Joe Fowler is the announcer here. I don't recall ever seeing him before or after this.

Bret and Lawler both bring the goods. I don't know that he has the rep for it, but Bret is one of the best interviews in wrestling at this point.

Fowler debuted at Summerslam. He took over the Survivor Series Center and Event Center stuff after Gene left. He's pretty onerous.

I really love Face to Face though. I can't say that enough. One would miss out on a big chunk of 1993 WWF if he just watched the Raws.

I think Fowler was gone by Survivor Series as he was replaced by Monsoon on Face to Face. Bret hates Lawler's stinking guts and doesn't know Jerry beat to proclaim himself King. Well he did get the victory at Summerslam over Bret!

It's nice to see these two go after each other in a completely serious manner. How could Vince see promos like this and promote Lawler as the jioke he became? I'm no fan of heel Lawler when you come down to it, but he's really brought the goods in this feud when he's been allowed to,

I agree about Bret being one of the best interviews in wrestling at this point. He had to be in order to keep pace with Lawler.

Fowler may or may not be bad on his own, but he's a piss-poor replacement for Okerlund, who knows how to do segments such as this better than anyone else in the business.

The card being hyped here had just six matches on it, which is a ripoff given that it was promoted as a Supercard. One of the matches was Bob Backlund needing eight minutes to beat Duane Gill, who if I'm not mistaken was still a jobber like he had been five and six years before when I was following the WWF in real time. As far as this match went, Bret won by DQ when one of the masked Knights piledrove Owen on the floor, then attacked and double-teamed Bret along with Lawler.

Joe Fowler is poor. A weird tag match with IRS and Diesel teaming up. We then get to Hart vs Lawler and they do good going back and forth. I like the concept of face to face but it never seemed like it worked quite as well in execution as they had hoped.

  • GSR changed the title to [1993-10-02-WWF-Superstars] Face to Face: Bret Hart and Jerry Lawler
