Loss
Bob Armstrong does a promo from home with his ribs taped up while Steve and Scott are at his side. Bob Armstrong is a tremendous promo. Armstrong resigns as commissioner of SMW, but announces that when resigning, he will also be submitting an application to wrestle. Cornette is in stitches over this video and is wearing a radioactive yellow blazer. Cornette and Pritchard announce that Jimmy Del Ray has replaced Stan Lane in the Heavenly Bodies. Kevin Ridge
Not sure why everyone has their shirts off. Maybe the AC is broken. Bob has resigned as commissioner of SMW so he can get back in the ring. The new and improved Heavenly Bodies as Del Ray replaces Lane on the team. Del Ray is quite in love with himself. PeteF3
After Rage in the Cage, the heel team crucified Bob Armstrong against the cage with handcuffs and he was beaten half to death. Scott and Steve Armstrong are now in SMW to go after Cornette and the Bodies: "Your mama can't pay her way out of this." Bob is resigning as commissioner, and is coming back to wrestle! Cornette is in hysterics. He's gotten what he wants. Jimmy Del Ray is here! Stan Lane has quit for a WWF commentator's job been sent packing in a loser-leaves-town match. Del Ray is Prichard's "cousin" (???) Del Ray is immediately the biggest, sleaziest scuzzball any of you will ever see.
WingedEagle
Clips of Bob with Steve & Scott, his ribs taped and big glasses on. Presumably post-Rage In the Cage. Bob is resigning as commissioner and applying to be a wrestler to get revenge on Cornette. Pritchard excited his cousin Jimmy Del Rey can make his debut. I guess no tape of Lane's departure or that event. Del Rey has nothing to say about wrestling, and that's for the best. Not exactly a talker. soup23
Steve Armstrong looked jacked but this was another strong promo from Bob who is applying for a petition to wrestle. Jimmy Del Ray is on board and I must say it feels a bit of a letdown after seeing Stan and Eaton in the picture just weeks before. He does give a pretty sleezy promo and ends it with some hideous dancing winning me over.
GSR
Clips of Bob with Steve & Scott, his ribs taped and big glasses on. Presumably post-Rage In the Cage. I guess no tape of Lane's departure or that event. Del Rey has nothing to say about wrestling, and that's for the best. Not exactly a talker. It actually aired on this very episode of SMW TV (5/22) and Gibson pinned Lane after a leglock/bridge combination. I know the Yearbooks can't air everything but when watching the season sets and comparing them to what made the cut, it's strange that this was omitted (the match was jip on TV anyway) after the build up it had received. The Anderson debut and Bob Armstrong discovering that Eaton was still under contract to WCW and he would be gone as soon as he lost the Beat the Champ title were other odd omissions. GSR
The Heavenly Bodies and Jim Cornette are out for an interview and Bob Caudle opens by playing a video from Bob Armstrong who is at home and flanked by his sons, Scott and Steve. He says that it's an Armstrong tradition that they pay their debts and he owes Cornette plenty. In over twenty years he's never taken a beating like he did in Knoxville, his ribs are cracked, his sternum is cracked and the handcuffs cracked his wrist. All he's got to do is wait and heal up and there are enough of us Armstrongs to make an army. His Mama can't pay her way out of this as there isn't enough money to buy him and his boys. He's resigning as Commissioner of Smoky Mountain Wrestling, but along with that resignation letter will be a letter of application as he wants to be a wrestler. This isn't going unpaid, Cornette may be laughing now, but he'll have the last laugh and will see him sooner than he thinks. Cornette is in the studio laughing at Armstrong and says he's never had a beating like that because he's never come across a real man like Jim Cornette and the Heavenly Bodies. Armstrong is no longer Commissioner and he was hospitalized at his hands; he got what he wanted and got even for all those times that he stacked the decks against them. The only satisfaction he got was at the Last Tango in Tennessee the Rock & Roll Express came out on top and Stan Lane was sent packing, but he has pulled the rug out from under him and put together the ultimate Heavenly Bodies combination. Prichard introduces his cousin, 'Gigolo' Jimmy Del Ray, and says that he is happy that he gets to make his professional wrestling debut alongside him. He has been training in Palm Beach for the past four years with the best, waiting for an opening and opportunity which has now arrived. Cornette warns Steve & Scott to come on with their vengeance and vendetta as he's got something waiting for them in the form of the Heavenly Bodies and this time they will rule Smoky Mountain Wrestling. garretta
What a money promo from Bullet Bob. I remember seeing the beating on Will's SMW set, and it was nonstop for almost ten minutes, with no faces coming close to making the save. It ran so long that my dad got sick of watching it. At any rate, the game is definitely on now if it wasn't before. Scott and Steve had their shirts off deliberately to show off their physiques, which was a nice subtle psychological ploy on their father's part. I'd have liked to have heard a bit from Steve, but maybe we will in the weeks to come. This may get monotonous over the next little while, but Corny hit it out of the park again. Even with Lane gone, he's still on top of the world after seeing Bullet Bob busted up, and with Del Ray to take Stan's place, there's no reason why he can't stay there for a long, long time, or so he thinks. Dr. Tom did a great job introducing Jigolo Jimmy, who immediately began to live up to his name. He'll definitely be in third place behind Corny and Dr. Tom when it comes to talking, but so was Stan. The important thing is what happens in the ring, and they miss very little once Jimmy gets the hang of being a Body. Was it Stan or Jimmy who helped to beat up Bullet Bob? If it was Stan, they could have used the incident as an excuse to ban him from SMW and thus try to break up the Bodies, which would be thwarted when Corny brought in Del Ray. Then again, maybe they thought that having Rock 'n' Roll beat Stan and send him out of town was a way to keep that feud hot and give the Bodies two feuds to worry about.
