Great match! Ozaki in particular is really good here, and is one of the better wrestlers at working "tough" even though she's on the smaller side. This had almost no heat, which is a shame (and a pattern I've noticed with many JWP matches in '96).

I don't think the match improved after the epic staredown at the beginning. That was awesome. I just can't get past Kansai's outfit. She looks like a female Buzz Lightyear.

I should mention that the buildup to this was a pull-apart brawl in a swimming pool!

 

I appreciated this even more 2nd time around. Soup for the wrestling fans soul with a more grounded heavyweight style. The match type favoured the champion as Oz needed a few shortcuts against a stronger foe. Kansai made sure it couldn't develop into an outside brawl. The duration, pacing and structure all felt just right. I was engaged throughout. Ozaki's facials and acting were simply amazing before, during and after the match. As the viewer I was living through the match with her as she unloaded everything she had to try and upset the odds. It just wasn't quite enough as Dyno's additional firepower proved the difference. After a painful defeat a tear came to Mayumi's eye, but she soon thought 'toughen up girl'. Great performance from Professor Oz.

So, the running themes in wrestling for 1996 were: takeover angles, shocking heel turns, and fights in bodies of water. Got it.

 

Pretty good match, though these ladies have had better. The counters and re-counters at the end surrounding the Splash Mountain were awesome. The pattern of heatless joshi matches--in AJW as well as JWP--continues.

JWP continues to be my joshi jam although again the crowd let me down here. Good back and forth action and Kansai looked dominant but also gave Ozaki some openings throughout the match. Emotional ending with Ozaki being defeated. Really good stuff. ***1/ 2

I wasn't into this match for a while but they won me over once they started working the match around sleeper holds for a bit. Ozaki struggling against the sleeper on the outside was awesome. Cool ending around the powerbomb.
