Loss Posted August 14, 2013 Author Report Posted August 14, 2013 1997 and Lawler is still wearing that shirt. He cuts a total babyface promo on ECW and references Tommy Dreamer. I love the subtle burial from Lance Russell of Dreamer in this. He correctly points out that brawling was happening in Memphis a long time ago, so they aren't going to show them anything they haven't seen before, but they did send in a video by Nirvana. Lawler's comments on Kurt Cobain are so jawdropping that they really have to be heard. We cut to the ECW video to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and seeing this on USWA TV is totally surreal. Russell is in disbelief and points out that they could pull videos from their library of Lawler doing almost all of the same stuff! Lawler issues a challenge to Dreamer to come to the USWA and take a beating. Pretty damned cool. Quote
ajtroma Posted August 22, 2013 Report Posted August 22, 2013 Lawler asks Lance if he'd ever heard of Nirvana. Lance's reaction of "well, yeah" in a complete "duh, Jerry" tone was terrific. Corey Maclin would have just grinned, chuckled and said of course not. Quote
Kevin Ridge Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 Was Corey Maclin gone from USWA? Lawler talks about this extremely crappy wrestling organization making challenges towards him. Jerry mentions USWA has been doing brawling for a long time. We watch a ECW video to Nirvana that Lawler sets up beforehand. Dreamer will be on USWA TV. Quote
soup23 Posted November 8, 2013 Report Posted November 8, 2013 I liked Russell getting in on the action of digging into ECW. Trying to be cutting edge and having a video of Nirvana in 1997 is pretty ironic. Lawler really feels like a heel here to me even though I know he is a face in Memphis. Quote
PeteF3 Posted September 30, 2015 Report Posted September 30, 2015 Yeah, sadly Lawler and Lance are starting to feel and sound really out-of-touch here--Dreamer's name being dropped draws a noticeable pop from the studio crowd, too. This is an interesting addition to the Lawler-ECW feud with Lawler taking a different tone than what he was doing in the WWF, but I don't think this is going to do much for the USWA. Lawler also takes time to gloat about ECW's role model taking a shotgun to his head--stay classy, Jerry. Quote
