Loss
Last few minutes. Vince on commentary says you aren't likely to see Bret vs Shawn ever again. Pretty good action between these two. Shawn ends up tapping to the ankle lock just like Bret did the week before. Rude runs in and hits Shamrock with the briefcase and the match is thrown out. HHH does a pedigree on the briefcase to close out the show. Interesting that there was no Bret/Shawn confrontation.
Kevin Ridge
Yeah, no Bret on the go home show for Survivor Series for one of the biggest matches of the year.
soup23
Bret really feels absent here. At least HBK did tap out like Bret did the week before showing some parity. Rude and DX beat up Shamrock and Vince has to try to relate it to Survivor Series in the hard sell.
PeteF3
This isn't bad but it's a step or six behind the Shamrock/Bret match the previous week, which I think is telling on several levels. Shamrock has been and would continue to be a useful member of the roster for the rest of his stint, but after being the hottest free agent in wrestling worldwide in February, from a presentation and style standpoint the WWF has turned him into just another wrestler. I agree with the Between the Sheets discussion from a week or so ago--Shamrock may have been penny-wise and pound-foolish by not doing the Dome main events with Hashimoto, which would have been big money and better for his personal "brand." Another end of an era here: I believe this is the last show that Vince McMahon did as a regular announcer.
Exposer
Solid match with Shawn having to carry the load. Shawn audibly calls spots in this a few times & Shamrock looks lost. I think it's mostly Shawn's style though because the Bret match the week before is better. Bret simply has an easier template for a good match with inexperienced & lesser workers than Shawn does. They protect Shamrock here as he actually makes Shawn tap, but the ref is distracted by DX. Rude nails Shamrock with his briefcase & HHH pedigress him on it to close the show. It's weird they didn't do a Bret-Shawn confrontation as the go-home segment. The Shawn-Shamrock feud is set for next month nontheless.
