Al Posted November 1, 2012 Report Posted November 1, 2012 Serious question: has there ever been a complete chickenshit heel that has drawn big money? I suppose you could always point to Ric Flair, but the more he was bitched out, the less he drew.Bobby Heenan. The problem is that you can't run a heel of that type in the ring very often.
blueminister Posted November 2, 2012 Report Posted November 2, 2012 Wasn't the key to Gorgeous George drawing that though he played an effeminate fop, appearances were deceiving and he could hold his own in the squared circle?Inasmuch as he didn't play an incompetent but there were a lot of avoidance, throes of death and begging off spots.
Victator Posted November 2, 2012 Report Posted November 2, 2012 So he would not have been fully squashed in a main event and saved by an evil ref.
blueminister Posted November 2, 2012 Report Posted November 2, 2012 I'm not even sure what point you're making any more but in terms of athletic credibility an anachronistic evil main event ref would have probably been a lateral move from "gets squashed entire match and gets flash pin off of an opponent who thinks match is over."
Victator Posted November 2, 2012 Report Posted November 2, 2012 The point is George would not have allowed himself to be squashed for an entire match, before winning thanks to someone else. The finish put all of the heat on the evil ref and none on Punk. Its like Tully Blanchard said in his shoot about managers. He would never allow JJ Dillion or Baby Doll to directly interfere in a match. Because they would get the heat, not him. That was a shit finish because it put all the heat on the evil ref and took the focus off of the World Champion. It would have been better to let Punk get a flash roll up and fast count. At least that way, Punk seems competent. You can still have Ryback kill the ref and Punk. Honky Tonk Man was never squashed that badly. Not counting where he actually lost the belt.
