I loved, LOVED those Goldust vignette. Every one of them. It was mysterious, creepy, different. Just loved every minute of them and couldn't wait to see the character debut.

At this point, we don't see Goldust yet. It's just Howard Finkel announcing him with glitter spelling out the name.

Yeah, I remember those too.

It's worth noting that nobody reported the actual gimmick before the first promo video with Dustin. Everyone was under the impression that he was going to be some kind of "Hollywood cowboy."

Right, even though all us sheet-readers knew this was going to be Dustin, everyone was absolutely aghast the first time they actually saw him. There were several weeks of these announcement-only bits, and this had to be one of the longer newcomer build-ups the WWF ever did.

 

It could have been worse. When wwe.com posted a bunch of prototype sketches, there were several of Dustin in Egyptian garb in a gimmick blatantly ripped off from Stargate.
