champion, you defend it against whomever they tell you too and he never did that. Kerry says how Matt Borne wanted to fight him and he didn’t want to fight a friend. If he wanted to wrestle him, he would’ve wrestled him straight away, but now he has given him a reason to fight him. Percy points out that if he had just done this in the first place, what happened to Chris would have never happened at all. Kerry says how his brother Chris has been degraded. It was his first time on TV, but now he’s sat at home in the ranch and won’t leave the house. Matt Borne has got a fight on his hands and he’ll take his head off in this lumberjack match. This was Kerry at his rambling, repetitive worst. He lost his train of thought on a couple of occasions and I have little doubt he forgot that he had to plug that it was a lumberjack match until Percy mentioned it towards the end of the interview. Kerry also comes across as a baby, whining about Pringle calling him a ‘coward’, not how you want your top face to be portrayed. This was bad, but it would have been a whole lot worse without Percy trying to hold it together and being there to prompt Kerry.

No Woman with the Horseman tonight and Sid is in his tuxedo again. Very similar in context to the promo from last week on Saturday Night where everyone got a bit of talk time. Go home interview before Capital Combat later on that evening and with Arn referring to Robocop as the ‘Boogey Man’ this week. Lex says how Capital Combat is just a few hours away and the adrenaline is already starting to pump. The talking is done. The Four Horsemen and Lex Luger have been going at it for a year and a half but there’s one thing that’s been constant, and that is there has always been outside interference, whether it’s J.J. Dillon, Tully Blanchard, Ole Anderson or Woman. This time he’s got Ric Flair the way he wants him, in a cage, clothesline vs figure four, man vs man and if he can’t beat him in the middle in the cage, he’ll never ask for another World title shot again. Good short promo from Lex, but this is virtually guaranteeing the title change. Was that ever on the cards? Even a quick exchange between Ric and he until Sting is ready to come back? Strange thing for Lex to be told to say if he knew he was never going to be getting the strap.

Connie is some investigative journalist type who informs us that pro wrestling is fake and a completely choreographed show. I would never have known, thanks Connie! We get some tape of the Gordon family from Pennsylvania at home watching the Royal Rumble and its Tod Gordon!!! Chung says that from this one TV show, Hulk Hogan and the company can rake in more than a Mike Tyson fight or a Rolling Stones tour. She claims that wrestling promoters are frantically searching for the next Hulk Hogan and one of the pretenders to his throne is ‘Nature Boy’ Ric Flair, World Champion of the rival National Wrestling Alliance. If it’s not him, maybe it’s Lex Luger, who played in the NFL or even Sting. Luger talks about making more money in one year in professional wrestling than he did in his whole career as an offensive linesman in pro football, while Sting says that he had no interest in wrestling until they started talking about the marketing and the money. Chung talks about how Ted Turner (who does get interviewed) bought the NWA and turned this fading troop into a staggering success, out rating his baseball and basketball teams and drawing $33 million in revenue in its first year. Jim Wilson turns up calling wrestling a ‘stunt man, soap opera’ saying that the matches are choreographed and the participants know prior to the matches who is going to win and who is going to lose. Wilson says that promoters work out the details in meetings and claims that he was blackballed for refusing to go along with the script one night. He claims that he was told he would never wrestle for the NWA again and he never did. Chung says that those who stick to the script and do well at the box office are rewarded with million dollar salaries and championship titles. Jim Herd is on and says that wrestling is basically a ‘popularity contest’ and they air the Sting injury and say how even the best laid plans can backfire with a little slip. Chung says how the promotions hopes for Sting are out the window, and claims that it will cost them millions in lost revenue. Fear not though! As waiting in the wings is 7’6”, Jorge Gonzales. The report closes with Tod Gordon saying that if you try to work out whether wrestling in real or not, the enjoyment is gone. The idea is just to sit back and escape from reality for a bit. I imagine this might’ve been a pretty big deal back in 1990, but in 2016… It was interesting seeing the likes of Flair, Sting, Luger and the Road Warriors out of character, but someone from the NWA should have put their foot down and got them to edit out Sting’s comments about only being in wrestling for the money. I also enjoyed the brief look at the wardrobe department where they were working on El Gigante’s costume and the talk from the lighting director. The Jim Wilson appearance was odd. I’m guessing he was the only one prepared to speak out and where on earth did they get Tod Gordon from? It’s some coincidence for him to be on this.

A taped Kerry promo airs and he references the motorcycle accident from a couple of years ago. He talks about his match with Jerry Lawler from Superclash III was stopped for blood when he had ‘The King’ down and pinned. He’s in the best shape of his life and is coming to take that title Monday night. Dave Brown closes by recapping when Kerry made an appearance in the studio and poured water over Lawler’s head. After the angle with the Snowman I have zero interest in this match or what was said.
-
Dave Brown says that Jerry Lawler has an upcoming title defence against Kerry Von Erich and they have a fair bit of history between them. Lawler joins Dave and ‘The King recaps how the Unified title came about. How he went to Verne Gagne with the idea of having a one night tournament on PPV featuring all the World champions, including the likes of Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair, to find out who is the one and only true World Heavyweight champion. Of course he didn’t get any response from the WWF or the NWA as they wanted their champions to only wrestle other wrestlers that wrestle for their company. What they were admitting by doing this is that their champions are not ‘World’ champions, they are company champions, which is what he knew all along. To his surprise, World Class accepted the challenge and at Superclash III he defeated Kerry Von Erich to become the Unified Heavyweight champion and that has eatedn away at Kerry ever since. He had to walk out of that ring on national TV a loser and had to go back to Dallas, where he is worshipped like a God, no longer a champion. At this point a man approaches the interview desk and Dave tells him that they are doing an interview. He puts the mic in front of him and starts to say something when he is almost immediately cut off by Eddie Marlin who is out there sharpish. He tells Snowman that this is their wrestling program and he has no business being out there unless he contacts him or one of the USWA officials. The Snowman tells Marlin that he’s not going to contact him again as all he ever does is contact him. Marlin explains how he booked Snowman in the CWA everywhere and he refused to make his bookings as he only wanted to wrestle Jerry Lawler. Snowman says that’s what he wants and he’s here to make an open challenge to him. Marlin says that he’s not challenging him, he’s challenging his company and he’s not going to put up with it. He’ll put him on the card Monday, but it won’t be against Jerry Lawler, he can work his way up just like all the other wrestlers. Snowman says that he’s not working his way up and Marlin tells him that he won’t be getting a title shot then. Snowman tells Lawler that he’s sick and tired of him putting down his people, putting down on the black people with all his talk of welfare cheques and food stamps. He’s sick and tired of him, claims that he’s hiding behind Eddie Marlin and won’t wrestle him because he is black. Marlin is having none of that and thinks the Snowman is trying to make it racial so he can get all the black fans on his side. Snowman says how they don’t have one black wrestler to take Jerry Lawler out and Marlin responds that the Junkyard Dog came in and that Brickhouse Brown is black, but Snowman dismisses them both as nothing. Eddie has had enough by now and tries to get Snowman to go and sit back down but Lawler has got some things of his own to say. If the Snowman thinks he’s afraid of him he’s mistaken as he isn’t scared of anyone. He says that the Snowman is using the racial card as an excuse claiming that he’s not getting a title shot because he’s black, when really it is because he won’t take the time and trouble to work his way up to one. Marlin once more tries to get Snowman out of there, even bringing over security, while Snowman again claims that Lawler is hiding behind Marlin. ‘The King’ has now had enough and takes off his shirt and gets in the ring with Marlin having to stop Snowman from getting in there himself. Snowman states that they know the white wrestlers can’t beat Lawler and they’re worried that they would end up with ‘a black King’. Marlin says that it wouldn’t bother him at all, as long as they worked their way up for a title shot, while Lawler reminds everyone about King Cobra. Cobra worked his way up and beat him, then he regained the title after working his way back up; Snowman just wants everything given to him. Snowman then warns Lawler to watch his back on Monday night as they might be able to run him out of here, but they can’t stop him from buying a ticket for the Coliseum. Dave Brown finally says that they have heard enough and tells security to escort him out of here. Lawler starts to talk about Snowman when a member of the audience heckles him. You can’t hear what is said, but he goes over and gets right in the fan’s face. He returns to Dave and says how Snowman has gone to newspapers, to every black radio station, to anyone who will listen, complaining that he doesn’t get booked in this organisation because of his colour. Lawler says that there are as many black people in Memphis as there are white and there is nothing Eddie Marlin would love more than to book a black World Champion. Snowman just wants everything given to him, he wants to walk in and on day one have a title match but he doesn’t deserve it. If he starts and works his way up he will wrestle him any day of the week, but he hasn’t earned one yet. It’s not a racial issue, he doesn’t care what colour a man’s skin is when he defends his World title against them, its just that Snowman isn’t a World title contender. He closes by returning to Kerry Von Erich and tells him that he’ll be returning to Texas with his tail between his legs. This was some gripping television, not just wrestling television, but television, and easily the angle of the year so far. Eddie Marlin was MVP, but Snowman, Lawler and even Dave Brown were perfect, while Lawler going over to get in that fan’s face gave it an added element of realism. I wasn’t too keen on Snowman blowing off the comments on King Cobra, but I suppose you could just claim he’s delusional and blinkered in his views. Can’t wait to see what happens on Monday at the Coliseum and how things progress from here.

Rude is doing sprints on the beach and Bobby Heenan hopes that the Ultimate Warrior is watching because they’re hard at work. Rick Rude is running, running after him and he’s going to catch him! Heenan shows Rude the time and Rude says that he can beat it; he can also beat the Ultimate Warrior. He’s the one who took his title, the only man who’s ever beaten him and he’s going to pound his body endlessly until he crumbles to the mat. He’s coming to get him and he’s coming to take his title. Rude then tells ‘The Brain’ five more miles, before continuing his sprinting.

Brother Love’s guest today is Tugboat and the two of them have a short chat about nothing before they are joined by Hulk Hogan. Love is not happy with him interrupting his show and wonders what he is doing here? Hogan says that he’s known Tugboat since he was a youngster, he’s the one who bought him to the WWF (thanks Hulk!) and this is what happens when you live by the three commandments of Hulkamania! If things start to get a little rough for him he knows the Tugboat will be watching his back, and if Tugboat ever needed any help himself, he will be right there by his side. Love says how Hogan was a big man interrupting his show today and challenges him to come on his show next week when his guest will be even bigger than Tugboat, the Earthquake! This really is a horrendous gimmick and look! It does feel like the start of a long, slow build for Tugboat eventually turning on his mentor but it never went that way.
